Yeah, I quite often search things. Especially topics I want to bring up, but are way past their best-by. Quite often the conversation has already taken place so I just find the thread, read it, and move on.

The only time I visit old threads is when they get necro'd by someone else (very annoying), or when I'm following an old "User was banned for" link, to see what they were banned for (though unfortunately, quite a lot of the time, these banned links give 403 or 404 errors, which is also very annoying).
Same here.

Except I sometimes search for threads if I think of a discussion topic and want to see if something similar already exists.

(That doesn't happen too often because I seem to have some weird fear of making topics, though.)

Nope, especially now that Katamaru's (or whatever the fuck his name was) best JRPG ever thread is gone from the internet, so I can't reread it anymore. @Hazy992 knows what I mean.

I guess if there's a good one I wanna go back to, but not really.

Yeah I do just to see the people I used to fight with who are now banned.

This.

Also I enjoy checking out how I used to type before 2013. It's gotten to the point where I can tell if I was posting drunk or sober at the time by only reading the first five words of my post.

No, not unless they are a necro, and even then it's sometimes. Also, I should point out that I very rarely get "tricked" by necros, when I do, it's only for a few posts - it is very easy to tell if the thread is new or not.
Indeed it is easy to tell, all the posts have these 'date' things attached to them :p
Well, I don't usually look at the date of a post before reading it, and I doubt many other people do it either. Reason is that most time it's redundant information - I read topics on the first page of each forum, so they would be from generally the last few days or so. Even then, I don't visit the forums every few days, but enough times to catch most threads while they still have 1 page of discussion. So when I visit them, I'll see posts that are dated from today or yesterday, and are within few minutes to about an hour from each other. Not terribly exciting, and thus not really worth reading every time I open any thread.

Yes, and yes. There is some gold in older threads that newer threads sometimes miss. Other times, the newer threads just make it better. =P

Usually I do because it's about an old topic that I'm just getting to. I just rented the first Splinter Cell so I just wondered what other people thought about the series, sort of like that.
Or because someone said something that I need to steal to make an argument more sound. Yeah, I'm hiding behind someone else's words but hey, this is the internet, no one's accountable for anything here.

Yeah, I archive threads daily and read it in a couple of months.

The threads that catch my attention are the ones with great discussion and lists of games that interest me.

I should since so new to the escapist, but generally no. It depends on the topic and if its popular. I generally just go by the front page since that's easy to view on my mobile phone.
