I fight in first person, wander around in third person
unless the corridors are REALLY small and cause the camera to bounce around, then it goes back to first

First person, it's how I played Morrowind (until waaay late in a couple playthroughs when my characters had enchanted fancy clothes on so they was actually worth looking at). I started with Morrowind sooo Oblivion I played in first person too, and thus we land at Skyrim. Switching to third kills the immersion for me, though I have done it on rare occasion as it seems to be easier to see the ground in the dark with the light source spell going (why it's so much crappier in first person is beyond me) and also I've done it to watch the sparklies when absorbing a dragon soul.

It's kinda funny, I always played EverQuest in first person until I got a horse for my cleric (eventually, whatever the heck expansion that was) and yet always played WoW in third person. The camera in third person for EQ was kinda wonky whereas WoW's third person camera almost seemed to be made for it (plus your character is something more to look at) so I guess that's why.

I play first person when sneaking about, shooting my bow or magic, and navigating closed space.

In big outdoor areas, wielding melee, I go melee. No point in having cool looking armor if you aren't gonna see it.

Can we please have a dedicated Skyrim thread or something? I love the game, but all these threads are kinda ridiculous. First person by the way.

I'll use first person pretty much all the time. I'll randomly go to 3rd if I'm slowly following someone or just running a long distance just to see what I look like once in a while.

Mostly third, but I switch to first if I need to look at stuff close-up (picking items off a table or shelf, etc) or I need to aim (magic, bows).
I'm exactly the same.

Would be nice if it went to first automatically when I nock an arrow.

I can not for my life understand the persons who play first person. What's the point for you guys to even make your character? You can just take some pre-made character since you never see yourself anyway (maybe that's what you do, I don't know). For me, a big part of a RPG is outfitting my character. And not only with gear that has the best stats but also the best look.

Also the first person view is annoying as hell, enemies constantly get out of sight. I only use FP view when I need to pick up small objects.

third for combat and really taking in the open world, and first for doing long distance shots and in tighter areas, also when lootin the hell out of small things.

so a good mix, but mostly third person.

first while fighting with archery because to be honest it awkward as hell in third when you walk in front of your enemy so you cannot see them.
third for melee because ti looks cool and sometimes when travelling.

I like seeing what my character looks like with his current gear, but it ruins the immersion.

It is hard watching someone else play a game.

I find it more immersive to play in first person because im looking out my charaters eyes seeing what he sees. in third person i feel like an outsider watching the events. I hate being forced into third for riding the horses in Skyrim and the finishing moves, it just breaks the immersion for me.

plus I hate how the third camera in games with forced third pov never stays exactly behind and in the same distance and height away. go under a bridge and the camera drops down then back up or something is behind and the camera goes to the side.... hate that shit.

First person for combat, but I like to see my rugged Imperial physique cross the Skyrim plains, snow falling on his manly shoulders...

sorry, what were we discussing?

First person. Bethesda has that odd thing from Morrowind where movement feels different in third person compared to first because of the animations. Also there's a delay between pressing a button and moving in third person on the PC, which makes it hard to play.

I also like the bobbing camera. :p

First. I am playing me and as I tend to play a sneaky one it helps me become one with my little killer.

Skyrim is my FPSS of the year. The only other game i have played that rocked the FPSS genre so hard was TF2.

I love my First Person Stabing Simulators. Bonus points if you stab people in the back.

Then i found a Wooden Mask that somehow magic'd the cowl back into existance when equipped...

I'm sure that mask is meant to be a quest item of some sort, the enchantment on it is just "it hums with unfamiliar energy" or something like that.

Fucked if i'm giving it up though, it's like i'm channeling Darth Revan by way of Conan the Barbarian
