DA:O was really easy to play on Consoles, I am on my seconde playthrough and its really easy. Not that hard to comprehend.JeanLuc761 said:I think he was just being a smartass, not a snob. It's well known by now that Dragon Age (the first one at least) was designed primarily as a PC game. Regardless, I hear Bioware put some good effort into giving a different combat system for the console versions so good on them for that.
you know....I think I'd prefer that... since I really sucked at the forst oneGrey_Focks said:Yeap, each time you hit attack, you attack. Honestly, while I liked Origins on PC, I just really like the more immediate feel in the console version of DA2.Vault101 said:So for the console is it like you have to press the button for each attack kind of thing?Grey_Focks said:Well, I've played both the 360 and PC demos, and I can safely say this. Both are awesome, but the PC version is more like a more fast-paced version of Origins, while the console version is just completely different, and just a lot more action-based. Even on medium settings (why can't we set it to high, dammit?!) it looked fantastic on my rather modest machine, but I honestly just preferred the control setup (and the ability to play from my couch and on a big-screen TV...) that the console version offered. I'll be getting it on 360 first, then maybe the ultimate edition on PC when it comes out.
Oh, and I saw the ps3 version today at a friends house, no noticeable difference between that and the 360 one.
Not sure I agree with that bit. I think mouse & keyboard will still give you more fine-grained control over combat, and I don't think you can really get immersed in an RPG while sitting back on your couch. Even pen & paper RPGs work better and feel more immersive when everybody's sat around a table, in proper chairs. I've tried playing them on couches and it just doesn't work right.Continuity said:Yes, unfortunately they have twisted the game so that the correct platform is now one with a controller.
Oh I agree wholeheartedly that RPGs are eminently suitable for m&k controls, but when you have a hybrid OTS view and abominations like wheel menus and all the lack of complexity that that entails, I think you have to concede that the game is made primarily with the controller in mind... therefore making the controller the correct control device for the designlithium.jelly said:Not sure I agree with that bit. Admittedly, the PC version will be gimped a bit due to the need to fit the game within the limitations of consoles. The models will be simpler and textures lower-res than they could be, and the areas you wander in will be smaller and less complex, all because they have to fit within the smaller memory footprint of consoles, and run smoothly on the less-powerful graphics hardware. But I still think the game will be a better experience at a desk, with a mouse and keyboard.
Besides, there will be mods on the PC version. Even if Bioware doesn't include official support for mods, modders will still do their thing, like they did for many other PC games that didn't include official mod support.
Ah, I see what you mean, sorry, I sometimes get the same problem... It once led to the death of several puppies...lithium.jelly said:Well, yeah, that's what we PC gamers do.sheah1 said:Do you really have to get snobbish about this? It was meant tongue-in-cheek, really. Unfortunately that seems not to come through very well in text.
No probs, sorry to cause offence.sheah1 said:Ah, I see what you mean, sorry, I sometimes get the same problem... It once led to the death of several puppies...

Ehhhhhh. Not true. You're really supposed to be playing it with a mouse and keyboard, they've just sort of kind of half-assedly added in a second control option on top of that which almost makes controller play viable. Having played the demo, I can attest that they put no effort into the so-called "action-RPG" controls and that it's the exact same game as the first one.Continuity said:Yes, unfortunately they have twisted the game so that the correct platform is now one with a controller.lithium.jelly said:I'm going to play it on the correct platform.
IMO any RPG that doesn't positively require a mouse and keyboard just isn't trying hard enough.
Perhaps, I guess I was just sounding off about console creep that's been going on over the last 5 years, the console platform is slowly but surely moving though the stock of traditionally PC games and beating the shit out of them with a big fat retard stick. Its like a rot or a cancer really.NickCaligo42 said:Ehhhhhh. Not true. Agreed. I'm no fan either. Frankly I feel like Bioware misses the core of the RPG experience just as much as any other company; they forget the creative problem-solving in favor of a skinner box made of abstract statistics and spreadsheets of equipment. In a lot of ways I get a truer RPG experience out Metal Gear Solid--and definitely Deus Ex--than I do out of anything Bioware has ever made.Continuity said:Plus I really didn't like the first DAO so I guess I'm biased against the second... I was promised something to equal Baldurs gate and what I got was the worst RPG I've ever played. That sort of thing leaves an impression.
