I just started watching the show due to recommendation from my friends. Anime is nothing new to me, so naturally I enjoy watching it. The only major problem I see with it is the lame English voice acting, but thats probably because I normally do subs over dubs. Its pretty good so far, but what do you all think of the show?

The first or second anime? I enjoyed both, but for almost entirely different reasons.

I prefer the Manga over the Anime.

As with most Shonen, it's at its strongest early in the beginning. Then they pull a bunch of plot twists and conspiracy theories and I become severely uninterested in the whole ordeal.

I love it!
The manga is much better than the Anime.
And Brotherhood is better than the first series IMO.

I actually like the voices though.
Lust is just....ohhhh Lust...
And Armstrong had the perfect voice for his character.

"NOW, Bear witness to the style of Alchemy passed down through the Armstrong GENERATIONS as you read this in my voice!"

I'm sorry but FMA is one of the better/best dubbed Anime out there, I love the show but Ed and Al's squeaky Japanese girl voices just pull me from the story right into a the startling realization that I'm actually watching a cartoon.

The English dub does not do that to me.

It's a fantastic anime(both series) and my recommendation is you shouldn't deprive yourself of it.

Only watched Brotherhood. I really liked it though, too bad I had to watch most of it subbed though, I actually liked the English dub.

I liked the anime very much. Never read the manga, though (and don't plan to).

What is this 'Brotherhood' you people speak of...?

I loved it, got most of the way through it, but never finished watching it. My sister told me how it ended though and I thought it seemed like an alright ending...

No I didn't but for some reason I am just used to the English voices so I am sticking with them. Plus Armstrong sounds much manlier in English. And I am on the first series by the way, not Brotherhood, which I will watch when I have completed the first part. The series has already whooped Naruto's ass in my opinion, even though that isn't saying much XD(Shippuden especially) My favorite anime is One Piece, and I would also recommend it to all of you. Its a good show and I cannot wait to finish it.

The second series, it completely follows the manga instead of the original, or that's what I hear.

not an anime/manga fan, but I have watched both FMA series.

The first series? Actually liked it. It was different, kinda like Cowboy Bebop in that it was anime, but it didn't really feel like it.

Second one, that apparently all anime fans prefer? Did not like it. I dislike Japanese humor A LOT, and throwing it into an otherwise dark setting didn't mix. There were other things, too, but mostly I just enjoyed the plot of the first MUCH more than the second.

Also watched both dubbed, I liked all the voice actors. Watched a coupled subbed ones...yea, did not like.

Brotherhood was amazing. Great storytelling, philosophy, twists, and action. But seriously, this is an amazing series, and you will be upset, yet fulfilled when you watch the last episode. (The first anime of FMA ending so unsatisfactorily, I clearly remember feeling cheated.)

Two minor gripes:
1) Pacing during the first several episodes made the death of you-know-who feel less significant.
2) Some of the fight scenes towards the end seemed unnecessary and cheesy as they fell into typical anime tropes. (I'm mainly talking about the one with Sloth)

Oh, and once I finish this series, what would you recommend afterwards? I would be delighted to hear your opinions. (Well, not delighted, but somewhat interested :D)

I liked Brotherhood better than the original. I enjoyed the artwork more and liked how it didn't break off into filler.

The only thing I really didn't like was the end, but there's nothing I can do about it.

This reads like the manga came after the anime...?
And what does 'second series' mean? Is it a reboot/retread of the same story in a different way, or is it meant as a sequel to the anime? (This would be weird, considering how the movie wrapped things up fairly well.)

The first series follows the story of the manga up until half way.
Then it goes in its own direction.
Everything after the fight with Greed, including the movie, is
Non-cannon.

Brotherhood completely follows the manga all the way through, but its not a reboot of the first series.

While there are series I enjoy more, I consider it one of the best ways to get someone into anime short of Miyazaki. I also rather enjoyed the first anime, but didn't finish since I couldn't find the last 7 or so episodes.

Oh, and it was evidence of Funimation's awesome dubbing skills well before Baccano.
