Passed first time in my mom's minivan. Which is an accomplishment considering that the parallel parking section is made for a smaller car. A friend of mine failed that part in a honda fit, which is like half the length of the car I used.

Got a 98% on the written and pasted the driving part on the first try, I forgot to turn off the blinker on the driving portion which was my only infraction...

Two. Because Ravenna DMV people SUCK and their city is set up funky. I passed driving (barely, one of the roads had NO discernible line down the center, it looked like a one-way alley road like 90% of all roads in Ravenna do) and their course for maneuvers is NOT lined up with the road you have to pull in from. I passed in it Cuyahoga with no problem whatsoever because it was on FLAT ground and EVENLY set up.

Haven't taken mine yet. I will in a few weeks. I'm confident in my driving abilities though. However, I think backing up might give me some trouble...

Written: passed on 1st try
Driving: passed on 2nd try. I failed the first time because the back side of my car crossed an imaginary line on the polygon >_> But I passed both parts of the driving test on 2nd try.

I passed first time which was a surprise to me. I hate driving. Selling my car now so it was pretty pointless in the long run, but I might buy a motorbike as parking in Cambridge is ridiculous.
Do you have a motorcycle license too? Now that's a ***** of a test!

I passed my full motorcycle test on attempt 2, rode for a year and a half and then passed my driving test on the first attempt after half the recommended training time.

Driving's easy after doing the bike thing first!

2. I passed on the second attempt. The guy I had the first time really made me nervous though, more so than I was already. And I pulled a real doozie by mistaking an oncoming traffic lane for a turning lane, so I ended up on the wrong side of the road. *facepalm* Fortunately it was in an area of town that barely ever saw any traffic.

think it's pretty important to say where you're from for this. i've seen tests in the UK and the US for example and i could have passed the US test after my first lesson, the british one was much, much harder.

and it was 2.

Took me four tries at my Theory Test and got my practical test in one :]

... God I hate the theory test system here...

Passed the first time, actually just took it quite recently.

The woman I was taking it with however nearly made me crash by changing her mind last second when she told me where to turn. I wonder if that was part of the test or if it was just her own stupidity.

I passed mine the first time I went for it, just that the instructor nearly went "tsk tsk tsk" after i stalled my test car by accident before the test started. luckily, she was lenient and gave me a chance.

So i guess its technically 2 then?

Didn't have to take a driving exam because I took Driver's ED. However, my permit I passed with 2 spare points of leeway room on my first go.

Parallel parking always was a problem in driver's ed though, but now I can do it a heck of alot better than peeps whom've done it for years. Course I"ve only done it like, six times since I got my license six years ago.

First time I failed to indicate one too many times (who the hell indicates when leaving a roundabout?) and failed to look over my shoulder when changing lanes.

I got it second time though.

The norm for where I'm at you usually take 3 driving tests before you can get your license although I do now people who got them after 2, sadly I wasn't one of the special ones.

this poll while welcome is probably very prone to response bias: people who passed first time, on seeing the topic in the side bar may feel more inclined to answer than people who didnt. I am an example of the former, dunno if i would have bothered to answer if i had had to retake. Sorry for the nerdiness, i've been reading bad science :p
