Not unless I have already completed the game and am just looking for achievements, or just doing a fun playthrough. Other than that it is Normal and the hardest difficulty for me :)

Definitely depends on the game. Specifically, if I'm playing a game I picked because I liked the sound of the gameplay mechanics then I'll play it on Normal. If I'm playing for the immersion potential or storytelling, then I knock it down to easy so I don't have to worry too much about what I'm doing and focus on the gameworld as a whole.

Generally normal. I only switch down to easy if my ass is getting kicked or up to hard if I'm finding it to simple.

I haven't played on easy ever since an associate of mine, having just instructed me to finish a section of the game on two difficulty levels less than I finished it on, told me to accept he was a better gamer than me.

Call me petty but I haven't seen him since.

The other day is was at my friends house and saw him play a new game.
he popped in the cd an selected easy difficulty, when is asked why he played on easy difficulty he replied; 'What?, i always do that.'
When discussing this with my other friend he said he did the same thing.
Am i the only one who always plays games on normal difficulty?
I play normal also, usually easy when just going for achivements:

where you have to only use the missles while in the hind, or kill ten enemies with the flamethrower, so much easier on easy when you are immortal.

Normal is just to get use to the handling of the game. And any difficulty higher is for the challenge.
Really? I got those ones on hardened. I thought those ones were easy.

OT: I actually do more or less the same as everyone else. Normal/Hard then go Hardest then if I really want achievements or collect stuff then easy.

I almost always play on easy because 90% of the time I'm playing for story and not gameplay.

I play on easy first so that if I don't like the game I can get through it ASAP and if I do like the game then I can do harder difficulties later anyway

I usually play on normal and then decide whether the game is to easy or to hard then I adjust it.

Normal but for very long game which focus on story I go for easy. Then hard, brutal etc for a added challenge.

I almost never play hard or higher difficulties, because I want my character to genuinely feel like a powerful ass kicker, which is hard when all the enemies are stronger, tougher, and faster than you by default.

EDIT: Also, I'm shitty at 3rd person action games like Bayonetta and God of War, but I like playing for the spectacle.

Gotta love how playing on hard is currently the least picked option. Hard is the new medium anyway, since most games have a super-duper, this-will-castrate-you difficulty that in reality, is hard. Easy is like a tutorial.

Having said all that, I did put Black Ops on easy last night. That goddamn flamethrower achievement. In my defense, this was after dying about a dozen times.

I always play on Hard or Normal. These days, generally Hard.

I only use Easy when achievement/collectible hunting.
Exactly what I was going to say.

1st play through easy or normal
2nd play through what ever makes the game most fun (I like a challenge but I don't like when things are just hard not challenging).

I do it sometimes. if it's a game like, say, Black Ops where I don't really care about the campaign, I'll just put it on easy, breeze through, get the story, then move on to multiplayer. but if it's a game like Arkham Asylum, I'll try and beat it on normal or hard

I play RPG's on easy, because often times I don't even like the combat very much and just want to focus on the story (like in DA:O and ME2)

RTS and most FPS games I'll play on normal.

Some FPS I'll play on hard, like Killzone 2 because anything less was quite easy.

Fighting games I could play on the hardest setting, but I prefer playing against real people instead.

depends on game + genre, but usually i don't play on easy
exception: starcraft (2)
i don't care much about that sort of tactical rts with all its mini-micro and stuff, but i wanted to hear the whole story asap. which was far inferior to starcraft 1 + broodwar.

and baldur's gate 2, played that only on... moderate? normal? the one after easy ^^"
same reason: need story!!

Play it on Easy
Play it on Normal
Play it on Hard
And so on.
That's how i do it...
Some of my friends start of on Hard because they think it helps them adjust quicker but i have never got that so i do it this way.

I stick to normal for my first run on any game, then amp up the difficulty on my other playthrouhs if I want to try it again. The only time I really go on easy mode is when I'm goofing around or just want to try something in game that isn't storyline related.

99% of the time I'll play on Normal first time and if the game warrants a replay I'll move up a notch or two. My only exception was Metal gear solid 2, I played it straight through on normal and then brought it right down't to very easy just so I could bypass as much of the game as possible and hit the story points fast in an effort to figure that cluster-fuck out.
