Poll: Favorite generic weapon

In any FPS you are almost always going to encounter a specific few weapons:
Pistol, Assault rifle, Sub-Machine-gun, Sniper rifle, Shotgun and Rocket launchers.
Which of these is your favorite?

i always end up with the generic assault rifle....

...mostly cause its good on nearly all distances...despite really long-range.

Maybe it's because I live in the south but I LOVE shotguns, especially the one from Bioshock.

I love the pistols, they're just so stylish!

Its just too bad they do crap-all damage.

Except the Urban Chaos handgun.
That can take heads off.

I also prefer melee as it is more personal however, no FPS ever has been able to properly balance combat knives and regular punches. The closest I have ever seen is the Halo series.

The classic devil may cry combo of swords and guns. Execpt with one difference, I like the guns to be effective, rather than the ones from Devil may cry. God they are weak.

Shotty FTW. I always love those things. Pity their ammo capacity is often somewhere between "crappy" and "non-existent".

For me it depends on the actual gun. There are guns i refer in each of these classes that i prefer over guns in the same class and other classes. E.G my favourite smg is the P90 but i would choose an SA80 over the P90. And i would choose an L96 over the SA80 but a P90 over the L96 etc.
i'm a very confusing person when it comes to guns xD

Okay, seriously now, my favourite is probably the shotgun since a lot of FPSes take place in locations where the shotgun will usually still be a viable option, especially if it has a somewhat realistic spread and can actually hit things more than a meter or two away from you.

I like the Assault Rifles too, though, since they're usually very multi-purpose in games.

Shotgun all the way. Up close and personal, all the way.

In many games I also like the pistol.

Assault rifle (Burst fire)

It's not as limited in range as a shotgun or a pistol.
It's not as time-consuming and boring as sniping.
It's not a recoil-horror like automatic fire.
And I won't even get into rocket- or grenade-launchers besides saying: Instant suicide.

That's why, in most games, this is the type of weapon I prefer.

Despite how hard i try, in every shooter i end up picking up a sniper, then staying out of sight.
I'm such a coward.

It might be a bit much, but I feel that revolver should be on this poll.

Other then that, I am usually happy with shotguns. They're simple, efficient, and it is always fun find their quirks in each game.
