I know it's likely already been said, but here goes:

Zombies can't run, because running/strenuous exercise damages the muscles slightly. This is most seen when athletes over-train for a competition, and end up tearing a muscle. The reason that we can run is because the muscle damage is repaired fairly quickly, so we're fine. Zombies are dead, so there is no repairing of cells. This means that once a zombie runs and tears it's muscles, it's stuck like that.

Because people think that since their minds are dead their bodies are slower? I don't know I think fast zombies can be really cool

I prefer the slow and mindless zombies, more realistic really, the brain has been reset, completely, running would only be known to a select few.

I don't understand why you only give us 2 options of either hate or not. I don't "hate" fast zombies, but I just think that they don't make sense.

Zombies by definition are the living dead, meaning that their flesh and bones won't be what they used to be, which can include decomposition and rot. It would make more sense (if zombies were real) for them to be slow lurching bodies rather than psycho crazy marathon runners. It's easy for someone to say "oh but a virus could improve their movement!" - no. Because someone that has died and come back to life as a zombie would still have the same, if not worse, physical capabilities or handicaps that they had when they were alive.

ok, there r no zombies in 28 days later just people infected with a virus that makes them go stark fucking crazy. they are not dead. they don't eat people, they just do whatever they can to kill any un-infected.
now thats out of the way, i do hate fast zombies. it is impossible because their musucles and ligamants would be rotting.

Rant Done.

No, I don't hate fast zombies. In video games, they offer a decent challenge. As for the movies, that just makes good theater.
true. but they would be a ***** when the zombie apocalypse comes around.
Hey, look on the bright side. The faster they go, the slower they realize that a shovel's right in their face.

yes, exactly what he said!

Everytime you create a poll without a mandatory third option, god kills a kitten. Please think of the kittens.

I think zombies being able to run is a good thing, just because when they're the lurching about kind, they seem somewhat unthreatening since you could out-run them by going out for a jog. The 28 Days Later/Left 4 Dead kind seem like more of a threat because they're harder to out-run unless you have a vehicle.

The fast zombies create better action scenes/frantic gameplay. And slow zombies spoil the suspense since the heroes can just walk off.

I don't hate fast zombies.. or "infected". But i prefer the looming doom of ever growing armies of lumbering undead.

It is a different kind of horror-feeling. A better one.

If I had to pick which undead cannibal type I would choose to have chase me around my home whist wearing a halter top, I'd have to say slow. Yes, I hate fast zombies like I hate thugtards with shooting accuracy. Thankfully, neither exist.

I feel that slow zombies get greater acclaim because most zombie hunter types see them as an opportunity to, with no amount of BS or cowardice, actually believe themselves willing to confront such a monster in real life. The idea of casually waltzing up to a festering slouch of death with the confidence of James Bond while deciding which weapon will go with witty-post-kill catch phrase du jour is fun to imagine. However, fast zombies would get calls of "not fair" and "do over" from nine-iron wielding nerd warriors, unless of course one were safely encased in a mall with infinite supplies and Ving Rhames.

This man here gets me.
And on that note, alot of you say "Oh, but slow zombies are so slow, I can just jog away from them and I'm fine waah"

I don't know about you, but I'm not an athlete. I also seriously doubt that most of you are. I jog once or twice a week, and at my current ability I can go maybe a maximum of 5-6 km, or 20 minutes, before I start to strain my legs. Think this through peoples!

Let's say that you live in an urban area. A big town. How many peoples live there? 1k? 10k? 50k? When the infection strikes, you can bet your ass on that at least half of the inhabitants will be turned or infected in the first three to four days, due to confusion, fear, lack of information and/or sheer stupidity. Now think about the size of the city. The zombies will be everywhere in the inner city. They will be more sparse in the suburbs and outwards, but they'll always be too close for comfort. I live in the inner parts of stockholm. If the zombies strikes while I am in the city, I am positively fucked. I can make it maybe half way out of the city, at most, before I get exhausted. The zombies don't even GET exhausted. They'll just keep coming.

The roads will be clogged with peoples trying to escape by car, so that's a no-no. I could go by bike, but that only triples my distance if I'm lucky and well rested when I set out.

wasn't 28 days later just some super mutation of Rabies?
I thin krunning Zombies are good, but when you see some cprpse sprinting towards you in mid to late stages of necrosis...well that dosn't make sense to me the muscles would be SHOT.

The monsters from 28 days later did not eat brains, are not animated corpses and do not shamble.
.............
But they are zombies if you ask me.

In films, they provide for more drama and suspense. Take the opening house scene from 28 weeks later. Everyone in that house could of easily survived, as long as they jogged over to the boat and malleted anything that came too close with the crowbar.

But ideally I prefer them slow, much easier to take them down that way. Just stand in the open with a long blunt object (Crowbar FTW!) and cave some skulls in. You wont be able to keep it up for long, but for a small group its doable.
