No, I watch ZP to be entertained. I'd watch reviews on GameTrailers on games that I am interested in.

to an extent.. if he says a game is good, then i know its likely amazing so i'll get it.
I bought orange box because of him and could not have been more pleased with it

No. I find his reviews funny. But in the end you have to remember that he is pretty much paid to hate games. No one would watch his reviews if he liked/loved most of the games he reviewed.

I dont buy many games these days but Yeah he does.
Although i wouldnt buy it purely on his review, the man does pick out relevant (to me) annoyances.

I agree with a lot of what he says and at times I'll think about the complaints he makes I take that into consideration before buying. However, it all needs to be taken with a grain of salt his show is very good at what it does and what it does is criticize games.

It won't stop me from buying a game that looks appealing (Borderlands I bought and loved) and funny enough sometimes I have bought games I was on the fence about based upon his reviews (ex. Alpha Protocol, and Limbo). But it's nice to have an honest opinion about the downsides to each when you are choosing between a few.

When watching his videos, you have to sift through the comedy and sarcasm and figure out what he is really saying. Sometimes, he isn't really saying all that much. There are plenty of times when he focuses on a minor aspect of the game because it's funny, not because it's important.

Yahtzee seems to hate most games, but he influences what i buy just about as much as any other reviewer... which isn't really much.

I don't buy games based on whether or not Yahtzee (or any other reviewer) likes them or not, but if Yahtzee pointed out a flaw that would really ruin a game for me then i probably wouldn't get it.

If he hated on a game because of something i wouldn't really care about but talked about other aspects of it that sounded good, then i might get the game.

Absolutely. I think my PS3-owning friends are sick of me telling them that "Yahtzee said *insert game* was *blah blah* and so you *should/shouldn't* get it."

see i dont take his negative opinions seriously because he hates like every game, but when he does love a game, i wake up, slap myself, and pay attention. a man who so rarely likes a game is usually serious when he recommends anything.

so far, this has worked out nicely for me:

uncharted 2
assassin's creed 2
silent hill 2 (kind of)
painkiller
bioshock
psychonauts
CoD4
portal (of course)
arkham asylum
infamous

all very good games! so thank you yahtzee! you do have your influences on my game buying decisions!

Actually, yes. For awhile, I was completely closed to the idea of buying new games outside of franchises I knew I liked. In the course of my four year active duty enlistment, the only game I bought was Supreme Commander... because I used to love Total Annihilation, and I used to complain about a lack of a strategic view in said game.

...since beginning to watch ZP, I've bought Psychonauts, (most of) the God of War series, Portal, and Batman: Arkham Asylum (and a few other games here and there that Yahtzee didn't influence). In short: I spent about six years not being a gamer, and I'm slowly working video games back into my life, because really... they're cheaper than most of my other pastimes.

There's is only one purchase that he has affected in my entire gaming "career" - and that's Saints Row 2.

I tried playing GTA4 at a friends place and found it both fun and incredibly annoying. When I watched his review of it, he mentioned that your cousin, nor anyone else, would be nagging your ear off to come help them when you're in the middle of something in Saints Row 2. So I bought it, and I don't regret it in the least. :p

I don't pay much attention to reviews in general, and I don't really consider Yahtzee to be a reviewer anyway, since reviews are supposed to be neutral and that's one thing he's most definitely not.

I watch his "reviews" because they're funny, not because they influence my decision.
Why do reviewers need to be neutral?
He means they need to come in with an unbiased and open point of view. Yahtzee plays a game looking for things to hate.

He is not a reviewer, he is often overly critical of good or decent games just for fun.

However, I do pay attention to games he admited he likes, especially if I am considering buying it. Its so weird to hear him being positive about a game that it can be the deciding opinion.

It's Yatzee. He gets paid for bashing things. But when he recommends something I might take a look.

(btw, I see no poll here)
Yeah, I accidentally hit 'enter' instead of tab when I went to check the box for a poll. Sorry.
Just hit edit.

Doesn't affect me at all. He has a point in his reviews but, before I even start to view a video, I've already made up my mind about the game. If he bashes some game I already like, for example; BLOPS, I wont hesitate with my purchase. Unless he REALLY points out some gamebreaking flaws about the subject. But that's rarely the case in his reviews.

I just watch his videos for the laughs. It's fun to see him bashing some game I already hate.

Nope. However, I use his points to make the games my friends are considering on buying seem like shit. Just for kicks, you see.
