They could introduce him for like 5 minutes and then have Joker beat him to death with a crowbar?

Of course Batman needs Robin!

I mean, do you expect Batman to pedal his OWN bicycle?

Movie Bob said something during his review of The Losers that made me cringe: he actually proposed that the current Batman movie series should have Robin.
Seeing as the new Batman films are almost [sub]why so[/sub] 'serious' adding Robin would be like adding lead to a perfectly working rubber dingy

Christan Bale and Christopher Nolan both REFUSE to participate in the Batman movies if Robin comes in. So it a mute point.
That's a really stupid reason to refuse to be in a sequel. That said, I could care less. If done RIGHT Robin could be a good addition. Myself though would rather see Batgirl.

Unless everyone wants to say a homosexual love scene in which Batman takes advantage of Robin, then they ought to leave him out of it.

Actually, that could be quite hilarious...

My god! That's...the least effective set of poll options I've ever seen! Monocle pop!

OT: It would be very, very difficult to pull it off. Batman would need to spend half the movie brooding about how alone he is before him taking on a ward would seem remotely sensible. And the circumstances of Dick Grayson's recruitment would have to be very dark and tragic and somehow remind Bruce of himself. And then there would need to be at least two training montages and a lot of clever banter between the two of them before I would accept Robin fighting anything.

It could work...maybe. Precariously. As long as he shouts at a tearful and terrified Robin, "I'm the goddamn Batman!", I will forgive anything.

Remember, this is the actor who flipped a method-acting shit on the set of Terminator Salvation, a highbrow film if ever there was one. Bale does not strike me as a man who picks his battles.

Batman is anything but crazy, to be honest.

But hey, why can't Robin work?
He doesn't have to be the goofy boy wonder, look at how Batman has evolved across the ages.
Eggzactly! I mean have you seen any of those old Batman episodes? Both Batman and Robin were really goofy and it wasn't dark at all, mercilessly playing with words and dealing with criminals like The Film Freak (EDIT:comic only, ironically) and Egghead.
If a man in a bat costume can be taken seriously then I'm sure Robin can too.
I'll be interesting to see what they can do about that face mask.

Movie Bob said something during his review of The Losers that made me cringe: he actually proposed that the current Batman movie series should have Robin. I don't think that Batman needs Robin. Robin makes him less dark and brooding. Robin makes Batman family friendly. Batman is crazy, determined, and kinda sadistic. Robin waters him down, makes him less awesome. Do you want Batman to have Robin? Would you still watch the current Batman movies if they introduced Robin? No flaming, no trolling, just polite debate. Go.

I'm sure those two would refuse if old Batman came in too.

Batman as a lone wolf (Except Alfred, who is the very esscence of awesome) > Batman and Robin.
That's it, Robin will ruin the Batman movies.

If they put Robin in the next movie I'm not going to see it, when they added Robin tot he old films they started to suck. But then again I probably wont see the next one anyway because you can't top the Joker as a villain.

fuck, I'm the only one who voted batgirl... at the time I voted.

No, Batman needs bat-girl because everyone is sex crazed nowadays, if batman has a dog as his new sidekick people will ask "are they fucking?" (not really, but you know they would with Robin) so it might as well be an adult female human as a sidekick for now and get rid of the awkwardness.
She's like 14 and there's implications that they fucked in Batman Beyond! Batman does not need the Commissioner Gordon's jailbait running around!
Don't worry, the Joker will fix that!

Oh wait, no more Joker... shit. Who's going to paralyze her?
I really doubt that they would write off the Joker from Nolan's series just because Heath Ledger kicked the bucket. Don't get me wrong, it was a standout performance, but the character is just too instrumental in the Batman storyline (i.e. death of Jason Todd; crippling of Barbara Gordon).

Also, if you pay attention in The Dark Knight, Barbara Gordon is like 12 years old, tops. So there's no chance of there being a Barbara-Batgirl for some time at least. Also, Batgirl didn't come into the picture until after Robin did, so he'll inevitably come first (if at all).

OP: While I agree with Nolan's standpoint on his films (that this is a young Batman, and hence there will be no sidekicks in the foreseeable future), if he must at another member to his team, I reckon it should be simply more of a focus on Alfred's involvement in his Bat-antics; have him sat in the Batcave at a computer monitor during Batman's missions feeding him intel or some such. Give him a role similar to Oracle, though of course not actually Oracle.

(Off-topic: I reckon that the next Batman film should involve Talia al'Ghul, thoughts?)

I think that Robin is better than Batman actually. Maybe it's because I just really hate Batman. But a Robin movie wouldn't be that bad, would it?

I'm going to be the only one who probably throws out his vote in favour of Robin. Robin adds something that Batman is missing; the human element. Robin, while painfully innocent and naiive, makes an excellent contrast to Batman. Where Batman's costume is dark, angular, and menacing, Robin's costume is bright, vibrant, and improvised. Whereas Batman lived his childhood scarred by the loss of his parents, Robin grew up in a happy family, bonding by literally putting his life in his family's hands as an acrobat. Robin plays an excellent foil to Batman, both a redeeming quality and a crippling weakness.

Robin, as seen by many, is nothing but a hindrance; he's ass in a fight, he's useless as a detective, and he often is the bait for many a Bat-trap. Not only that, but now Bruce Wayne's bank account has to feed another mouth, clothe another body, and equip another utility belt (not to mention how many vehicles and devices he has to de-Bat so Robin can handle them). Why, in the name of God would Bruce Wayne keep someone so useless around. Simple, in Robin he sees something he longs to be. He sees the childhood that Robin had, and longs to know that warmth. He sees Robin like a brother and a son, and so that strong emotional attachment gives Batman more of a human quality (arguably more than any other character besides Alfred). Batman could always leave Robin in the clutches of the Joker, abandoning him to a cruel (if not inventive) death, accompanied by cackling laughter. However, he won't, because in Robin he sees himself, or at least a Bruce Wayne that could have been.

Perfect answer!

And why does it have to be Robin? And which one of the several Robins would it be [not as in the film versions, the comic versions]

Why can't we have Nightwing?
