Not here at plymouth university. Even in the Uni halls, which technically runs off the same internet as the main campus.

Had to wait until second year when I moved out of halls to install it, and I'm pretty sure it still won't work properly using the uni's internet.

It works at my university (USF, that's South Florida, not San Francisco) but it did not work at Polk State College, the community college where I picked up my AA. USF has a surprisingly active PC gaming scene as a result, and there's even a game room in the student center where impromptu LoL lans happen pretty much daily -- plus, one of the church groups in the area throws a free 100 seat LAN party for any college students that want to go once a term. 8 hours of gaming, five minutes of preaching, totally fair trade.

So yeah, if you're looking for a gamer friendly school, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place than USF. We've also got a videogame club, a trading card game club, an HvZ club, a tabletop roleplaying club, a Quidditch team, and two separate weekly LARPs.

Steam works fine at my university here at Keele (UK). There's an anoying daily download limit but it's fine if I'm willing to accept a game will take a few days to DL.
Hmm, how bizarre. I have a friend who's currently at Keele and he can't play games online like TF2 and Killing Floor. Did you have to request to get the ports unblocked or something? It's kind of a pain that we can't play stuff together anymore.

OT: I was at Liverpool University for a couple of weeks, and Steam works fine there in my brief stay. I'm now at the University of Sheffield, but I have yet to try Steam here. Nothing I've tried to access through the Uni's network is blocked, so I can only assume Steam works here too.

At weekends and after 5pm, in halls but on the Uni's network. I just use a VPN if I want to login during the day though, not really a big deal.

Well I do have trouble playing some games online with friends, but that seems to be particular to the games as it doesn't affect them all. I can play Dark Souls online just fine, and I haven't had trouble with Guild Wars, but games like Magica, Orcs Must Die 2 and Borderlands 2 don't seem to want to connect to anything.

Steam is completely fair game on the computers here. Reason being is that the lab computers here get wiped at the end of the day anyways. I'm sure some stuff is blocked but I don't go around searching and I have access to my laptop where nothing is blocked. All in all the internets is fair game here (Rochester, NY as an fyi)

Steam is blocked 24 hours a day on Campus, aside from halls where it's blocked till 7PM.

I'm in private halls so this doesn't really effect me, but it does mean I have to wait till the evening before I can play TF2 with my Uni mates.

Yes Steam works here Adelaide uni (Australia) but that's not the best part
Microsoft obviously had a deal with our uni so now there are beast computers and a Kinect specifically for playing games steam works great and have had no issues with any other games.
So ye pretty good layout here.
So far zero issues with block sites besides porn or torrents but who the hell really is going to use that anyway.

Though I'm not at uni, I have a friend at Keele University in the UK. He can access Steam and go on the store and use the chat and stuff, but can't connect to any servers in-game. For some reason the only online games he can access are Blizzard ones.
He can technically download games and patches, but he gets such an itty bitty download limit that he might as well not be able to.

I haven't had anything blocked at my Uni (University of Leicester) but then again, I haven't tried to look at any porn.

I'm at UCL (University College London) and we get a rather annoying issue. Steam works perfectly fine, we can view the store, download, even play online, the only issue is that we can't play LAN. This applies to anything we play, not just games on steam itself. It really screws things over for games like Dawn of War 2: Retribution where to play a custom game you would need someone to be at home hosting so that those in uni could join him/her, which obviously defeats the point. For our gaming Society we have just resorted to buying a separate router and playing offline LANs

I'm at Keele uni myself, and it's... well, a little weird.
It doesn't technicaly have an outright ban on Steam, but the conection thing has some tricky issue. See, if you've connected to Steam before on a PC/laptop and then go to connect with it here? Perfectly fine. Steam's up and running, and you go off and have happy super fun time.
But if it's your first time running steam on the laptop/PC, and you try to do it here, it just doesn't work. And as for online gaming, I still haven't worked out how that works - it worked fine on my old laptop, but my new one, brought halfway through the year? Can't play any online games, at least through steam. It's kind of a clusterfuck, to be honest.

I'm at a small community college type in OK and the only thing that doesn't seem to work here is Rise of Immortals and Gameranger. Don't much care one way or the other for RoI, but I wanna play BFME with my friends,damnit1
