I am originally english but I am currently living in Sweden and the other day, I noticed on the BBC homepage that England were playing against Australia. I have never even been a little bit interested in cricket, but I just felt like checking to see if England were winning at least. Anyway, I pressed this link and I was forwarded to a side with a load of jargon. Good god I didn't understand a thing, and I definitely didn't know who was winning. There were like three different scores and loads of sets and stuff. So I never found out if England were winning, but I found out that I know absolutely nothing about this sport that is quite popular in my own country. I mean, I play football and tennis, occasionally watch rugby or ice-hockey as well so I am definitely not a stranger to sports - but I was unable to interpret the score in a cricket match. So, how many of you "get" cricket?

I understand all the normal rules, and I love to play, but by God is it boring to watch.

Cricket? No one understands cricket. You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket.

(yes, I'm aware exactly how old this reference is)

I understand the basics, it's the fielding positions that always get me. Silly point? Long on? Mid off? Square Leg? It's like fricking code.

I watch it, I try to understand it, and it always looks like they're playing Calvinball. (then again, my Canuck wife feels the same way about American football and baseball, but basketball she understands.)

I'm aware that cricket bats make good melee weapons in case of a zombie invasion, but otherwise I have no idea. And there's something about a bowler.

I understand the ancient ways of Cricket and happen to be a talented young batsman.

I do understand how many people may struggle with it though, it's not the simplest game to understand (that would be bowling).

I watched it once and basically just saw one indian guy throw a ball at another indian guy with a bat who was stood in front of a few sticks.. Then everyone started running places.. I think someone caught the ball.. Then there seemed to be a 15-minute intermission so i switched channels..

I get the basic rules and I enjoy watching it sometimes, with the right people.

I wouldn't call myself a fan or anything though.

I understand it perfectly, I always know what's going on as my dad raised me on the grand aussie tradition of watching cricket (and football) with your dad and having your first beer when 10 years old. I love to play it and love watching, I often spend 5 days of my life watching a Test. Cricket is the sport of Gods.

You mean those little annoying insects that make noises outside my bedroom window?
THEY HAVE TEAMS OF THOSE THINGS!?!?!
no?

As you can tell, I know nothing about cricket. I am American, and so we don't play over here.

I have absolutely no understanding of the rules, and from what I understand, not many of the people who play understand it either as the rulebook to it is roughly as thick as a stack of Bibles. Written in Greek.

Now while I'm not a huge sporting fan, I just can't grasp the concept of a game where a single match could take up to three or four days to play. I do hear that Cricket is a lovely sleeping aid though, and the bat would be a nice thing to have around in case the Zombie Apocalypse came about.

I understand pretty much all of cricket but I really hate watching it. It is second only in boringness and complexity to baseball in my opinion.
