he better not, plus that completely destroys the plot of me2 then because he could be just re put back together again (look what he accomplished in the second game? you'd be hella stupid not to do it again)

I would have to agree with you Beryl, the Shepard I made is the one that I wan't to experience the entire series with, I just hope that as a Paragon Shepard I don't have to sacrifice her life to stop the Reapers. That would feel like a major cop out.

I'd prefer if he died as it would make the ending more dramatic for a final closure to the ME series.

I applaud your motives. However, I doubt that would be sufficient.

Lazarus Project 2.0. Enough said.
Now with strechy arms and laser eyes. AWWW YEA

OT: Might play to the overly dramatic fans, but seeing how it's Bioware's bread and butter to provide a good, band, and the ugly type of deal with their games, there's a good chance of him dying. As long as you don't even try to win.

Personally I believe that upon given the choice, yes Shepard should die. Because while he/she has saved the galaxy almost singlehanded up till this point, he/she are only a single person compared to the vastness of a entire universe.

If believe that if Shepard dies (Which would be cool to carry over in a future Mass Effect installment outside the main trilogy) his/her impact/legacy will forever remain in the series and lore. Any and all future games will recognize such a important character in possibly different ways.

I would LOVE to play a future game where it's years after he/she died, and nobody even remembers or acknowledges Shepard ever existed. All his/her accomplishment's having been credited to various myths and legends, or mere obscured details that cover the truth (like maybe some people believing Shepard was Asari or Krogan, or that it was actually the actions of one faction that did those things).

Because in the end, how many heroes go on to live a happyily ever after and get everlasting fame? I'd rather see a aftermath where like most of real history, heroes are nothing but what we read in books written by others, or exaggerated stories told by those in awe at what was done by such people.

And thus...my strangely long rant about something I really couldn't give half a crap about at the end of the day. Which evidently won't/shouldn't affect someone elses opinion's, nor should they give half a crap about mine.

I certainly hope not! I've been busting virtual ass to get my Shepard exactly how I want her and she's not going to die on me damnit!

All joking aside though, I think it would actually be a bad for Shepard HAVING to die, but then again I'm a sucker for happy endings with the hero/heroine standing proud and tall. I've always felt sad endings made the story itself pointless, you went through the whole story just for...sadness? Why?

At the same time though, I went for Thane, so if he dies somewhere in 3, maybe it's best my Shepard passes on too...

They'd just put him back together again like Space Marine Humpty Dumpty. It'll be fine.
They'd just throw him in a Dreadnought [http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Dreadnought] and be done with it.

Should be everyones individual choice. Maybe your Paragon Shep is willing to sacrifice his life for the cause, or maybe he worries that he'll be needed another day, and thus makes sure he survives. Maybe your renegade Shep isn't ready to die, or maybe he would rather die doing what he loved than spend the rest of his life bored.

I would say yes if it was done well. Making the series into a tragedy will be bold and drive the medium foward and open up the topic of humanity in games.

Of course that would require the series to be well written and while some parts were not good parts of it was. Right now I'm curious how they will get out of this they wrote themselves into a corner right now.

The canon (read: no paragon or renegade options) ending will probably be the noble sacrifice. That would artistically be satisfying. Other endings would have to be PRETTY good to top that, but I feel Bioware can do it.

My answer is no.

Shepard has already died, a good hero shouldn't repeat himself. Or herself. Or itself. Whatever.

In any case, I do not think he needs to die. Is it possible he does? Absolutely. However, just because his story is ending does not mean that he needs to be killed off. Future games could simply have him as a retired hero wandering the galaxy or settled down on some remote world out of public view. Maybe the next story takes place far enough in the future that Shepard has died of age.

Bottom line, alternative "don't kill my beloved hero" options are viable.

I'm hoping for several different endings. I do not want my Shepard to die. I want him to go and do whatever. Open up a space taco stand in a sombrero-shaped ship. Or a pie shop: "Shepard's Pies".

If Bioware were ballsy enough to make it so choices in the first two games could determine whether or not death is inevitable by the third, making the choices have some sort of actual weight beyond a few lines of slightly changed dialogue, that would be badass.

I don't think so. He/she doesn't need to be a martyr in order to be a good hero (or heroic sociopath if full Renegade).

He doesn't have to, but it could certainly make the ending even more awesome and poignant than it will be.
