I am one of many people who normally have sleeping problems from time to time. I'm a sufferer of minor insomnia, this is where a person has trouble sleeping in general. Me for example; It takes me an average of around 2 hours to drop out to sleep most nights. I also cannot sleep during the day, and I am constantly tired throughout the day (even after a full nights sleep).

I have heard that 1 in 10 people in Britain have sleep related problems. Most are normally down to stress, (like mine for example). However, I don't know how common it is across the world.

So my question is, do any of you suffer from sleeping problems? Also, What do you think caused it? Lastly, have you tried any techniques/ therepies to help you?

[[edit, me personally, I am a very active person who goes hiking every few days, i am a bit of a gamer but not an overall big fan. Lastly, I am a fairly healthy eater, i stay away from all fast food places like *eww* McDonalds... ]]

Most people will have it cos they spend a lot of time on the computer and not much time doing physical activity. Playing the computeer up to an hour before you wanna go to sleep is a bad move, it excites and stimulates the brain meaning it takes longer to wind down.

Couple that with the fact that if the body has not released its stored energy it will also be difficult to wind down.

Poor diet and stress do aggravate it of course.

No, I sleep great.

I can fall asleep when I want whenever I want.
Lucid Dreaming helped.

I have sleeping problems. The problem being that I am required to sleep, or I will die.

In all seriousness, no, I sleep just fine--normally that is.

I can't sleep unless I've been up for at least 16 hours.

Thats fine on most days (I get up at 5am for swimming every morning) but on Sundays when I don't swim I can't get to sleep till around 12 or 1. Really isn't good to get 4 hours of sleep before I get up on a monday morning for swimming.

Unfortunately yes, I have insomnia as well, not bad, but bad enough where it's annoying. And if I'm stressed or worried about something then I will never get to sleep anytime soon.

As far as I know, I got it from my mom, and I just worry about shit that I honestly don't need to be worrying about that late at night. Other than that, it might have to do with the fact that most of job requires me to pull late nights and with the possibility of early mornings, so I guess decent amount of sleep is out of the question.

I haven't tried anything to help me other than reading and playing games, both of which have back fired on me if the book/game is really good and sucking me in.

Takes me, on average, 2 hours to go to sleep. When I wake up, I often wake up enraged, screaming and swinging if anyone is nearby. I have, on occasion, suffered from walking nightmares.

Its just the way I'm wired. Plus PTSD.

There are very few if any sleep problems if you exercise, eat right, have a reasonable day schedule, live healthy otherwise and have at least some self-discipline.

So obviously I have some.

Don't eat in the few hours before sleeping (take a small snack if the hunger bothers you, but as early as possible, don't drink too much before sleeping, exercise (can't be pronounced enough), have sleep routines (brush teeth, read a book)...

Do everything you can do to help tomorrow be easier: set clothes near your bed that you're going to wear, write a note if you have to remember to do something you might forget, put all your stuff that you're going to take with you in the same place; you won't forget anything.

Don't do anything else in bed than eat and have sex. Do not watch TV/monitor from bed. In fact, do not have them in the same room if possible.

It boils down to eating right, having a day/sleep schedule and exercising. But I've got tons of these.

I've been having trouble sleeping since the day I was born. I'm going to get tested for insomnia sometime in march to pretty much confirm my suspicions. I usually get about 4 hours sleep, when I go to bed at 10 (this is regardless of what I am doing before bed, it's always difficult sleeping). I have some sleeping drugs but they don't do as much as I would like and I'm a bit worried about getting stronger stuff.

It takes me a while to get to sleep most nights, like half an hour to an hour, sometimes longer. So if that counts then yep.

I've had sleeping problems since I was a kid. Acute insomnia that varies on severeness, though lately I've not had that as much, but I sometimes get only 2 or 3 hours of sleep, have vivid horrifying nightmares (which sometimes culminate in sleep paralysis) or just cannot get comfortable and rest.

Well I don't really have sleep problems. I have however woken up at around 3 every night for the past 4 night and not been able to sleep for almost an hour after that. Shit sucks, but I can live with it.

I barely sleep. I struggle to get to sleep, wake up every hour or 2 and then can't get back to sleep at either 4:47 AM or 6:34AM.

I reckon it's something on my mind... But due to the rather strange way it works (I use the term works very loosely) I cannot figure out what... I'm guessing it may be girl related.

I get what you mean, my body clock is weird in that way, i can wake up exactly on the hour like 4.00am or 5.00am without an alarm.

I suffer from Non 24-Hour Sleep Wake Disorder Syndrome. It basically means that my body thinks there are more than 24 hours in the day. I started treating it about a year and a half ago and it has improved my life immensely. I used to sleep at completely random hours (I'd do things like go to school with an hour of sleep or no sleep at all, come home and sleep for 15 hours) which made it very hard for me to function. It's been that way since I can remember and before I was diagnosed people treated me horribly about it. Everyone, including my close friends, would get mad and tell me that I just wasn't trying hard enough to sleep and that it was all the video games' fault for keeping me awake. Until I had the documents to prove it no one had bothered to listen to me or even try to understand that some people are just incapable of going to sleep at the same time every day. At the moment my sleep is fairly regular thanks to medication but I still find it hard to fall asleep sometimes (right now for instance).

I have dreadful sleep "patterns"... well they are not even patterns. I will be awake for more than 24 hours and if I try to sleep without that length of time awake I will just lie there awake. It is dreadful.

Even when I do sleep I only manage it in 3 hour gaps.

I have currently been awake for 22 hours and am not tired yet (22:45 my local time).

I also suffer from bi poplar and have anxiety in general so its not like this is my only problem :)
