I only really edit them when I see that I made a mistake.Or want to add something relevant to the conversation at hand.

I often only read through my posts after I've posted them, and realizes there is something extremely funny or relevant I want to add to the post, so I edit.

I think an equally pertinent question would be "How often do people use the 'preview' function?"

I see lots of examples of people not previewing their posts before posting, such as horribly broken and messed up quote trees, embedded Youtube videos which have had embedding disabled by request, or broken links to images which looks something like this:

image

I don't understand why people would bother to quote someone, or link a video or image but not even bother to check whether it displays properly, it completely defeats the purpose.

EDIT:
On the subject of editing posts, I mainly edit when I've posted something but then realise I haven't actually addressed the original topic... like I've just done now.

I generally edit them only after i see a mistake on my part such as missing the / from spoiler tags

Darth vader IS lukes father!
Apart from that i dont really edit myself unless i've suddenly remembered something massively important to say which doesnt happen very often.

I used to only use it to fix errors in my posts, such as spelling, but now I find myself using it more and more frequently just to add afterthoughts to what I posted not 5 seconds before.
That. I always re-read what I've written after posting and usually end up editing for clarity or to add afterthoughts.

I only edit posts when I made an error or something. Whether I'm unclear or it was a spelling/grammar mistake. And I often make mistakes.

Quite often - sorting out large quote-streams that have gone wrong, adding in afterthoughts, addressing someone who posted in the meantime etc. as well as all the normal spelling corrections and so forth.

I edit if I make a mistake and don't check before posting. I'll also edit if I feel I didn't explain myself well enough with my first post.

It doesn't happen often.

Sometimes... usually with grammar/spelling mistakes... or if I edit it to include more to avoid double posting...

When i miss a point i wanted to make, or see a big grammar or spelling mistake, i let smaller ones slip.

Like in this post.

Usually for spelling mistakes or to add something on the end. For example I make a habbit of writing something and then if I missed something out/thought of something later I put it under "[Edit]"

[Edit]
like this =D

Yeah, I do it all the time, mainly for mistakes, but also I'll think of something straight away after I post.
Edit:

If I notice a mistake, I'll edit it.
I'll also edit in quotes from other posts if I've already posted and then notice the post I want to quote. I have a habit of posting, then reading other posts.

If you could follow that, well done.
Yeah, this too.
