I haven't bought any games on his recommendation yet, but there are a few well reviewed games that I may buy that I wouldn't have heard of if it wasn't for zero punctuation. Like Minecraft- awesome, but I only heard of it in Yahtzee's review.

Purchase? Oh umm I mean, not really, if I want to try a game I'll try it, but after I play it I watch that specific ZP again to compare. If I hated the game I'll watch the ZP twice :)

No, because I outright refuse to watch/read anything of his. The one article of his (about the monniker "Gamer") was so off-putting for me that I refuse to be bothered with him.

Honestly, I don't see why he's liked so much. He's not funny. He's not entertaining. He's just a jack___.
And you were able to determine this about his entire body of work by only reading on single article. Impressive.
If you like him and want to read his works, that's completely up to you. I just don't see why. Sorry, I'm not going to waste a lot of time reading/viewing something I don't enjoy just on the off chance I'll find something there, or to try to find why others like him. I find him to be an arrogant ass, and therefore I don't waste my time with him.

Yes actually. I bought a number of games based on Yahtzee's reviews.
Condemned, which didn't disappoint.
Saints Row 2, which did.
Alpha Protocol, which is now one of my favourite games.

Well yes, it does. If it weren't for Yahtzee, I wouldn't have bought Painkiller. And STALKER. (Although I steered clear of Clear Sky, and got Chernobyl and Pripyat instead.) Other than that, no, I just watch it for the lulz, and there are plenty of those to be had. He tears my favorite games a new one, and most of the time I'm laughing, and even when he says something that really falls contrary to my views, I just say "Eh. To each their own."
Maybe it's because he's British? I don't know. Can I get somebody to berate me in a British accent very fast, and see if there's any correlation between these ideas?

Why do you care so much? I gave his work a try, decided I didn't care for him or his work and moved on.

Do you seriously take the time to give every article author a large reading just to feel that your opinions are justified? Must be nice to have that kind of time on your hands.

I pointed out that I don't like him. If you do, that's good for you, I guess. Why does my opinion of him mean so much to you?

Not really, If its something Im interested in I will buy it regardless of what he says. I bought Psychonauts cos I felt that it would be something I would enjoy, after all I bought Brutal Legend and I liked that so I thought it would be more of the same style, and Yahtzee review of it just added reassurance to my purchase.

I have a buddy of mine who worships Yahtzee and thinks everything he says about a game is the end of everything that needs to be said on a game. i wont even bat an eye if he fills out a form with his religious affiliation "Zero Punctualist." It does not matter how many times I've shown him games that Yahtzee has reviewed, called a piece of crap, and yet he still enjoys them, even aspects that have been ranted on, and yet he thinks yahtzee is some sort of gaming god.

Mostly anecdotal, but OP, i have purchased Psychonauts on his suggestion (as many have stated) past that, his Wednesday videos haven't swayed me at all in my game buying/playing/enjoyment.

Mostly just because you're being such an ass about it, honestly, pretending to be an expert on a guy's entire body of work by reading one article that was poorly-received even by the people who call themselves fans of his work. That and it's pretty adorable how riled up I can get you on one-statement replies.

Afraid not. If there's a game that I've been waiting for and he suddenly slams it, it doesn't change my opinion on it. He is known for hating nearly every game he reviews, why? Because it's entertainment and he's good at what he does.

Where did I pretend to be an expert, I stated my opinion. That's all. I'm so sorry you're incapable of making the leap from a statement like "He's an arrogant ass" to understanding that is only my opinion. I never said I was an expert. I said I, personally, don't enjoy his work.

And I'm not riled up. Replying to gives me an excuse to not work on other things I'm not really wanting to work on.

How cute, you can barely read too. I never said your opinion wasn't your opinion. That was fairly obvious when it was an opinion and you said it. I'm just pointing out that you're (still) claiming to know everything about not only everything this guy's work will have to offer you and but his own personality as well... from one article. It's endearing.

I bought Saints Row 2 because I saw it in store after seeing his review and thought "why not?" (the £6.99 price tag helped too). Other than that, not really. Still hilarious seeing that people think there somehow superior because they don't. And you call Yahtzee arrogant?

I assumed that's what you were saying because I was having a hard time believing that anyone could be so obtuse as to expect people to embrace large portions of someone's work before forming an opinion of him.

His articles never piqued my interest. I finally read one just to see if he was really worth the time, and I discovered that he wasn't. It's really very sad that you seem to be unable to form any kind of opinion without wasting a great deal of your time. Did you have to watch an entire season of Jersey Shore to realize that it's crap? I didn't care for his writing style, or his tone. Added in with the bits of his work I've seen mentioned by other people, and I decided that his work wasn't for me.

I weep for a generation that thinks that spending more than five minutes doing something before writing it off forever is considered an insurmountable task. Your world must be very lonely and stagnant.

This got me thinking. I love Zero Punctuation as much as the next guy does, but I would never have thought that his 'opinions' are taken seriously! People buying with his list must have pretty small libraries...

So, what about you guys? Does this influence your opinions?

EDIT: I seem to have some sort of phantom, invisible poll here. sorry.
No I don't take his reviews seriously but mostly because I'm even pickier than he is: there are very few games (maybe 2 or 3 if we're really lucky) that come out every year that I personally think are actually worth the launch price.
For example, he gave a glowing review for No More Heroes while I think it's probably one of the most overrated games of this gen.
And yes, I have a relatively small game library, but I do have more money. And with the rental service, I get to try out a broad spectrum of what's out there; even just to confirm for myself that most of what gets released is crap.
So I look at all game reviews as purely entertainment (lets face it, most of these "critics" have terrible taste) and Zero Punctuation reviews are definitely the most entertaining.
