I go trick-or-treating for the below reasons:
A)I like to dress up
B)Free candy
C)I need the exercise

This is related to the last reason. I noticed last year that some people were driving their car to each house, getting the candy, and returning to the car. I found this ridiculous. You have to burn the (let's say) 1 pound walking and gain 5 pounds with the candy! So my question to the Escapist community is:

Have you seen this before where you live? And what are your thoughts on it?

Never heard of that before. I think it's ridiculous. Trick or treating should be done on foot not via vehicle. Unless they're trying to maximize the houses they hit, then it may just be brilliant.

It seems like driving from house to house would take up more time than It saves around my area. If you're on foot you just walk 10 feet across the lawn to the next house, instead of walking back to the car, starting it up, driving forward 10 feet, stopping it, and then walking to the house.

I'd only use the car if I was dressed like Michael Myers (including the Shatner mask!)and had this hammering out with all the windows down!!

It's pretty stupid. The only time I could see that making sense would be if they were trick or treating around an area with houses that are really far apart.

It seems pretty stupid to be honest. What's wrong with walking?

The only reason I can think of is this - where I live there's not many street lights on the roads and if I hadn't been paying super close attention I would have squished about 10-15 kids all dressed up in black wandering in the middle of the roads. But then, maybe kids near where I live think that they are invincible and any car speeding toward them is going to be ok.

Won't the cost of petrol mean you should just buy the sweets?

Who, who can drive, tricks or treats?

For me the issue is people that drive from one (crappy) neighborhood to another more profitable one. To me if you're driving you might as well drive to the store and buy some candy.

That's just retarded! Now if they could Trick or Treat without getting out of the car, then they could be on to something!

Parents?

When I was trick-or-treating my mom would drive us around to different neighborhoods in our town. We would walk to all of the houses and get the candy, then come back to the car and hit up a different neighborhood. There were different parts of town that notably had better results than others.

I remember making a topic about this last year, deja vu o_O
I think it's pretty lazy if they live in the same neighborhood, but if you live out in the country, go on ahead and drive to different neighborhoods. But you betta be walking once you get there!

I'm of the belief that if you're old enough to drive you need to stop trick-or-treating.
Good point, well made.

I learned to drive at 17. I probably stopped trick or treating at about 12...

Unless of course their parents drive them around or something. Either way, it's pretty fucking lazy.

I have to drive where I live. The houses are too far apart. Once I get to the neighborhood, my mom follows me around in the car.

I did that for a couple of years, mostly because all the places that we went trick or treating were pretty far apart, and it was cold.
