OT : Fallout. Because of the setting.
Sorry, I was talking more Fallout 3 and a bit New vegas with the story comment. Haven't played Fallout 1/2 yet.
I hope your only talking about Fallout 3 there. My vote goes to Fallout
You should be more precise then. Fallout franchise consists of a few games, developed by different studios/corporations.

I encourage you to try F1/F2 - they aren't good looking in comparison to modern standards, but they feature both scenario and gameplay very different to F3/F:NV.

Fallout 3 was the first Bethesda game that I found accessible. Now, Fallout 3, NV, and Skyrim are some of my favorite games ever.

TES - I find post apocalyptic to be a dull environment to explore. I find the gameplay mechanics in Fallout to be poorly handled and boring. TES has a lot of problems as well, but the atmosphere and fantasy content inherently make it more appealing to me.

Fallout, because you can either play as a good guy, a bad guy, a goodie two-shoes, a monster, a magnificent bastard or a lucky dumbass.

In The Elder Scrolls, you just play a thing with no personality.

Oh, and TES doesn't have Craig Boone or Fisto the Robot.

Based purely on eclectic style, Fallout has the lead over The Elder Scrolls.

Fallout already had a strong start at its roots by being a retro-futuristic imagining of the post-apocalyptic world as envisioned by 1950s scifi writers. Just count the number of layers of fantasy have to be placed over reality in order to reach Fallout's ridiculous world.

First you have to place yourself in the world of the 1950s mindset. Then, trapping yourself within that limited understanding of social change and technological advancement, you have to imagine the future. Then you have to take that imagined future and subject it to nuclear holocaust. Then you have to reconstruct a game world from the aftermath.

In short, Fallout blows my mind.

The Elder Scrolls is already hobbled by the stigma of automatically being compared to the fantasy genre as asserted by Tolkien (and his crazy, crazy fans). While TES does excel at distancing itself from many Tolkien-based tropes (just play Morrowind and you will notice the many distinctions) it is still not as inventive as Fallout.

I don't feel like comparing the gameplay aspects of the respective games.

So I wont. In fact, I'm going to stop typing mid sen-

Although I love both, I have to say it's TES for me. Especially after that broken, maddening New Vegas (You had so much potential...I WANTED TO LOVE YOU DAMMIT!) But what it comes down to is that I love fantasy. And Skyrim. (Strokes game box)
I feel like I'm the minority for this but, I really liked New Vegas. I thought, apart from the bugs, it was an amazing game.
Your not, i liked it more too. Despite more bugs. It felt a little weirder than 3, which is a good thing :D

Both! I remember back in the 90's when one of my college buddies introduced me to Daggerfall. I was blown away by the open world aspect. 15 years later I still get blown away by the freedom that Bethesda gives you in their games. It doesn't matter if it's adventuring in Tamriel with sword in hand, or hunting mutants in a post apocalyptic America. I have always had a blast with these games, and I always tend to get my moneys worth out of em.

I prefer Fallout.

I really take sci-fi over fantasy any day. Fantasy: Why are you so not fantastical? Most sci-fi works bother to create new races that I can get to know. Even if they are heavily inspired by something else, I just like experiencing something new. I like to let creative people create things.

Dammit. I just participated in a versus thread.

I prefer TES for its setting and lore. Fallout just isn't a universe I want to spend any time in regardless of how good the games are.

Morrowind and Fallout 3 are both games I've spent a lot of time playing and enjoying.

Can't say I enjoyed FO3 for the story though...neither can I say I enjoyed Morrowind for the combat.

I didn't really get into Fallout until Fallout 3, so I can't say anything about the previous games. But, I do prefer Fallout 3 and NV to Oblivion. I feel the same way about Skyrim as I did Oblivion, it is fun, but it can get old very fast. I found myself constantly playing Fallout 3, even after I leveled my character to the max. I don't find myself doing the same thing in Skyrim, I log onto it sometimes, but I only play for like an hour, then I log off to play some Battlefield.
