In the current generation there are no winners. Sure some consoles might be outselling others but sales don't always equal profit. When it was released the PS3 cost $800ish to produce, sold for a $200 loss and cost sony the sale of a $1000 dollar blu-ray player.
When it was released the 360 was produced for $430ish per unit and sold for $400. Microsoft would have easily made this loss back on games except for one factor... The red ring of death. Every time a red ring happens Microsoft is legally obligated to fix it. Each one of these fixes costs them another 360.
Lastly Nintendo. The Wii at its release cost the big N $200ish per unit to produce. This means that they were the only one with a profit from console sales alone. Nintendo is also the only company not to drop the price of their system due to rather high sales. However, Nintendo has decided to put more focus on an easily amused casual audience that has been neglected by its competitors. This has alienated the "Hardcore gaming" audience driving them to Microsoft and sony and casual gamers buy like one $20 game every three months.
So what do you think? Agree? disagree? Just feel like running your mouth off? Gimme your two cents.
P.S. All these figures are relatively legit I just cannot remember where they came from, if you have links proving or disproving my figures please post them.
