No - most of the time I don't actually look at the avatars. I usually read most/all of the thread first, then look at the avatars.

Sometimes I'll look at the avatar, if I'm cross-checking if it's a forumgoer whose writing style I recognise.

No, I don't even think about my avatar whilst posting, and I usually just look at avatars to see if I recognise the poster.

I like hating on the 360 (HURR DURR RROD). I was called out on it once. Major Trollface followed.

Apar from that? no.

Nope *quack*

Seriously, my avatar has little to do with what I say. Other people's avatars really only interest me from an artistic point; the number of posts however may make me take their statements more laxly if they're trying just to be offensive, or I might try to introduce them to the ways of the forum I'm on right then.

Lord I hope not. If anyone was wondering, it's Paris Hilton reading the Art of War. The juxtaposition amused me, nothing more.

Bruff is a man of few words, and i when it comes to forums, i can be quite verbose. (sometimes anyway.)

Nah. If my avatar affected what I said, I wouldn't swear at all. I mean, I rarely swear but still, the little I do can be considered excessive for little Alphonse over there.

I dont really look at avatars, its very very rare that i stop reading for that. Only the familiar ones kinda pop out into my eye and then i think "ahh its him/her" well or "oh no not him/her again" :p
Same here for me avatars stick in my mind easier then names used. Sometimes it is weird when the keep changing avatars. By the way nope my avatar doesn't effect my words been using this one for ages now. Had a better one of them both kissing(to bad i lost that one).

I'm not sure people interpret me because i have a suicidal Tekkaman in my avatar. Could be wrong.

Like at least one guy above me said, I do recognise some people better because of their avatar as opposed to their username.

Pirate Kitty's recent change in avatar screwed me up for a little.

Well, my avatar often puts a smile on my face when I am feeling down, so that would be a plus in that regard. As for Renamon affecting my words in my posts, I would probably say no. I tend to voice my own opinion, while Renamon is there to personify who I am here on the Escapist.

[sub]Isn't that the purpose of an avatar in the first place?[/sub]

Does my avatar affect my posting habits?

No. Yes. It does. The more I know what I mean and what I'm trying to say, the more I can abstract from things like that.

I do think I end up being more verbose in my posts and open up my vocabulary when I have Edgeworth as my avatar. I think it also makes me try to think a bit harder when I am trying to be persuasive in my posts. And of course, it does make me pull out an OBJECTION! once in a great while.

The avatar generally doesn't affect my evaluation or interpretation of a comment, though I have partially chosen mine to convey a certain amount of gentle sternness (but mostly because I'm a fan of the show [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Higurashi-no-Naku-Koro-ni] it's from).
