I'll give you an outline... In the new release of sims 3: pets, which is going to come out in OCTOBER, you can now have the thing EVERYONE wanted back in sims and sims 2; HORSES! now you can have a horse farm! From getting dogs to help your sim get an ancient relic from the ground, teaching your cat to hunt, or taming a horse, theres going to be a LOT of possibilities. Now, you have control over the BIGGER pets, and you CUSTOMIZE it anyway you want. Also, your pets can have personalities, like clueless, genius, aggresive, digger... so are YOU excited?

... Why would I be? It's SIMS, and it's another overpriced expansion. Why would ANYONE be excited? They released an IKEA expansion, dammit!
It's not even the best Sims game there is, and why would anyone care about horses? What "everyone" has wanted this?!

Who gives a crap about The Sims 3 when Gears of fucking War 3 comes out next week?

In other words; no, not really.

Too many expansions, I gave up after outdoor living. The game is my one guilty gaming pleasure, my vice, but it's been when played modded. And i know what i'm doing when it comes to modding, and with the sims 3 so many conflicts through windows, updates and sims patches I find that i get a great neighborhood going, that gets a generation or two in, then somethign changes the game renders itself unplayable and i have to start all over. I'm just done with the sims. After a while i just feel like im being ripped off.. sooo many damn expansions.

The expansions are way over-priced, but I want it and may get it by other means. I haven't played any Sims or Sims 2 expansions, so I don't have the I'm-buying-this-expansion-again feeling. That said, I'm not too excited. The Sims 3 is fun, but other games -cough- Rage and Skyrim -cough- are taking that all up.

They still make The Sims? How quaint.
Yes they do. most of it is kinda improved versions of it. Like how theres sim 1: vacation and sims 3: World Adventures and sims 2: Pets and now sims 3: pets. they kinda do need to make diff ones. the only one i'm aware of in the sims 3 (other than the STUFF packs) thats different from the Sims 1 and sims 2 series is sims 3: ambitions. They need something new, like sims 3: Big city (I came up with it)

You're the reason I don't play Gears of War.

OT: I'm kind of weird about the whole thing. I enjoy the sims, it's an incredible time waster and people can't debate the modding community. There is so much good user-made content out there. What annoys me about the Sims is that EA are like "Oh hey, here's something we could have released on the base game but instead, we're going to charge you $40 for an 'expansion.'" The entire thing smacks of greed. I shouldn't be surprised from EA by this time anyway.

I was overstating my point on purpose, a reaction you'd expect when it's the most preordered game on the 360. This thread is like announcing to everyone that another Band Hero game comes out on the same day as Skyrim. And there's nothing wrong with the GoW fanbase. If you've played online then you'd discover that we're more mature than those playing CoD or Halo.

Surprised? So was I, at first.

Okay, I'll admit it, I'm looking forward to Pets just a bit. It's the only expansion that seems to add enough to the game to warrant the price tag.

I don't even understand why I enjoy the Sims, it's not my usual kind of game at all. Maybe there's some kind of gravitational pull with ladyparts and Sims games that I just can't fight.

... or I like playing pretty pretty dress-up. Either way, my younger sister is going to find her game mysteriously missing.

I actually think "The Sims" was a brilliant sandbox series with almost limitless potential. Potential that has been largely squandered since its inception. The game play has failed to evolve, and if anything has become even more rudimentary and aimless as the scarcely tangible challenges the first title presented have been largely jettisoned as the series has marched along. It's in sore need of an aggressive re-imagining at this point.

This is of course to say nothing of EA's absolutely shameless bilking of the fans with one outrageously overpriced expansion after another, each with less content than the last, and their absolutely risible "item packs".

In short, I like the Sims. I want to see more Sims. I want to see BETTER Sims. I'm not a gaming elitist, and I don't think the release of the latest 3D man-shoot sequel renders the best-selling PC franchise of all time somehow moot. But I think EA is running the series into the ground with stagnation and greed, and getting a horse for my Sims isn't likely to magically transform that opinion.

Not that I expect EA to do anything to turn it around. Fucking up legendary franchises is sort of their raison d'être.

Honestly this expansion will be the make or break point for me with the Sims 3. I enjoy some of the major changes they made from the Sims 2, but honestly 3 hasn't captivated me like the second game did.

If pets doesn't live up to my expectations I'm pretty sure I'm done with it. Way too much of a hassle and in full honesty the only reason I've bothered making the game work is because I was looking forward to the Pets expansion.

There are many things wrong, but that's another topic.

What makes you think that GoW is more important game than the Sims? Although, I must thank you, you gave me another topic for my blog.
