Over my first few weeks here at the Escapist, I have relised that many people don't like sports games. Do you guys really hate them?

I would rather actually play the sport than play a video game OR watch other people play it.

Used to, then I just got sick of hating things for no real reason, tried em. There not too bad. People spend so much energy expressing what they hate. Reall sad actually.

I don't have a problem with them, per se. But I don't pay any attention to actual sports, either, so a lot titles drop straight off my radar.

You see that? That phrase, right there?

That just made you better than some other people on this site, in my opinion.

The only sports game I play is my NHL series so no I do not hate them, I like playing hockey both in real life and gaming.

Sport games are fun. However, the fact that EA releases more or less the same game every year and people buy it, that I do not understand.

I guess it's fun to have the latest names, but it scares me people don't realize they are basically buying the game they already had.

But what do I care, it's their money. If they so want to buy it, then be my guest.

This is an odd topic for me. I hate sports games (aside from racing) on my Xbox 360 yet when it comes to the PS3 I'll play NBA, NHL, etc. I don't know why.

Depends on the sport (if im interested in it) and also depends how easy it is to get into.

Nothing beats the old NBA jam.. was playing NBA 2K9 at a friends not long ago and I was struggling to do anything, there are that many extra controls and everything just for the simulation push.

This. Although Scuba Diving wouldn't be a particularly exciting game anyway.

I know, I can play madden (A to hike the ball+ coresponding icon to pass it) Whatever nba game I was playing had multiple shoot buttons+joystick did something along the lines of shooting, passing was an exercise in random directions and speed. I never did figure out how to dunk the ball...
A=run faster
X=fancy moves
B=pass/switch players
Y=shoot/jump on D
Thats all I want in a game... Really I rememebr NBA live for sega genesis
A turbo B pass and C shoots. Simple fun and semi realistic.
I hate sports games that require a degree in sports management to play.

Most of them, because they keep remaking the same game every year.
They update rosters improve controls, and other such things, the only thing that makes it differ from any other "sequel" in a sense, is that there is no plot, but the same concept applies. New features, upgraded graphics, fixed bugs....

It really just depends on the game.
I really do not like any of the Madden football games, but NFL Blitz for the 64 was great fun. I really don't like Forza 2, but I love Burnout. I guess you could say that I enjoy arcadey sports games more than simulators.

I hate football games. Just what's the point? I like biking and car racing games though, if that counts as sport. But other than that, just no.

Easily done with a patch. Remember, you don't have to pay for a patch.

In general I don't like them, particularly the ones which attempt to be realistic, but for some reason I enjoy the Mario Sports franchises and Wii sports; its probably something to do with my aversion to real sports. People seem amazed by games' ability to replicate real life sports personalities but when you don't know who any of them are it lacks the same appeal. Besides, I'm genuinely rubbish at them.

I absolutely hate sports games. Why play sports in a video game when I can go outside and play an actual sport

You can't just upgrade graphics and controls with patches, sometimes a new game actually has to be made
