I want to go out on a limb and say this: Mankind will always disagree with one another. Peace can only be gained through an agreement of similar ideas between different peoples. Now how can such a philosophical topic lead to gaming?
Well I'll tell you. I enjoy a good debate (as long as it doesn't revert to the pitiful childish comments or personal attacks towards my faith, family, and loved ones, which can be found on XBLA and any forum on the third rock from the sun). I also enjoy discussing topics concerning video gaming, which is why I am a fellow Escapist. However, that doesn't mean that I despise certain debates/arguments. It never fails to go on a forum and see illogical and ridiculous debates.
These debates can range from the hatred to a certain game, distaste towards a video game character, console war, or the mind-numbingly ridiculous 'war' between 'hardcore' and 'casual' gamers.
Now will these debates ever end? Not a Chance in Hell. Every human being is born inherently evil, we are stubborn creatures, and ever since Adam & Eve decided to ignore the 'DO NOT EAT' sign on the Tree of Good & Evil we have placed common sense in the farthest recesses of our minds. Certain debates will never just do the world a favor and DIE. The same goes for video game debates.
However, seeing as its Christmas let's all pretend that the world is much more fairer place and we have the power to KILL a video game debate. It will never appear in forums, websites, shows, whatever.
If one of the options is not in the poll then please leave your choice and pull that lever to open the fiery pits of Hell.
I will start. The debate of 'Hardcore' and 'Casual' gamers. How childishly stupid can one get? Some even call this a 'WAR'....Are you an idiot? This is no WAR, everyone is a gamer. What classifies a 'hardcore' from a 'casual'? There is no definition engraved in stone that defines a 'hardcore' gamer nor one for a 'casual' gamer. The label is a joke to be had. Still the label of 'hardcore' somehow endows someone the authority to be an egotistical twat, while the casual gamer is seen as either a silver-haired retirement home resident or a soccer mom-type character. Labeling a game for its 'hardcore' fanbase is strictly opinionated and nothing more than blog/thread bitching. Stop being fanboys, because your beloved industries don't give a damn about you. Its sad, pathetic, and VERY annoying. Grow up.
'Hardcore' gamers: You were once 'new' to the gaming world too. You should welcome these 'casual' gamers. Why? Because these soccer moms, retirement residences, and children that you scoff at won't be so easily tricked by the politicians that condemn the industry claiming it promotes violence when they see how video games not only be entertaining, but educational, physically active, artistic, or as compelling as a form of literature.
'Casual' gamers: We need you. Don't assume that 'hardcore' gamers are those 30-yr old virgins living in their parents' basement. They only fear that video game industry will be changed forever to something that they are not comfortable with. They think your presence is the cause for industries to make games like Wii Music, the Imagine series, unoriginal and mediocre FPS #102345235, etc. Your not there to destroy the industry you just wanna play games like the 'hardcore' gamers. Let's just learn to be nicer to one another and stop with this idiotic debate.
The 'WAR' must end. Its time we called a cease-fire. We are all gamers and we should join forces to battle the enemies of propaganda and ignorance by the media towards its portrayal of video game culture, which is just as influential as the music or movie industry.
That is all.
(Author's Note: Yes this is a long thread. Yes this is an old topic. Yes this has been touched upon countless times. Yes it is bitching, but so are these debates. Yes this has been done before. Yes I know how much ignorant messages I'm going to receive from people. Yes this seems boring. Again if you want to go off-topic and send me a message then please do so and not on the thread itself. Posting: "I've had it with these Mutha F*cking snakes on this Mutha F*cking plane! /thread" automatically receives the minimal 3 golf claps for another unoriginal post just like this thread itself. *snare drum* That is all and have a Merry Christmas.)
Oh Skully Boy, the Flames, the Flames are coming...
