I never really understood the game, despite having played perhaps a half dozen matches. I guess I never really got into it. Still, if memory serves, I enjoyed the Scout the most. That or the Heavy. Eh.
I don't know your game experience, but it's one of the few shooters I can get my wife into: the play-style difference between characters really lets you play any way you want to. The only other shooters she really likes/liked is Battlefront (come back to me, oh battlefront) and Black Ops 2 before they changed Hardcore's respawn timer.

Heavy because of SANDVICH and this:

I'm also quite good at paving a path of destruction with the heavy.

I only started playing the game a week ago.

Being a medic or a pyro is incredibly easy, but after a little practice I prefer the Scout. So damn fun running around harassing everyone in a symmetrical game like King of the Hill or Double Payload. Also, hunting spies as a Scout is the most fun I've had with the game.

Hmm. I haven't played the game in a good while, but I'd say Scout or Sniper. I play Sniper with the Sydney Sleeper, which is a little different, I suppose. Demoknight is also fun for me, though, but I wouldn't say I'm all that great.

Gotta say, Sniper is easily my favorite. If you're able to find a decent sniping spot on a map that no one else thinks to look for snipers at, that decent spot just became a great spot. Plus the Hitman's Heatmaker, you can really just piss off the other team.

Snoipah. Not many can outsnipe me, and there's something gratifying about instantly killing or seriously injuring a person without much danger to yourself.

But I also play a lot of Spy, Demoman, and Pyro.

Soldier, both gameplay-wise (Beggar's Bazooka + Gunboats ftw, it's basically flight!) and personality-wise
Same here. I still need to get a hold of a Beggar's Bazooka.
I'll trade you my Beggar's Bazooka and a tour of duty ticket for a strange scattergun. I usually play scout and soldier, but I hate the Bazooka.

I like the Spy for many reasons. First of which is that it is fun to use the Cloak and Dagger to stalk players while playing slow ominous music in the background. Secondly his lines are the most assholish out there (off to see your mother comes to mind). Thirdly it's a sign of skill to play Spy effectively. Lastly nothing is funnier than shouting "surprise buttsecks" after backstabbing an unaware heavy.

My favourite class would have to be the Pyro as I just like the personality and the fact that you don?t need to be too precise with your aiming when using the flamethrower. Pyro-vision goggles also add to the experience (I know anyone can wear them but they suit the Pyro best)

The Soldier is a close second especially when the enemy have a lot of sentries. I also had a lot of fun using the Spy on the few occasions that I managed to fool people into thinking that I was on their team.

I tend to get bored playing the Engineer as once the sentry is set up I just seem to spend the rest of the match repairing it.

My favorite is the heavy. The big guy used to be pretty useful for me back in the first days. I instantly fell in love with his personality (remember when the classes still had those?), especially his relationship with Sasha.
Too bad the big guy got progressively worse after a while.

My most effective class, now, is probably the scout. Being able to jump around, land behind people's back and send them flying with a shotgun blast is a great recipe for destruction.

Heavy; yeah, you're vulnerable to snipers and spies, but there's something about striding forwards with a really big gun and drowning my enemies in a tidal wave of lead that just appeals to me. Plus I've fallen in love with that class after mowing down dozens of robots in Mann vs Machine more times than I care to count.

Ah, good times, good times...

I don't really understand why the Pyro and Demoman have been put in the same category, they're very different and will, as has been said, skew the poll.

Pretty hard to pick my favourite, as it will normally change each time I play, but I'd put my money on either the Demoman or Medic, I like being a team player.

I rotate between Scout, Soldier and Medic depending on how I feel, but Scout's always been my favourite. Whether I'm going for careful flanking and scattergunning snipers / medics, or force-a-naturin' people off of the map, or just going wild with the fish, it's the most fun I have in the game.

I'm glad to see it's such a spread. With 9 classes in this game, it's a wonder how balanced and fun it is trying every class out. Great job by Valve.

Pyro and Medic for me. The airblast being one of the most powerful attacks in the game. Once it's mastered you can do anything. The only thing that beats playing pyro for me is (I'm gonna get some hate here) BATTLE MEDIC! Once you master the Blutsauger's needle arc you become incredibly hard to kill and can do massive amounts of damage. Plus it's always fun when a medic humiliates the entire opposing team. I love my blutsauger.

I play Soldier and Medic most often since I find that being an soldier and raining crockets down from the sky never gets old, and Medic because normally when I join a game no one is playing medic (but of course the team has 5 snipers) so I decide to take the responsibility and help my team.

usually a pyro for multiple reasons

1) I fucking hate spies more than anything, if there was ever a sole purpose for me in gaming it is to destroy all spies.

2) I love droppin in on a group of 2-3 baddies and lighting the whole room ablaze then watch them squirrelishly run trying to get health, so satisfying.

3) I always use the detonator to annoy the piss out of snipers/long range weapon users, due to the alt fire explosion ability, even with them hiding behind cover, I get you :D

also, nothing greater than blowing up a demo/soldier than firing back at them their own ammo, i still remember getting a triple kill midair while eturning with a crit rocket fired at me, so glorious, my teammate medic took the intel ftw shortly afterwards.

Spy. Simply because my best and most enjoyable experiences have been with him (absolutely torturing enemy engies, sapping their stuff before dissolving into the shadows, only to return...)

Least favourite would be the scout. They're the only one I really can't get the hang of handling, and they're the most irritating buggers to fight with my two favourite classes (Spy & Sniper).
