Today I passed my driving test on my second attempt which got me thinking, how many attempts does it take most people to pass. A lot of people I have spoken to say that the norm is taking the test twice (and passing the second time) but is this the case with you fellow escapists?

So folks, for those of you who have the keys to the car, L-plates not included, how many attempts did it take you to pass your test?
And for those still with L-plates or non-drivers, how many times would you like to take your test before you pass? (That sounds like a non-brainer but I've been suprised by people's responces to that question before now).

Discuss!

2 attempts all those many years ago... My first attempt he drove me to a nightmare improvised one way road works system. After he said that even he was confused, so I still to this day don't get why if he was confused I got failed for pausing to assess the signs.

Second time I passed with flying colours, 1 minor if I recall. Didn't take any lessons between, just rebooked straight after the first fail.

I took the wrong turn.

I stopped past the stop line at a red light.

The instructor literally had to get out of the car to see if I was in the lines when I backed into a space.

That was my first try.

I passed.

3 times, and the first 2 times they were right to fail me, I never practiced and really wasn't safe on the roads. After I passed I drove like a nutter for years, a good few close calls that could have killed me, passengers and everyone in the other car. I drive a lot slower and more curteously now.

I had to do it a second time, because the instructor was being an asshole for reasons unrelated to my test, and took it out on me. Second time, I did great.

Got the practical part first time with seven minor errors. :D
...However, I needed three stabs at the Hazard Perception and Theory test. :p

1 time.
Though i didn't do a "Driving" exam as i went through Drivers ED, which had a lot of driving already.

It was just a pretty long test, i passed it at about 75% correct.

First time but in those days I dare say it was a lot easier than today as it was over 20 years ago :/

Two, with only three demerits.

And the first time I only missed by a single point, which was a bummer, but probably a good thing.

Wow, I'm actually suprised by the poll results so far, I was certain it there would be more second time passers, I guess escapists are generally natural motorists! :)
Maybe it's all the racing games? (Say... there's an interesting social experiment...)

First time for me, with 4 minors :)
Ninja'd.

Extra info; a British license.

Edit: Oh, first time on theory too; got the bare minimum (41 or 42 is it?) on the questions and aced the hazard perception.

Also, congrats OP. [sub]I'm now embarassed that I didn't congratulate you pre-edit.[/sub]

It's funny that this thread should happen today. For, you see, If I weren't lazy I could've taken my test and gotten my licence today (in Florida you have to have your permit for 1 year)

Wow, coincidence, I think not... That's interesting, does that mean you can't get a full licence before then?

Drivers ed was mandatory and it was just given that you'd take the test as soon as you were done in my hometown. I was good enough but Dad made me drive the block and parallel park 20 times before he'd let me take the test ... I got it on my first try, but some old duffer damn near slammed into me at the ONE goddamn 4-way in town. Instructor said to watch out for the old people as it was an elderly community. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's age 60 that people just expect that drivers will get out of their way.
