auto aim is for newbs, noobs and casual gamers
Or those of us not blessed with HD. I do not use auto aim. However, if a game has an aim assist, because I only have a 17" SD monitor and a 27" SD TV then it really helps. When playing COD or Mass Effect, half the time, I can't see the fockers. So, aim assist helps me (in single player, people who use it in multiplayer are cheating scumbuckets) to find the guys I have trouble seeing.

Also, if you use VATS, then the answer is automatically "Yes" I know it doesn't hit 100% of the time, but what else do you call it?

On games like RDR , yes because hitting someone while me and him both are riding like crazy on a wagon is hard.
On FPS games , screws up the aiming and i might shoot an exploding barrel a billion miles away instead of that guy 2 meters from me.
I have to concur with this statement.

In Red Dead Redemption it sets you up to know where it is, which helps whenever a damned Cougar is near by... freaking ninja cats... they haunt my nightmares. Anywho! You can still adjust it ahead if you're aiming for a bird, it's definitely the best Auto Aim I've ever seen as it gives you freedom and a helping hand. You even have to be looking in the general direction for it, which reduces its hindrance considerably. Although the one time I accidentally shot a poor guy that was just playing Five Finger Fillet, but that's okay because I got a good laugh out of it.

And concerning FPS is well enough said for me. Never touch the stuff in that genre.

I don't use it, generally it mucks up my aim more than it helps. Especially in things like air combat where you need to lead your target.

No, I like to play games for a test of skill. I didn't even know you could use auto-aim on GTA until I noticed my cousin doing it.

Hell why stop at auto aim? Why not auto reload or auto crouch or auto spawn camp?

no way auto aim takes the fun and complication out of games

but some games force you to use auto aim and that sucks

As a proud PC-Gamer: NEVAAAAR, what am i, a girl? (Sorry bout that, just a joke... i've met a lot of girls shooting better than me).

Back to topic: I can understand auto-aiming with a console-controller in some games. But with perfect mouse or trackball it just is not needed and the games are much more a test for skill and reaction then. I like it better.

I've found that it's more a hindrance than helper, even the few times I've played console shooters. People who use it deserve to (and generally do) get steamrolled by more adept players.

on PC, no, it's bad enough in any Doom source port with free aim when you fire a rocket at someone or to lead it onto someone and it fires it where they are and makes you completely miss them which shortly results in you getting a Super Shotgun blast to the face

on consoles, yes if it only pulls my aim towards someone, no if it drags my view onto someone who isn't on the screen when I'm already fighting someone else

I only use it in games that don't have manual aim or the manual aim is shit. Example: The Godfather. (That would be the first one, I didn't play the second one because the first one was GTA in 1930 with Italians...)

And in games where it is optional, I turn in off because it tends to screw up my aiming and severly messes with my "spray area with bullets" routine.

I don't usually mess with it. If it's on, I usually leave it on. It has helped me occasionally, like picking up someone through a smoke screen that I couldn't see.

Sorry , but where exactly did you disagree?
You fully agreed with me.

Never because I'm awesome and I can aim at the enemy I don't need any cheats to aim.

You can turn it off?

Never knew that.

But to be honest, I neither feel it helps or hinders me in any sort of way. All it is is that my gun seems to nudge me a little in the direction of an enemy. As if I hadn't figured out that you had to actually point your gun at someone to kill them.

Uhm. He didn't disagree. Unless someone changed the definition of concur without telling me, he said he agreed with you.

Yeah I agree!

I also wish there was an "auto kill everything" button that I didn't have to press, that would be nice.
