Eggman, because Robotnik is Polish for "blue collar man". Or more precisely, "worker".

I feel weird then.

Considering how he's supposed to be an evil scientist with an army of robots it makes more sense (and sounds cooler) to call him Dr. Robotnik (that actually sounds like a villain's name, Dr Eggman by contrast, sounds a tad too cute and harmless, also while he may look like a giant egg he isn't actually an egg).

And a show being live has what to do with a fact being false? Also he never stated circle(although I see how you would link "round" and "circle" together!), he did however state a difference between round and egg shaped. Also, no. In a piece of that evidence that I put forward saying a face is rather rounded which you took to mean round... though a face can most certainly have corners!
A face can also be round and still not be a circle (since faces still are 3-dimensional).
Face it (heh), round =/= circle.
Okay... so please tell me why this is relevant to my post about "eggs" and QI?

It has to be Robotnik, every Sonic game I ever played it was Robotnik. Then a few years ago this Eggman jester with long spindly legs who isn't flying around in a kick ass miniship swinging shit around turns up and confuses the hell out of me.
What did he do with Robotnik? Where did he take him?
I blame the destruction and epic failure of recent Sonic games entirely on renaming Robotnik Eggman

Although they're technically both the same guy, I've noticed that "Dr. Robotnick" seemed to be the more serious and ruthless villain (that crazy movie non-withstanding), whereas "Dr. Eggman" seemed to be a comical cartoonish villain.

It's not relevant to QI.
It is relevant to your claim that eggs aren't round just because they aren't circular, though.

Since when are eggs round? :D
I feel like we're going in circles. Heh.

Dr. Eggman Robotnik

Because SA2 and Sonic X established both names as equally canonical, and Robotnik is clearly a last name.

Also Princess Peach Toadstool.

Oh no, "WE" arent... "I" am... 6 people now.

An egg isnt round, it is rounded... Hell, even from the top viewing down it is round as that would appear circular.

I think I am going to have to place my bets with Stephen Fry.

Simply that the length of time that you had to scroll down to find a definition which you could link to an egg rather than taking any of the first couple of dozen definitions was ridiculous!!!

BUT if you want to continue being truly ignorant of the shape of an egg then please continue, even though I truly believe that you are stubborn and simply dont want to admit defeat to a guy who hasnt slept in over 24 hours but you will actually take from this that an egg is NOT round!
Jak please. Let's look at your link to Dictionary.com shall we?

Of the adjective variations given an egg fits:

3. curved like part of a circle, as an outline.
4. having a circular cross section, as a cylinder; cylindrical.
7. free from angularity; consisting of full, curved lines or shapes, as handwriting or parts of the body.
Thus, eggs can be described as being "round."

Here's the adjective definitions on Wiktionary which concur. [http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/round#Adjective]

Robotnik is definitely the right name for the villain. Translation and nostalgia issues aside, "Eggman" just makes him sound like a pussy. Knock him over like Humpty Dumpty and he'll break and be dead.

Ivo Robotnik sounds like the name of a fiendish supevillain.

Eggman sounds like.... a bad post-Maharishi Beatles cover band.

Forever and on... Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

I know he's been "Eggman" since the very beginning in Japan... but that was their canon, and this was ours. "Eggman," like many character names translated to English, is just silly and not at all menacing. Frankly, I always preferred the American/European canon with locations like Mobius and such. It's a lot more interesting than throwing Sonic into a version of the real world with normal humans hanging around.

It would be like if Mario didn't have the Mushroom Kingdom to live in and protect. There was always the backstory in the States that he and Luigi were plumbers from Brooklyn, but I don't recall Nintendo holding up that premise in a very long time. That being said, imagine if Mario as he is now was thrust back into the real world, to protect some imitation of New York from Bowser Koopa (Looks like I kind of described the old SMB Movie. I liked that film though. "Cyberpunk Mario" is awesome!).

Anywho... yeah, Robotnik > Eggman.

I think all Sonic fans from the good ol' days will agree that Robotnik is 100 times better.

I always thought of Robotnik as a villian who you see as high, mighty, and powerful, but when you twart his evil scheme, destroy his machines, and bring him down to your level, he's nothing but a fat cowardly man. This is emphasized by how Eggman always runs away with his tail between his legs when Sonic defeats him.

Unfortunately, the recent writers for the series only see the latter part of the character, making him into a fairly un-intimidating villian.

I kind of liked the Sonic Adventure approach the name "Eggman" where Eggman was something the heroes called him. They abandoned this in later games. A shame because it would have deepened the characters and possibly given rise to a running gag.

Okay, here we go... again...

Here, the very definition of egg: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/egg

See the part that says "The round or oval"? Now, we all know that eggs can be spherical or oblat spheroid... so when described here why do they leave spherical out and use "round" but leave "oval" in if in fact round does not describe the generic "egg" shape to which eggman is attributed? He is clearly not the spherical shaped egg, he is the oblate spheroid shaped egg.

As I have said before, I will place my bets with Stephen Fry.

Robotnik. Because, Robotnik is polish for 'worker' and lets face it he's a Soviet style communist.
He wants to rob all the woodland creation of their agency by turning them into machines.
He creates gigantic industrial complexes.
He pollutes, not because he doesn't realise the damage he is doing, but because it is necessary to achieve his ends.
He will not tolerate any resistance to or subversion of his plans.
He wears a red shirt.
Finally, the reason he wants the chaos emeralds is to power his weapons of mass destruction.

Although, he did create casino and carnival zones, what was that all about??

Robotnik all the way.

Eggman doesn't sound even vaguely villainous, whereas Robotnik sounds like someone who could pull off the dastardly vibe.
