Yeah I rent games and if you have loads of free time to play games you'd be insane not to rent.

I would rent, if there was such a system in Hungary, but sadly, there is not. I wonder how long will it take for them consider renting games as viable market opportunity and change those ridicoulus laws (currently, it is illegal to rent or lease software here).

Renting is the best way to find out if a game is actually worth buying or not. If I can beat a $9.00 rental in three days, it just makes no finacial sense why I would've bothered buying it new for $60+ based on a review, or the preception that I might like it.
Renting games gives you more opertunity to play all the games you want, and try out some of the other 'if-y' titles with very little risk. If you end up liking a rental, and it hasn't been betten at the end of the period, purchasing it would be a good call. Or renting it again and finishing it for $42 cheaper than buying it.
Renting games can get you into a series, such as the Devil May Cry series, or it can illuminate what ganre you may actually be into, like FPS or RTS or even NFS Undergound kind of stuff.
In my opinion, I never buy a game unless I know for a fact I'm going to love it and replay it more than twice. Perhaps by renting the game and then buying it actually causes me to lose money in the long run, however, the ratio of games bought after renting to games never played is quite low, which means I've been doing some risk-free research into finding a game that I can truely enjoy instead of relying on fan-boy testimonials or biased game reviews. It also eliminates the need to actually try and like the game based on the fact that I blew $60+ on a title. There is no need to justify liking a rental, unless it actually is enjoyable. If you like the rental, more often than not, its worth buying and you'll be happier with the replay value.

Nope, never rented a game (or a movie for that matter). I buy everything I want. I used to pirate a little bit but mostly to get a preview of a game I would buy later anyway. Nowadays, I don't do that either, since I'm all PS3.

I've never rented and probably never will, though the idea's not a bad one. It's just that the only place near to where I live that used to rent games went out of bussiness ages ago. Instead, I'll occassionally borrow a friend's copy of a game I'm unsure about to see if I like it.

I would, were it not nigh-on impossible what with Blockbuster moving into the video-game sales business and then moving out of business altogether, and the fact that I keep forgetting to try lovefilm.com.

Previously I have rented several games, most of which I'm glad were rent-only.

You forgot the option: No, I can't rent games because it's no longer allowed in my country. If a want to play a game I have to buy it. None of my friends play games and my brother only plays FPS'.

If I could've rented games I wouldn't have had to buy crap like Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Mirror's Edge etc.

Stopped renting a few years ago, it just got pointless. Second hand games kept getting cheaper and rental prices kept going up. Do the math.

Plus Gamestop is closer to my house than xtravision and i'm lazy.

currently no, I just buy the games usually...
and occasionally borrow some from friends if it's not a game I want to keep (trying to do this more often)
I may start renting a few sometimes, but only if I can't get it for very cheap or borrow it from a friend

No, I don't.
I don't even know if that is possible here in Norway, I have not heard of it anyway.
But I doubt I would rent either way...

Besides, I play mostly WoW anyway. That and L4D2:)

I purchase my games (PS3) because I like to own them. Besides to rent is sometimes a bad thing because then you have to return the game and at some point you want to replay the game. Yet when I buy the game I take my time to play through five hours or so and if its good then I keep it, but if not then i just go back to GameStop and get my money back. All except Starwars the Force Unleashed pleased me as much to keep it.

Gamefly's reputation is quite high. What's the UK equivalent?I've googled, found some sites but don't trust them yet. I've always thought about renting, but Blockbusters is too expensive.

I buy 90% of my games second hand and only when they're £15 (28USD) or under, I got Fallout 3 for £8, Metal Gear 4 for £14, LBP for £10 =). Just look everywhere, very rarely buy in shops, such a rip off, rarely they have a good deal. I saw fallout 3 yesterday for £11 and that was on a special offer rofl, down from £18. I got my Fallout 3 in the summer, off ebay.

I rent every now and then when I feel like I want a new game to play to keep me occupied as I take a break from the games I own. If I get bored playing something like Starcraft or MW2 I can just go out and rent something random, like Skate 2 and have fun with that for a week until I can go back to the favorites I have been playing.

There is actually no shop round my Norwich area to rent from. (No Blockbuster or anything. Unless you count four year old games at the library) I'd imagine renting is like a bit of taboo now for achievement/trophy hunters; "Well this game sucks. No wait, where's that achievement from?! It's stuck on my profile FOREVER!!!"

Never. It's just like piracy to developers and creators. Really - there's no difference.
