We can't go to Glasgow! We'll get mugged and possibly raped...
You think its worse than london?
It's this thing called a joke Colin, you tend to do a lot of them. Well once in a while, I even make one....
Actually, my issue with Glasgow is it'd cost me a bomb to get there, and would be pretty awkward for travelling. I can get to Edinburgh for £40 return though...
then its like a £5 to glasgow.
Someone would have to meet me at the bus station and make sure I caught the right bus, I'm not good with public transport...
There are direct trains labelled 'Glasgow'

Travelling that far by train would cost me over £100. I'd go by bus overnight. And I hate buses.... *shudders*

...A few questions;

1) Could it be better to plan it closer to the time?

2) Could you really make such a decision based on a poll?

3) Did you just pick 8 Uk cities at random?

4) Why no 'other' option?

5) Did you consider cities that were built up around Universities? (As they tend to be based more towards people around the age of students etc)
A few answers:
1. Yes, that's why there's a group of us saying we'll start thinking about this in 2010.
2. No, but we're definately moving it further North than London.
3. I don't know, it looks like it.
4. I don't know, ask Gooble.
5. I'm not sure but our main priority is transport links and how easy it is for the majority people to get there.

Now, can we please put this idea to bed until January at the earliest?

There is a train from Edinburgh to Glasgow.
Then that would mean getting from the bus station to the train station, which would definitely get me lost.

It's actually pretty simple.

1. Yeah, the point of this was people were beginning to discuss where to have the next one in a couple of threads to do with EUK '09, so it seemed logical to me to have somewhere for that discussion. I agree that it is way too early to get anywhere past that stage, but at least it will give people an opportunity to research what there is to do in that city, where to stay etc., so that we are better prepared for when the proper planning starts in 2010.

2. To be honest, probably not, but at least it gives us an idea of which general region we want to do it, and we can assess the practicalities of the most popular destinations from the poll, and make a decision/shortlist after that.

3. No, they're all cities at relatively equal intervals down the spine of England.

4. I honestly didn't think of that, if this thread fails (which seems a high likelihood at the moment) I'll put one in the one I do much nearer the actual time :D

5. That is an excellent idea, same answer as 4.

London. It's the easiest to get to as well as pretty central.
London! Easy to get to!? Central!? I'd go for Birmingham. It's more Geographically central (If my memory serves my right.), and doesn't suffer from the traffic hell that London does.

Manchester
It has a nearby airport for those traveling a bit. It's north enough for those up north but not too north for those down south. It's much cheaper to stay there (and get a pint there) than London.

Not literally central in geographic terms - central for the majority of people attending and though I'll give you that Birmingham is probably the better option regarding traffic I was thinking about the immense amount of public transport to and from.

Well, I'd say one place that's positively missing out is the heart of the country, and not that horrible fake heart with the difficult languages but sunny Leicester.

Home of Walkers Crisps, Pork Pies and so much more.

Given there's also a role playing convention being held there, that means we could catch that as well as the usual Escapist antics?
I agree with Root! Also because I live near...

London is only central for the majority of people attending because only people who can get to London easily, or are prepared to go to London will attend. It's a bit of a Catch-22 situation.

Personally the only reason I didn't come to this years meet up was because its was held in London, which is not only a long & expensive journey for me, but a try-hard hell-hole of a city to boot.

I think Manchester would be a good place to go, it has good national transport links and a good public transport infrastructure (above ground), it's a good friendly place to go out in, and best of all it's not London.

One problem I see with the cities listed in the poll, is that while them may all be at relatively equal intervals down the spine of England, not many of them are desirable place to go for a night out.

I can see the locations being hotly disputed, because everyone has their own opinions of different cities based on their own experiences, and there are no real facts but only opinions.
