Whats right and whats wrong, pedophiles usually have child pornography and other things on their computers, It is just a matter of time before they do act on their desires which is the problem. You are wrong in so many ways (which have already been sufficiently pointed out by Bloodstain, so I won't retread old ground). Definitely, the last point is the worst - saying they should be locked up without ever having harmed a child, just to prevent it from maybe happening. Your post is very ignorant.

I get the impression that it's supposed to be a sort of poetic justice.

How the heck do you even find out this kind of thing is exciting to you? I can kinda see how the law protects this. People go out hunt deer, killing them sometimes just for the joy of shooting them down. And a lot of people talk about how hurting any living thing is bad, a lot of people eat cows.
