Well, it's slightly better than what the actual moral is.

"Don't discount something simply because you can't explain how it works." There's hard evidence that Pinkie Pie's sense works; there's no hard evidence that religion works.

I thought faust said what I quoted earlier, but I guess not.
To me the unintended effect is still potent and dangerous. They were driving, throughout the whole episode, that believing in the power was incompatible with being empirical and scientific. Applejack said it at the start, Twilight Sparkle ridiculed the concept repeatedly, and, as the voice of reason on the show, that carries weight. So, consider the actual, highly impressionable audience it's for. The way they'll see it is that it's justifiable to believe things that a scientist will disagree with, even if it's one of faith.

Now, you have to dig far too deep to get the proper message out, and it's muddy, and the skim version is so far from its intent that it's actually dangerous.

You must always bear in mind the effect that ponies and morals have on children, and that the decision lies with the parents to what morals are instilled, and this can slip the wrong one in.

Do you guys have any respect for Recess? That was pretty good on the political philosophy side of things.
Yup. I thought it was going to be one of my favorites by far until the moral. Still a solid episode, but I can't endorse the message.

It's like, I really really want that changed, because picture the scenario:

Adult watches with kid
Adult, possessing greater insight into what's happening, gets the decent moral from it
Kid, getting skim version, gets the weird, unintended one
Adult assumes the kid got the same moral as he did, now, he's unintentionally swayed the child from what he wants the child to watch and believe, and that's a very bad idea.

I didn't have a favorite pony... Until the "Dragonshy" episode, when Pinkie Pie showed up in that ridiculous party costume (that I can't find a picture of for the life of me- and I went through the 210 tagged Pinkie_Pie pictures on Ponibooru, and then some) and at that moment I pretty much fell in love (figuratively, of course).

There really hasn't been a character like her before. Sure, there have been ones that were similar (hyperactive, super happy, etc.), but Pinkie Pie is the first one to not only be consistently funny, but not be obnoxious or annoying.

Second place has to go to Fluttershy for being the most adorable thing ever.
As for the rest, I'd say they're all pretty much tied. Honorable mention goes to Derpy Hooves, though, because no brony doesn't like Derpy.

In a free society, like ours, that is perfectly fine. People do it all the time, to varying degrees (of stupidity). Its part of what helps push scientific discovery and understanding forward (in addition to all the negative stuff most people seem to focus on instead).
I saw you arguing the right to free speech a few posts back, so how can you now say that it is morally wrong to tell kids its OK for someone to hold a belief that differs from another?

Don't get me wrong, here, I fully agree with you on all other accounts that the moral was handled pretty poorly. I cringed pretty much the moment the words "leap of faith" left Pinkie Pie's mouth.

I do think that telling kids its perfectly fine to believe in something until its proven wrong is OK. Saying otherwise would pretty much be like a slap in the face to all religions everywhere, and that's a pretty big demographic to alienate. I just wish they'd worded it better.

"And Pinkie's... whatever that is... failed"

I laughed so hard at that scene.

Children are under the wing of their parents with respect to free speech. This is why ratings exist. Stops are pulled at 18 years of age, at this point you are considered a full adult with full, developed rationality. Follow back the principles of free speech and you'll find rationality is a *necessity* to having it.

The idea of separating children from parents to prevent them from inheriting their ideals is toyed with in the utopic counter to Brave New World, written by Aldous Huxley also. Interesting idea, but clearly not a practical option. As such, we put responsibility on the parent. As a parent, you get to decide whether or not your child lives in an atheist world, a religious one, not TV folk. You can switch the channel, disallow them to watch it, but you can't force them once they're adults, since they can decide for themselves then on. This episode's moral can get to children, underhandedly, unintentionally, even when the parent is checking what they're watching (As it is their liberty to do so), and, as such, you've taken their choice from them.

Children and babies are an exception to the liberty rule because they will grow to have a functional rationality, while a pig will *never* have rationality, it is exempt from protections. MLPonies are protected also, just so you know.

Basically, put whatever you want in an adult's show, or one with very clear warnings (Where Portal 2 failed hard here, I have no problem with the man complaining about that since there was no warning anywhere at all, and to have a kid's game you must make clear the ideas and themes in the manual or something for my idea to work, People whiteknighting on free speech where it can't apply is annoying.)

In fact, the best solution would be a new tag, which says that there may be some themes that you can phone to find out or check online. The important thing is that it's available, not that it's seen. Because then, you can always say they did not do the research expected of them, and it is less obtrusive to the less-strict parents (Again, totally within their rights as to how strict it is, not yours nor my decision as long as it does not infringe other rights applied to said child)

I've done my thinking on it, no worries.

I love Pinkie Pie and her randomness. When I'm bored I'll start singing her songs to myself. My niece and nephew ask me to sing them all the time now. We're also a lot alike in the fact that when we're both totally happy we're crazy and when we're sad we're crazy in a different way. She's also so darn cute.

I just finished it,

When's season two?

How long do we reckon it will run for? Especially considering the broadened audience it managed to nab?

Actually just watched it for the first time last night.

And not going to lie, Fluttershy is just too adoreable.

Fluttershy appreciates your love. And becomes even more adorable in doing so.

Spider-Pony, hands down.

Yeah, I don't actually watch the show, I've just been looking for an excuse to use that image.
I guess if I had to choose, I'd go with Rainbow Dash just because that Sonic Rainboom is really easy to make Street Fighter Sonic Boom jokes with.

Does it make you feel better that for the first two pages she was holding her own against the others?
