Nope. A lot of my friends like to watch it, but I never found the appeal in it.

I do indeed WATCH anime but I do not BUY anime. UNLESS in fact, Miyozaki Films count.
Thanks for reminding me. I went on a Miyazaki movie binge the past summer, and it was awesome.

I love anime, i dislike the really long ones though. Like bleach, one piece, and naruto. The fact that it has over 150 episodes makes it feel like an elitist club. And hey get away from the main issues. I thoroughly enjoyed death note, darker than black, and now I'm watching code grass and it's awesome
lol, "Code Grass." Welcome to the Escapist. While you're here, you might want to drop by the Anime Fan Club. Spell check and capitalization is your friend, don't be a jerk, and you'll get along just fine. Enjoy your stay.

Just now I've decided to start watchin Highschool of the Dead, it's hilariously bad and awesome at the same time. :p

I watch it, BUT I do other things besides that. I have a good balance between anime/manga and my life in general. Just so I don't get singled out to be called Otaku

I believe the people you are thinking of are "weeabos". Even the fans hate weeabos. Don't let someone telling you they're a fan of anime make you think they are of the "Japan is superior" kind.

[sub]Yeah, I suspect you know this already. I just need to make sure...[/sub]
May I present to you, Adventures of the Weeaboo!

I've been watching anime for about a year and a half now. I can safely say I quite like it.

I haven't watched Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, or anything like that, and don't plan to either.

Heh. I'm making myself instant ramen as I'm reading that comic...

I think it's mostly dumb, over rated, and very annoying how much people obsess over it.

Do I think it's all dumb? No; there are a few that I've liked and if a friend thinks I should give a certain anime a try then I will. As dumb as I tend to find it, I don't totally oppose it.

Yes. I love anime. I've been watching it a little less lately because of school, but I still absolutely love it.

...But I hate weaboos. Well, most weaboos.

When I start a series, and its a really good series, I'll stay up till 3am when I have to wake up the next day at 9.
I love anime so much.

A good chunk of anime is really poorly made and/or crap, yet still popular, and I'll never understand why.
Oh well. Different people, different tastes I guess.
I just hate it when people assume I like Naruto and Inyuasha when I say "I like anime", because those are the only ones they know about >.>

While most people watch TV for a couple hours a day, or just watch a certain show a few times a week, my 'variant' is anime that I watch whenever I feel like it.

My god your outdated Monster is "recent"?... bebop, GITS, Naruto? all of these are old as time itself, you should go get Durarara, Bakemonogatari, Requiem for the Phamton, some really RECENT movies like Summer Wars, The Girl who Leap Trough Time, Eva 2.22, King of Thorn, Unlimited Blade Works, really good stuff, matter of fact is material like these is what keeps me watching anime to these day (well The Girl who leapt trough time is not that recent but still rocks!)
Recent in that it's the latest anime that I've been watching. I wouldn't call it 'outdated' either, the anime is from 2004, the manga mid-90's. And what's wrong with old anyway? I actually prefer the old stuff, that new stuff you name has everything I don't want in an anime, only Summer Wars looks like it appeals to me somewhat. Why would I want to watch that recent stuff?

I have watched a few, I loved Death Note and Code Geass. I seem to go through phases, sometimes I watch a lot of films in my free time, sometimes TV, and sometimes anime.

Some Anime I don't really mind, but there's so much out there that suck so bad that I just can't get into it at all. In fact, because my friends are all so hardcore into Anime and other Japanese culture it's starting to all get really annoying to me. Like to the point that I hate all things related to Japan now.

One of my friends:
- Spends every penny of his paycheque on Anime and mangas
- Only listens to J-Pop
- Watches Japanese game shows when he's not watching Anime
- Refuses to read books that are intended to be read from left to right (mangas are read right to left)
- Is taking a Japanese class in university just so he doesn't have to have subtitles on to understand what's going on
- Repeatedly speaks Japanese to us even though we don't understand the language
- Tries to get me and my other friends into pretty much every Anime

And yeah, it's REALLY annoying.

Yes, I watch the occasional anime... and there's quite a bit of overlap between anime and gaming, at least in the generation of gaming I grew up in... but I too get annoyed with people who love all anime, as though it were a single genre. In my experience, anime is much like Hollywood, only with a different set of formulas and stereotypes. A vast majority of it simply follows the formulas that have been successful in the past, and most of that is forgettable at best. Occasionally someone puts together a brilliant show or movie, though.
For instance, if not for Cowboy Bebop, I probably would have sworn off all episodic anime when I was a teenager.

As if it isn't obvious from my dumb name and avatar, yes, I enjoy the animes. The first anime I ever watched was Sailor Moon when I was like five years old, and I've always been interested in it since. I'm also part of a web site/forum that's essentially the anime version of this one.

I love my anime dearly and have for near 7 years now. In fact I'm going to an anime convention this weekend, I'm just that bad.
Funny story.
I was on a german field trip and the restaurant that we were going to canceled on us. So, we had to figure out what to do instead. Some people were looking for local events on their phones, when someone said that there was an anime convention going on. The teacher asked if we wanted to go. I said, "what the hell", and the rest of the class agreed. So, I got to meet the guy who does the voice for Ed in Full Metal Alchemist and played video games for an hour, so it turned out pretty good.

First anime - Pokemon
Never stopped.

I find them diferent and unique, that's why i watch them, they make me happy, and they make me cry. Things that movies or other stuff can't do to me.

Visual novels i Download and read like 1 hour per day. Umineko was diferent because was the best history eva (like 4 hours a day in my vacations)
Manga is the same.

I buy mangas? Only when i can
I'm a Otaku and a gamer? Yes
Do i love animes and Japan? Yes
I'm a fanatic? No
Will i defend my position and my tastes when i see some1 i know saying anime is for kids? Hell yeah

dear Onia,
the escapist provides a way for people to nerd out on subjects that in the real world they would share with just a couple of close friends..because the world is mostly inhabited by meatheads who would just say animes are gay..u like em so u must be gay too..its sad but true..growing up with pokemon and sailor moon..made me to hate animes and dislike them totally..so for a period i was a part of the rest of the world...a meat head..but some friends of mine told me i should try watching to hellsing..and a loved it..and ever since i became an anime lover..and seen a lot of series like bleach, claymore, elven lied, full metal alchemist, avatar the last airbender etc. some i liked for the storey, others for the action..others for the characters(deathnote)..
one last thing..games and animes are part of the same culture..pop culture..so its very likely that a game addict would enjoy animes..and a lot less likely that he would prefer football(i like basketball ^^)
