I know this is a bit early, but it seems an idea to look ahead to next year, even with just some preliminary ideas, for Escapism UK 2010. And the first thing we need to figure out is location.

Looking at the thoughts in the other threads it seems that a lot of people are rooting for the next one to be somewhere up North, and I certainly agree that it would be unfair to be doing it constantly in the South, thus finanicially discriminating against those coming from the North/Scotland, and I also think that it should probably be somewhere other than London for a bit of variety in our activities.

Therefore I have created this poll to try and decide where we should have the next big UK Escapist meet. I've picked cities at roughly the same interval down the spine of England, or I've seen suggested, but if you have any other suggestions please say so.

I personally would be very happy to be involved in the organisation, as I feel I kind of have a point to prove after this year, and also I want to get some experience in organising big events, especially in this particular circumstance where we can only really contact each other on here. For me, personally, I'd choose Oxford, because I know the place well, plus I already have a couple of comprehensive plans for a 3 day weekend, if it is chosen :D

However, I am perfectly happy to help organise the event wherever it may be taking place, though obviously having someone who lives near or knows the area would be a much better judge of what to do/where to stay etc.

Okay, well I don't think we need to worry over this now, I mean we only thought up this year's in April.
I'm loving the enthusiasm though and we'll give you a shout around New Year sometime about this when we start discussing where to hold it.

Hope to see you in 2010.

Well, I'd say one place that's positively missing out is the heart of the country, and not that horrible fake heart with the difficult languages but sunny Leicester.

Home of Walkers Crisps, Pork Pies and so much more.

Given there's also a role playing convention being held there, that means we could catch that as well as the usual Escapist antics?

Birmingham is the only one of those I'd be likely to manage getting to. Shrewsbury is also a nice place with a surprising amount of activities as well as a hostel. :D

What is this escapism exactly?

Just meeting up and hanging out?
That and doing stuff. This is what we did this year [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.127459]

But we're trying to stop this because it's far too early to plan for this, we were thinking more along the lines of tinking about it in 2010.

We can't go to Glasgow! We'll get mugged and possibly raped...
You think its worse than london?
It's this thing called a joke Colin, you tend to do a lot of them. Well once in a while, I even make one....
Actually, my issue with Glasgow is it'd cost me a bomb to get there, and would be pretty awkward for travelling. I can get to Edinburgh for £40 return though...

I'd like one in Scotland, but I'd be happy with anywhere in the North of England :D and Cpt was right, too early to be thinking about this one >.>

...A few questions;

1) Could it be better to plan it closer to the time?

2) Could you really make such a decision based on a poll?

3) Did you just pick 8 Uk cities at random?

4) Why no 'other' option?

5) Did you consider cities that were built up around Universities? (As they tend to be based more towards people around the age of students etc)

Someone would have to meet me at the bus station and make sure I caught the right bus, I'm not good with public transport...
