I even wish that more RPG's would be brave enough to streamline travel by pretty much removing "random wandering" from the game (obviously, this wouldn't apply to games that are supposed to be open worlds).
ok, no. Just no. That idea is terrible and you should be publicly shamed for thinking it and posting it.

I do not want a straight corridor to pass itself off as a game. Those qualities can remain with Final Fantasy; keep it OUT of the mainstream, thanks.

Also what is with the japs and melodrama? It seems like every jrpg has shitty melodramatic crap all over the place. Why?
You know, I'm not sure why there's all the melodrama. It's in like, every FF game to some extent. I used to watch a lot of anime, and there are a lot of series that rely heavily on FF-esque melodrama in their narrative. Maybe it's just a Japanese thing. Like their version of a soap-opera, ya know? Does anyone have an opinion why there's so much melodrama in FF games, and in FF13 more specifically? (Don't go to the anime line of dialouge for long, if at all, please folks. I'd like to not get in any more trouble. :p)

I'll say it again.
Yes. Just yes.

Not everyone loves to wander around aimlessly for hours at a time simply to end up in exactly the same spot anyway. I don't typically care for dungeon crawls, nor do I enjoy sandbox RPG's ala Oblivion. Get to the point and keep the story flowing. Technically, Final Fantasy games aren't particularly bad about aimless wandering anyway, so I think 13 is a step in the right direction for that style of game.
Valid point, I think. I know when I showed the game to my buddy last night, (a notorious FF hater. Like straight up, hates FF games, except for 11), he was pretty taken. He's going to buy a PS3 copy on Monday. He liked the linear nature of it. He said, (I'm paraphrasing, as we were both kind of stoned, and I can remember the spirit, if not the letter of our dialogue), that he thought most FF games were only lending the sense of openness to their worlds anyway. The other games were really linear too. He made a specific reference to my favorite FF game, FF Tactics, and how that game's structure was very linear, and that the meat of the game was in the job class system, and the battles, sort of like 13. Does anyone else see the similarities between the focuses of FF Tactics, and FF 13? Not the games themselves necessarily, but the focuses on battles and character growth over wandering and side-questing.

It's as linear as they get and from what I've seen the entire game is all about going from point A to point B and killing everything in between. The battle system looks somewhat interesting but I can't get myself to like it because it's turn based. The somewhat cliche characters, boring story and terrible voice acting seal the deal for me however.
So you haven't actually played it?

But I'll amuse you anway:

Isn't almost every game about moving from point A to B and kill everything between? And when did linearity become inherently bad again? You know, besides those trends they make up at GT or somewhere without any logic.

Also, how is turn-based inherently bad again? Not that ATB, especially in FFXIII is exactly turn-based in the traditional sense of the word.

Bad voice acting, no. Sloppy translation and voice directing perhaps. It avoids being horrible however. As for clichéd characters... Well, they start as such, but keep getting better as the story progresses, which I believe is a perfectly good way to handle character development.
And when did linearity become inherently bad again? It became bad because this is not GoW! this is not a action/adventure game FF's are supposed to be RPG, at the very least you should not have to follow the story for 37 hours, I am just about to leave Pulse and since travel is inherntly stupid until you beat the final boss and then the Cie'th stone become teleport stone from what I hear I essentiely have to beat the the game to go back and then do all the hunt and small side quests, what I love about FF's is I DIDN'T have to follow the main storyline until I wanted to. I could power level, do side quests the best part of rpg's exploring the world and improving your party

I only went through the first 25 hours of this game because of my love and loyalty to every other FF, right now I am enjoying the game purely to find out what will happen, but i feel let down because I have to do the story to actually do what I want, and instead of power leveling I have to farm enemies as in run up and down the same hallway over and over.
i love the crystaium thingy though shit is getting every expensive 10,000 CP points to get an extra 150 HP, I don't see the point to the weapons leveling up, until I beat the final boss but we'll see.

I loved FF13, my only complaint was it needed a longer final cutscene to round things off.

I actually bothered to do the side stuff and platinum the game. That's a pretty damn good achievement for a game right there.

Joking aside, I did really enjoy the game. It isn't without it's flaws, but what game is these days.

Slightly off-topic, but, am I the only one who found the linearity on GoW games worse? Mind you, I've never found hack and slash games that fun. Too repetative. Guess it depends on what you enjoy.
