This thread is inspired from the recent Phoenix Jones threads. I notice in these threads that people were either for or against his actions (not just his recent antic but taken his past actions into account). It make me wonder if there were such thing as a "real" superpower individual (being able to fly without wings or being able to lift a car single handily) in this world would our opinion of that hero/ vigilante would be the same or different?
It seen a part of the current problem with people like Phoenix Jones is his appearance and his actions doesn't seen to be taken seriously, would it be different if he swoop in from the sky and throw his fist about or stuns the people with his energy bolt? On the other hand his action alone proves he doesn't need superpowers.

I suppose this can be view as- if superheroes from the comics like Marvel or DC were in the real world would we still view them as heroic individual (as in his/ her powers is awesome and he or she got a cool name)?

I think it should be noted that if superpower hero did exist, they would be different compared to the comic since they are abide to real world logics (they couldn't fly all the way to the atmosphere unless he or she can withstand the cold and leaping from a few foot above ground will hurt your feet and legs).
However to what make a superhero a hero is there would be a super villain. How much of a threat of this villain is up to you since do you think someone can or really want to rule the world? (Well it depend on his/her ability and the resources he/ she got.) I suppose in real world logic that may not be possible but at most maybe a leader of a mafia like group or some organization.
If the heroes and villain go head to head do you really think it would be that chaotic or would it simple be some dangerous street brawl?

TL;DR If there were people with real superpowers being a superhero or supervillain (or people like Pheonix Jones got real superpowers) do you think this world need/ want them?

EDIT-Look like the poll didn't work which the options were-

Yes
No
Maybe
Depends (Explain).

Aslong as he/she doesn't let anything but pure justice in the way(as in,race, money, power, position) I would support them.

Yes, if I could shoot lightning out of my finger tips.

Actually, no, it would probably create an x-men like reality and people will die.

No, because would every person use their power for good? I know I wouldn?t. If I could arc lightning out of my finger tips Sith style, I would not be a hero. I would take advantage of my power. I would sit there and say, ?I am a Greek god that walks among men. Bow before me.? Then I would probably be taken out by military forces. *sighs*

I'm guessing English is not your native language. Not a flame, but there's only so far in my dyslexic brain will read this semi-English.

However, I think the more probable real-world scenario is that people would apply their powers to services that would make them money. I don't think you'd find many altruistic superheroes or cartoon supervillains, when you can make more using your super powers for personal profit directly, rather than knocking over a bank.

I could see a very few venues where it could work, but for the most part, you could get a job with your "special skills," or at the very least become a B (minimum) celebrity with your powers.

Would people support a real life superhero, assuming we got that far? Probably right up until the property damage.

It really depends on the scale of the supers, but guys like Superman and such cause a ton of property damage. Even on Spider-Man's level, there's a lot of it, and street-levels CAN. Punisher, for example.

I didn't particularly like the movie Hancock, but I suspect its take is somewhat accurate: I think any real-world superhero with real powers would need awesome PR at the least. And I'd expect the public to turn on them fast. On any level.

Also, dammit, this is my second post with a capcha in a row. What the crap is up with this?

To have gods among men will create hell on earth.

Captcha: eloike AENEAS Sounds like some kind of god... I'll call Dave's Discount Deities and see if they have any altars in stock.

Honestly superheroes in the real world would turn into The Authority (superheroes take over and everyone is afraid of them) or Days of Futures Past (everyone is afraid of superheroes and try to wipe them out). Either one doesn't sound much like a world I would like to live in.

Just hold on until I build a Kryptonite bunker, then go right ahead :p

Why yes it would end in a horrid disaster, but at least overpopulation wouldn't be an issue.

As much as I would love to have a superpower, the world doesn't need "superheroes." I just know that if someone cut me off in traffic, I'd flip their car off the road with my mind.

Pretty much this. Batman-like super heroes would be cool though.

No! Humanity needs to learn from it's own mistakes and correct them. If the person/people with superpowers would just come and correct the wrongs of the world how would we learn anything, sooner or later we would come reliant on them to correct our wrong doings and the misfortunes that we face. Bringing a real supernatural being would make things worse.

You don't teach a child to walk by carrying him every time he falls. He needs to learn to get up on hes own and not to cry for help every time something goes wrong. People already rely too much on god and supernatural in order to explain/help or blame things.

We need nothing else than our humanity to fix and destroy this world and how I have seen, we are really damn good at doing both.

If its me, YES!

For anyone else, it would go badly. People aren't nice. Even nice people aren't nice when presented with overwhelming advantage. It wouldn't go well. A real life human with the power of superman would be a cruel world dictator in no time, even if he started out to make things better for people.
You assume that you are incorruptible while assuming everyone else is easily corruptible?
I'm guessing he assumes having a cruel world dictator is really fun if you're the one doing the dictating.
