This does not follow the teachings of the Ponies! All people are to be loved and tolerated, regardless of opinions. I am very disappointed to see one of the Herd has fallen from the true path.
STFU I'll pick favourites if I want to, Applebloom is terrible! As is the white Filly, that's how bad that character is, I can't even remember her name! Rarity's sister, I know that much.

Oh - and Down with episode 16!!!!!!!!1one (Seriously, I hate that episode *so* much, tried to slip "religion-logic" past us without me noticing straight away, and it was so deviously done!)

Having favorites is a natural consequence of the varieties of opinion. Insulting those who disagree is not. That "idiot" remark was not appropriate.

I know what episode you're talking about. I didn't like the moral either, and you know what? Neither did the creators. Hasbro forced them to put a moral in every episode even when they didn't want to.

I viewed it more as, "You won't always have the answers to everything, so when you don't have the answer to why something happens, don't deny it doesn't work." For instance, Psychics. The real ones have helped to solve crimes from half a world away, and I believe they do, regardless of how they did it.

IIRC Faust said the message in episode 15 was poorly worded. I might have the picture somewhere. The intended message is more along the lines of, "if there's all the evidence in the world that something does actually work that way, and you can't figure out why, you should still believe that it works that way", and not "believe what you can't explain because friends tell you to".

"Idiot" was in complete jest, could you not see I was joking at all? the whole "If you disagree with me it's only cause you're wrong" was a joke because we're talking about opinions, preaching to the choir here.

But, my faith was half-restored in the authors. Couldn't they instead have gone with the moral that "Even if something looks weird, or there are many coincidences, it doesn't mean it must be true, sometimes, a coincidence is a coincidence" < Though, they couldn't have made the episode like they did, since even rational people would think there has to be some merit to her "power" (Probability of the coincidences were so absolutely small it tends to 0)

So unless you're David Hume seeing over ten correctly predicted things in a row without one error is enough for me to believe it. I'm not taking leaps of faith, I'm using induction.

The way the episode was going I was hoping to see pinkie pie get untrue tremors, and the other ponies all ignoring them or dismissing them, and Sparkle putting it down to confirmation bias.

Now that would have been a cool episode, instead of this "You just GOTTA have faith!" moral which makes no sense at all!

Faust addressed this on her DA.

"if there's all the evidence in the world that something does actually work that way, and you can't figure out why, you should still believe that it works that way"

Something like that was the intended moral.

I would prefer to think of that moral as a way of teaching religious tolerance. Let's face it, in an increasingly secular society, it's possible that kids with atheist parents could pick on religious kids for believing in some 'mumbo-jumbo' they decline to follow. It's not 'believe in stuff even if there's no evidence', it's 'don't dismiss others' faith out of hand if you don't believe'.

Real Psychics do not exist and when JREF loses their million bucks (It's a huge "come at me bro", you think you are psychic? prove it!) to a psychic, I will believe they exist.

The JREF says they will give 1 million to anyone that can statistically prove they have paranormal powers. They have yet to get anyone past the preliminary "He might be onto something stage" and they've had it for thirty years.

One of Penn and Teller's first shows were to do with cold-reading psychics and psychic detectives, and their stats are really just guessing.

Unless you're the mentalist or Psych, because those guys aren't really psychic detectives :)

Still writing when you posted that,

To me, it still seems like, with this revised moral (Which is miles, miles better I'll have you know)

"if there's all the evidence in the world that something does actually work that way, and you can't figure out why, you should still believe that it works that way" < So just fucking give up and stop trying to explain it, it works, don't look for a reason.

Well, it's slightly better than what the actual moral is.

"Don't discount something simply because you can't explain how it works." There's hard evidence that Pinkie Pie's sense works; there's no hard evidence that religion works.

I thought faust said what I quoted earlier, but I guess not.

Of course, I just roll with the assumption that people assume that you can't be that clearly abrasive and stupid and remain on this forum for long. Genuine namecalling and dogmatism isn't rated highly by the mods.

I still got a problem with this episode, Sparkle didn't admit she was using her scientific techniques wrong, which, especially from a child's view, seems to weaken scientific evaluation's credibility as a whole

Man, MLP is some serious business.

Yeah, the episode isn't perfect but it wasn't intended to be as bad as it seems.

A little while ago I saw someone reply with "Fuck Ponies!". That was the entirety of their post. My faith in this community is not at its highest right now.

And, yeah, the whole episode bothers me too. Twilight gave up on that machine too quickly. She could have levitated and then dropped things with her magic so easily, but she instead tried to rely on random chance of things falling (INDOORS!). *rage*

Oh! While you're here.

They really are all great in their own quirky ways.
How Rarity's all fru-fru, but can hold her own when it counts and her whining is as hilarious as is adorable.
How Fluttershy's normally so quite that when she explodes it comes across as a huge surprise.
Pinkie Pie's complete and utter randomness and how happy she is.
How easily Twilight can freak out and how extreme it can be.
How Applejack seems like the bravest of the bunch but is normally the first to get spooked.
The tomboy nature of Rainbow Dash.

And that's just the main ponies.

To me the unintended effect is still potent and dangerous. They were driving, throughout the whole episode, that believing in the power was incompatible with being empirical and scientific. Applejack said it at the start, Twilight Sparkle ridiculed the concept repeatedly, and, as the voice of reason on the show, that carries weight. So, consider the actual, highly impressionable audience it's for. The way they'll see it is that it's justifiable to believe things that a scientist will disagree with, even if it's one of faith.

Now, you have to dig far too deep to get the proper message out, and it's muddy, and the skim version is so far from its intent that it's actually dangerous.

You must always bear in mind the effect that ponies and morals have on children, and that the decision lies with the parents to what morals are instilled, and this can slip the wrong one in.

Do you guys have any respect for Recess? That was pretty good on the political philosophy side of things.
