I watched Wolverine and Australia purely for the man-candy.
And every time I play Uncharted I make Nate roll through water so his shirt gets all wet and clingy.
I'm not ashamed that I objectify men. :D

Nope. Sexual content has no effect on what I buy.

To everyone saying it sells to the masses, studies [http://newsbusters.org/blogs/colleen-raezler/2009/12/29/new-research-shows-sex-movies-doesn-t-lead-box-office-success] disagree [http://www.sciencebase.com/science-blog/sex-doesnt-sell.html].

This is what everyone is thinking when they read the question. The real question should be 'who lies to themselves, and who acknowledges his own failings?'

[sup]Yeah, I voted for the boobs...[/sup]
I'm telling the truth.
Why would I lie?

[sub]And I can't say I'm surprised[/sub]
Insecurity? A need to prove yourself to the faceless masses of the internet?

[sup]You say that as if you know me...

*paranoia*[/sup]

Seconded.

But in the grander scheme, yes, sex sells; I wish I had the patience to actually look up the print adverts from the late '80's and '90's that I studied in high school. The only one that actually comes immediately to mind was a vodka ad that had a variety of nearly subliminal effects within the images, of a vaguely sexualized nature. Since I can't remember the actual name of the advert, I'll refer you to www.subliminalworld.org, although they seem a little... well, poorly polished.

Maybe it's the lack of obvious boobies anywhere on their site.

It's not that sex sells the ad, it's that sex keeps people's attention in the ads, which ultimately makes you watch their commercial longer. The idea is that advertisement in general is supposed to make you want to buy someone's product, and sex is just a way of keeping people watching the commercial, instead of say, changing the channel to another show or something.

It's not blatant sex that sells, it might simply be an attractive spokesperson that attracts your attention, or implying that the product can make relationship bliss. And it's not omg noticeable either.

No.

If I want to watch porn I'll just open a porn website and whack away. If I want to watch an advert I want to watch an actual advert not some bimbo undressing herself but then covering up right before she reaches the goods.

Why do people think sex sells? Sex sells to 12 years old just entering puberty, not teenagers or adults. I mean seriously, are directors that stupid that they'll actually think putting a hot dude/woman on the screen will automatically guarantee sales? Goddamn, people are idiots.

What makes me want to buy the poop that they present in the add is how the damn thing is actually PRESENTED. Features, what it can do, what are its disadvantages etc. THAT'S what makes me want to buy something, not sex.

It is all around us. Movies, music, tv, video games, entire magazines are devoted to it. If it's media it more than likely to contain it. But does sex really sell? Does Paris Hilton washing a car in a sexy swimming suit really make you want to eat that hamburger? Let me know what you think!
this has been done already, try the search bar.

anyway, sex makes me not want to try something when it is the only thing that a game uses to attract gamers, like Evony. if anyone has one of their ads to put up for example, go ahead. i hope the game dies, but it wont because of the preponderance of lonely guys in basements

I never bought a game due to any sex advertisement. I'm not a lesbian so boobs do nothing for me. I haven't seen many games that have a hot guy, they usually just have grizzly overly-buff men which is not the kind of guy I like. Who knows if they created a average game where the only reason to buy it is a hot protagonist I might, it gives you something to look at other than a bear. Of course if it's a bad game no amount of hotness would make me want to buy it.

Personally I would go for either whatever's cheapest or something I know and trust. But yes, of course sex sells, if it didn't then the media wouldn't use it. If you want an example all you have to do is go to the 90's and the release of the Wonder Bra. Men bought it for their wives, girlfiends, other people's wives etc. just because on the posters and T.V. ads. there was some big breasted, good looking woman. And for the exact same reason women bought it for themselves - because if the girls on the ads. look that good with their breasts pushed up then surely they (the woman) can too.

Thinking about it there's also the Herbal Essences shampoo commercials, from more or less out of nowhere it became (and still is) one of the U.K's (I'm not sure what other countries it's in or how well in those countries, but...) best selling hair products because although it smells good, it shamelessly (though as a guy I did like them) used a girl having an orgasm in the shower to promote it.

So although sex may not be the only factor when viewing an advert as to whether you'll buy it or not, it does play a part, and that's why it's used to sell products over and over again.

Whaat?

People actually claim that they are not affected by sex. Now obviously anything can be overdone/misused, but really, if see boobs next to a box;

You're going to notice it, you're gonna pay attention to it and it will give you a more specific mental image of the box.

Even if you go "Ugh, bad ad" You'll still see the box next to boobs and it will affect you. In a way that makes money.

And since when has every sexual ad been Paris Hilton or Megan Fox kinda ad. It can also be made tastefully for fucks sake. It seems everytime sexual asvertising is mentioned it's straight to Bayonetta(wich is awesome, because it's doing it on purpose).

I expected more from escaparinos...

This thread reminded me of this.
