Man I feel like I started a forest fire with this thread. I really was only asking for opinions out of curiosity.

Well, as you may or may have not heard, there are a few Furry escapists that have made themselves quite annoying over it.
People are just a little hypersensitive.

Still, why don't you share with us your personal definition of furry? I thought catgirls fit into the category! Now I'm confuz.

My personal definition? Well if you want to get detailed about it, I define it as a person who, as means of escapism from reality, imagines themselves as a non-human, anthropomorphic creature, and who finds comfort and centering when they are around others who share this form of escapism, and sometimes even bond over it, while also having great general interest in other anthropomorphic characters because they are not-human and thus, more interesting to them.

My short definition of it though, is a full grown adult make believing they are a cartoon animal character.

So... Yall're pretty much are a bunch of RPers? I don't get it though; why anthropomorphic animals? Does it effect role playing in any way, or is it just kinda like Redwall?

Yeah you could call it RPing I suppose. Mind you some would go as far as to say "I AM a Fox in a human body" or whatever.

I'm ashamed to admit though I am not every knowledgeable of Redwall so I couldn't make a comparison.

(redwall is a popular book series occuring in something similar to mideval times. the characters in the books are animals, tho who act like humans)

That's where I feel uncomfortable. Given my extreme fandom at times, there's never a point where I cross that line into actually believing in the fantasy.

Furries, to me at least, cross that boundary from "weird hobby" into "dangerous lifestyle".

If you want to dress up as things, like cosplaying, that's cool.
If you have to, then that's just a little ...creepy.

Originally, I was anti-furry, since I was just under the impression that the stuff you saw on the net was all that there was, but one of my friends is a furry, and she's introduced me to a fair few others while at conventions and just around town in general, so I've got a lot more accepting of them, although its still not something that attracts me and I don't think I'd ever get involved with it.

Yeah something like that. Like I said for people like me it's a form of escapism. I have a white fox alter ego, but I know I am in reality a human being. I don't feel the need to always wear a tail or make animal noises or whatever.

Because if that's the case, I can certainly relate...

Oh, then of course there's Usagi Yojimbo, the badass rabbit samurai who has his long ears tied on his head like a top knot.

Without the love of animals looking like humans we would never of had such wonderful characters such as Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Sonic the Hedgehog and Banjo Kazooie and a WIDE variety of video game characters allowing people to truly explore other worlds and people that are not human.

The video game industry itself would be fun if it wasn't for the inclusion of furry characters. They essentially laid a groundwork that allowed developers real free reign to create and explore new worlds and new possibilities because they were NOT human. While today's gamers may look at furry characters with dismay and homosexual accusations there is an extreme need for these characters to rise again showing how fun games can be when you are not a human being.

That said I greatly support the Dust:An Elysion Tale project. It makes a video game look like a video game again.

come to think of it, i guess Ratchet from the Ratchet and Clank videogame series (my favorite series of all time) might be considered a furry character,

Pretty much the whole point right there. Like I said, it's a means of escaping reality and the norm that some find enjoyable.

it scares me but mostly because they ruined part of my childhood with their fanfics and "art"

I tend to not mind the more normal ones though.

I personally play a furry type character sometimes during DnD or just add one in during my random story writing fits.. but... After visiting that guy with glasses and listening to "Fanfic Theater" where a man read aloud a fanfic involving gay love, foot fetish, fat fetish... between the TMNT AND GARGOYLES... I died inside... I like furries as characters, they can be an interesting twist to a story, or even be the topic (In one story I am writing, The newly formed Empire has decreed that all impure Half-Breeds be destroyed (Centaurs, Anthropromorphics, etc)) but some ... okay a lot of the visible furry community has taken things way too far.... I mean waaaaaaaaaay... I mean so far that trekky roleplayers and convention goers (and even the guy who proposed to his wife at a convention) are just weirded out...

It's the same thing with Anime. Anime suffers from the same issues as well (Woot repeating myself ) You have the anime fans, and the shoved down your throat (Usually gay, just like it's furry equivelant) "Art" and Fanfics that rape your love for said subject, or just turn off what little slight of "I give a shit" you had. I mean, I love when I type in anime, and get a picture of a nude girl who looks 8 years old, but the creator SWEARS shes 20 >.<

Regarding what the term "Furry" means, I always saw it as refering to people who identify strongly with a particular animal (or animals), with people who think they were an animal who was born as a human classing as Therianthropes. I have a tendancy to play as half animals in D&D as well, WhiteTiger. Which ones do you use the most? (I've nerfed a couple of races to get rid of the Level Adjustment in the past.)

Having played through the game Prototype, I can attest to not feeling very human at all after a couple of hours into the game. Alex Mercer might look human without having any of his powers active, but you can be pretty damn sure that he's not human at all.

Just use a flamethrower. And get 'em in a cave too so it robs them of oxygen in a small compacted area.
