I think the warrior can be really good, but too often it just ends up a slow, cumbersome but damage absorbent rock. Which is boring; I prefer a warrior that kills quickly and efficiently while being able to take a bit more damage, not a tank, which I find a dull and arbitrary game mechanic.

If you're playing any class in an RPG and you're only playing as "the warrior" or "the wizard" or "the healer", you're doing it wrong.
Any character is gonna be boring if you just think of them in these defined terms.
Even when you play as a melee fighter, you don't have to be "the warrior". Depending on how you play, you could be a wild berserker, a stallwart defender, a highly dsciplined legionaire, a wandering xia, a noble knight errant, or anyone else who ever held a weapon. Sure, not all of those options are gonna be the optimal gameplay choice in any given RPG, but if you have some imagination and understand the mechanics within the game you can create a lot of unique characters out of any class.

There's Demon's Souls/Dark Souls forum dedicated entirely to how to represent a variety of historical or fictional characters with the character you create in the game. And those games don't even involve any "real" roleplaying.

I'm definitely the warrior class in any game that gives a choice. My main focus is always damage output, and ranged/magic just isn't as satisfying, even if it has the potential to cause more damage.

Like other people here, I prefer to opt in for a Hybrid class. A common oblivion example, as far as I know: A person with skills smilar to a warrior and decked out in daedric, but sneaks around the dark and execute one stroke kills like a rogue.

I've entertained thoughts like this too, as the "warriors" sometimes seems boring/simple. But simplicity is a good thing.

If you're not familiar with the genre (Everyone has to start somewhere tight? New ppl are getting into games all the time), this "class" is a great way to get used to the game, without getting overwhelmed by complexities of the other classes. Also, if you just want to play causally without having to think too much (The gaming equivalent of picking a moive/book that's not too intellectually challenging because you're bored, but also a bit tired).

This was the conclusion I came to anyway when I played Torchlight for the first time. I'd had a long day, and I initially started going to wikis to find out which class was best suited for me. But got tired soon, and when finally faced with the decision, I realized I just wanted to play the game. The warrior allowed me to just beef up defence and damage, and mindlessly click enemies and collect loot. I'd play a different class when I was in the mood.

Options are always good. Even the easy ones.

More times than not, I leave technical or 'magical' aspects of other members of the party or supporting cast. If it's my character, you can bet their main strategy 9/10 times is 'Hit it with enough bullets/my sword.'

Though, I always tend to put priority over armor than arms.

Oh yea. I prefer to have a agile warrior though. Usually in medium armour, but with a large two-handed sword. Not a fan of axes or maces. I love charging into a group of enemies and cleaving several in half with a single swing, parrying, countering and dodging, leaving carnage in my wake.

Depends ont eh game. If its a agme where the warrior just stand there like a moron and his only job is a distraction then HELL NO. But when the warrior is done right i will play them. Think about Fable: TLC for instance. while I could have made my character more focused on magic or archery as equally viable options the fun of running and WREACKING enemies with a giant sword always had huge appeal. Warriors are also generally the more active class in alot of games (not talking mmos) usually having to block, dodge rolle and string combos to be successful amking it feel truly filling.

Funny I used to be really into mages to back when 'Ferentus' was my MMO of choice. But now it just seems weird sittting there watching my little casting bar fill up just to be able to attack.

I can't play as anything but. It's hard wired into my brain to go charging in places, even in games where you're not really supposed to.

In MMO's I tend to prefer Mage roles, and I greatly enjoy stealth and acrobatics-oriented games, but... no, I don't any dislike for the DD or tank Warrior roles either.

Warrior actually ended up becoming my first class in Dragon Age II (Rogue was my favored class in DAO, while Mage bored me in battle), and Soldier was my "canon" Shepard's class in the Mass Effect series.

Depends, if it's an RPG I almost always play as a warrior, but if it's a FPS and a stealth approach is possible, I might go for it instead. I rarely choose mages.

Not usually as my primary class. I like a strong attack, but I'm willing to sacrifice defence/endurance for magic and agility. Recently I've taken a liking to the magic knight style - mixing the physical attack of a warrior with the abilities of a mage. Abilities to boost my defence are good, but I don't tank too often. I find it quite boring.

It really depends. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Most of the time, I like playing the guy that doesn't go in to maul people, but rather assists the guy that does, and it's *my* job to make sure he does *his* job right and doesn't get blown to bits in 10 seconds. In MMOs, I play the healer, in TF2, I play medic often (over 100 hours since my last stat reset, most played class, AND I play heavy medic with one of my friends and shit gets fucked up when we do it), but in L4D, I make a kickass tank. I remember this one time, I was enticing the survivors and keeping my distance since one of them had a molotov. Except one of them made the mistake of saying "Tank is afraid XD" in chat. I then thought "fuck it" and mauled them all. Yeah, I got set on fire, but I made up for it by smashing them all into the ground. Hehehehe... So yeah, I like playing the "warrior" in L4D, but most of the time, I like playing the important support role, letting others put their own asses on the line, but I still provide an invaluable service.

Pretty much all the time. Gimme a big two hander any day! Ideally a dwarf with red hair n a beard, not sure why...

Do like a bit of sneaky stabby too though.

During my Guild War days I found myself charging into the middle of fights with no concern to my health and I find myself repeating that in Castle Crashers recently.

I can't explain it but I've never been into the whole MP-dependant classes in role playing games. A lot of my friends are more adept at doing that so I end up doing the "White Knight" of protecting them with physical melee skills

Warriors are usually badly designed with few other options than hitting people with big stuff mounted on sticks, often only autohitting people with big stuff mounted on sticks. Well-designed warrior classes are helluva fun, as proven by games like Phantasy Star Online and Demon's Souls.

Nothing beats the sound of hearing your enemies skull crack between the wall and my two-handed hammer.
Or that sound when you fully hit their plate armour, yet you know that at least 2 ribs are broken and a lung has collapsed.

When I first get a new game I tend to play the warrior class. Generally they are the easiest to play and allow me a chance to get to grips with the game mechanics before I re-roll and play a new class.

I do not think that the warrior is just a 2 meter x 2 meter juggernaut (actually, I LOVE that word)who just hits people.
I see "being a warrior" as a path of discipline and living with your weapon. It is as important as you are.

Being that juggernaut requires tenacity, hard training and an iron will.
