First of all, I just wanna say I used the search bar very thoroughly, but couldn't find any thread like this. I apoligise if there is.
Now, the question is pretty straight-forward, who was the character you liked the best in Baldur's Gate (both of them, that is)? Personally I would say Imoen, I dunno why, but she just struck a certain chord with me. Oh and Xzar and Montaron were priceless, as was Xan,khalid and minsc. I realize that's a lot of character's, but I guess that's one of the good points of the game, having likable characters and all.
While I don't have any specific reasons or examples, you are free to add them as you wish. :)
P.S. - Sorry if the poll doesn't have your favorite character

Edit: This is my first topic, so please go easy on me
Edit 2: Oops ! I didn't know favorites/list/vs-threads were frowned upon! Sorry about this, I hope I'm not invoking moderator wrath or anything

I've never played Baldur's Gate. I just came over from your other post in order to give this thread some hits. You're welcome.

Aww, thanks! *gives a cookie*
One of the reasons I made this thread you see, was 'cause I noticed Baldur's Gate was pretty popular here, and I like the game and I want to be more "involved" with the community, so I guess you see how that fits together. Well, I'm rambling, sorry

Xzar and Montaron really are an amazingly well thought off duo.

"Montaron, you are so aggravating!"

Minsc is the obvious answer for obvious reasons and will win this poll without competition.

As for my party setup, I usually go with Minsc (best melee NPC) + Dynaheir (second best mage NPC), Branwen (heal/buff bot) and Imoen (since dualing he into a mage is awesome). The final member depends on my character, but it's often Kivan, Coran (so I can Dual Imoen faster) or Ajantis.

Minsc/Boo. His comments about rangers and giant spacehamsters really made the game more joyful.

Oh and btw, excellent that you started a post about Baldurs Gate! Was just about to start one myself. Nice to know people still care about the old classics :)

I have yet to get into Baldur's gate. What ive done so far is recruit 2 people who i forgot, who almost immediately died, and left me and some other guy at the mercy of trying to stay in the inn, but can't because the party can't take on some dickhead guarding the door.

Im not gonna lie, i don't get it (yet).

Thanks for the hits and comments everybody, it means a lot to me ^^ I guessed Minsc was the most popular, and it seems I was right heh...but it's understandable, he and boo make a awesome team.

This would probably be my comment if you made a post about it instead of me XD 'cept with less ability to decide my favorite. Bioware has a thing of making awesome storylines and memorable characters.

Viconia. I can't say exactly why. There's a couple of things that would make me like her (I like clerics, exotics, and broken people) but I don't know why I would like her the best. She just has "it", and ironically seems the most human.
Second place is probably Jan, because I love all his stories, and turnips, and turnip stories (and his various quests, even though they're not turnip related ;) ), and also his voice acting.

I'm not a massive fan of Imoen (she's somewhere near the bottom of my list, in fact), but I love that she constantly wants to hear my stories about "trollops and plug-tails".

Honourable mentions to Mazzy (a halfling almost-Paladin!), Minsc (not that he needed one), Edwin ("I do not understand this 'mouse magic' that makes me do your bidding."), Xzar ("Stop touching meeee!") and finally Ajantis, who I didn't care for at first, but he won me over by shouting "Yeah!" a lot. After some time I just couldn't help but giggle at him. "Yeah!"... "Yeah!" indeed, silly man. :)

Most annoying character: Anomen. Great work if that's what they were going for. I guess he's not a bad person, but he and I just do not mix.

I quite like two of the new Enhanced Edition characters too, actually.

It really is not for everyone. If I wasn't so into D&D, and hadn't been there when the game first came out, I probably wouldn't "get it" either. But I do think they're a couple of brilliant games (two especially).

My favourite party (BG 2) always had Viconia as the cleric. I like her personality more than the other cleric/druid options.

My last playthrough (and favorite to date) was with an "evil" party consisting of Korgan, Viconia, Edwin along with my own evil character and yoshimo (who was replaced by Imoen) - the 6th character would rotate so I could do a few specific quests relating to them. Once ToB started I added Sarevok and didn't look back.

Baldur's gate has the best character writing I've ever seen in ANY GAME EVER!

I'm sorry but seriously you can't get better than Minsc, Xzar or Montaron. those three just make me keep coming back to BG :) . If you choose neutral you can even have all of them in your group which is good considering minsc "kicks butt for goodness" while Xzar and Montaron are ridiculously evil.

I love how if Xzar or montaron dies, the other one literally doesn't give a fuck.

"And the mad wizard falls!" - Montaron

"Montaron! I... I never loved you!" - Xzar

Fucking priceless. :3

Edwin, of course. If we're counting Baldur's Gate 2 probably my favourite combination is Mazzy and Korgan, just because of the extremely unexpected turn it takes. They're both also just fun characters that also happen to be quite useful in a group.

Incredibly difficult game is Baldur's gate. It requires a great amount of practice and quick saving RELIGIOUSLY! Since pretty much out the doors of Candlekeep (Starting town) anything could potentially kill you in a single hit.

WHY IS VICONIA NOT IN THE POLL!?

But, ahem.

BG1: Me, Jaheira, Khalid, Kivan, Viconia and Edwin
BG2: Me, Jaheira, Viconia, Mazzy, Korgan and Minsc

Honorable mentions go to Jan and Nalia. Hell, in 2, everyone except Anomen was a decent party member who you could be happy to have around, even Keldorn.

Why isn't Viconia on that list? She's my favorite character and love interest in Baldur's Gate.

I like to have Viconia, Minsc and Imoen in my party in both games. The other two depend on the main character. I also like to have the guy you get in Throne of Bhaal, who shall remain nameless.
