I personally don't. If I hear about a sequel to a movie, game or book I like than I look at a few reviews before buying it to make sure I don't waste my money. I don't just buy it because it's prequel is good.

Edit: Whoops that was a rather imbecilic mistake I made in my typing. Better start brushing up on my English.

Yep.

It's very rare that a sequel lets me down.

There are the odd few that I didn't like but on the whole I don't usually have a problem with them.

What I have a problem with are remakes and reboots. Especially when they remake films I loved as a child and completely fuck them up (yes Conan, i'm looking at you ... and you Nightmare on Elm Street).

I do trust sequels but I've had my share of bad sequels as well.
Good: Fallout new vegas, assassins creed 2
Bad: Lost Planet 2, condemned 2

Sequel's what? Come to think of it, I don't even know this Sequel.

OT: Depends on the developer. I know Mass Effect 3 will be good, same with Skyrim, because the developers have proven they can handle a series. Cue the ME2 haters.

You're a hilarious man.

And yeah, I do. There isn't any inherent reason not to.

Trust? Nah. I don't "trust" any form of media to be any good. I research them and make a decision based on my findings.

Movie squeals? Not really. Game squeals? More than often. I don't really mind. I don't really like plot sequel unless it was planned but I can ignore that if the game play is good. The best sequels I like are usually where they have kept all the game-play mechanics but have added a different story. For example the Men of War series is coming out with MoW:Vietnam soon and there's Bioshock Infinite coming out as well. CoD I don't really mind as I don't view it as a game more as a hypnotic explosion-athon. As for trusting them, yes I would say I trust them more then new IP. I can say I have played previous Men of War's so I am sure I'll enjoy this one. But that is also me trusting the developer. I have played previous CoD's and they were also explosion-athons and so if I feel like some mindless button holding then I would go buy the new CoD game. It is not really a trust of sequels for me as a trust of developers to not change the game-play or make good stories.

Godfather: Part II
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers/Return of the King
Aliens
Harry Potter (excluding Half Blood Prince)
Iron Man 2
The Dark Knight
The Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi
Bourne Supremacy/Bourne Ultimatum
Kill Bill v.2
X-Men: First Class (Sequel by release date)
Last Crusade/Temple of Doom

Just to name a few.

Yea, for the most part I consider it good news if a film I enjoyed has a sequel announced. Granted, sometimes filmmakers get it wrong and lose the feel of the original completely, futzing up their sequels (Troy Duffy...), but generally I enjoy sequels.

Movies: That entirely depends but more often than not the sequel of a movie is subpar to the 1st one. Not that they're bad as such, but rarely as good as the 1st one.

Games: Sequels in game can swing both ways. Some developers take the criticism of the 1st game and improve the follow-up games while others fuck up entirely on their sequels and make a massive abomination.

Books: I prefer reading fantasy and those usually come in a multi-book format such as a trilogy or bigger and thus to get the entire story, you're bound to get the entire series. Usually a bookwriter keeps the same level of quality throughout a single series.

That's the opposite approach than I think should be taken, in most situations at least. If it's just a cash grab, maybe double-check. But the thing about sequels is that it should be more of what you loved in the first one, with some extra stuff and of course a new story. So there is no question as to whether it will be your type of thing, only whether they actually did a good job making it. That's a heck of a smaller risk than if you're buying a brand new game or seeing a brand new movie. If there's good reason for the sequel to be made, and it's being made because the creators have more vision for the franchise rather than because it would make more money, there is no reason to doubt it.

Most developers make good sequels, but as for the series they churn out once a year, I've lost faith in those (if you know who I mean); they let me down in 2009 and I haven't been able to trust them since.

As for movies and such, more of them are disappointments;
The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions
Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 (can't be arsed to look up what they are called)
Underworld Evolution
Jurassic Park 3 (1st one was good, 2nd was enjoyable enough... but the 3rd is just...)

Still, there are some sequels I really enjoyed;
Star Wars Original Trilogy
The Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum
Actually that's about it...

It's been my experience that more often than not the second entry in most series is better or just as good as the first. There are of course shit ones, immediately coming to mind is Star Wars: Force Unleashed 2. That is literally only the game I have ever finished and thought to myself "That was pretty shitty". I could go into a rant about everything wrong with it, but suffice it be said that I felt quite cheated out of my $60. (seriously, that game was just shit)

Largely I think sequels are great. But I have trusted Lionhead, and they let me down. Though I'll keep buying their games anyway, because they're awesome. But also terrible. It's tearing me apart.
Also I thought Mass Effect 2 was weak.... don't hate me. And Dragon Age 2's art style I find horrific.

It depends on the medium. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean and Shrek were amazing and original movies that worked beautifully on their own. They had no good reason to make sequels, but they did for the sake of cash rather than continue to make new and innovative IPs. Yes, butthurt, especially over Shrek 2 and onward (the Pirates movies were at least tolerable). Movie sequels are usually like that, especially when the first film was supposed to be a standalone.

In terms of games, I think that most sequels are decent. They rarely match up to the original and suffer through horrific cutbacks (see: Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2), but I rarely don't enjoy the sequels to a game that I enjoyed originally. Modding helps with that.

First of all, it should be "sequels," not "Sequel's." Secondly, if the first one was good I trust the sequel. Except for the Disney ones.
