Meh.

As long as they follow the same public decency laws as everyone else I really don't care.

At my fathers work there was a guy who was a furry, he was a pretty normal guy.

Like all geek fandom I find it fucked up.

But if that's how people want to enjoy themselves well that's cool with me, as long they don't use it for attention whoring.

As a pathetic roleplaying nerd, I've come across furries in two situations.

Firstly, at a big LARPing event I go to, the animal types are generally just variations on a theme of puss in boots, which doesn't really bother me either way. They're really no different to the kids in elf ears, or with prosthetic orc jaws glued to their faces.

Secondly, whilst tabletop roleplaying, a monumental twat I know decided we were going to play a game based on a furry comic book called Albedo. Although he tried at great length to assure us all that it "wasn't furry" and was actually some kind of sci-fi political serious bollocks, the more we saw of the rulebook and the printed maguffin, the more we all realised it was very sinister. The books were just rammed full of cartoons of "sexy" fox and cat chicks getting nailed and it just undermined whatever plot elements that were supposed to be essential to the game. That and it was wank.

Ever since, I decided that while dressing up as an animal for shits and giggles at a roleplay event is probably fine and harmless, anyone who actually considers using the term "furry" is probably making a statement about their bizarre sexual preferences.

I suppose it is inevitable that someone like me would make this topic, or someone already had, but I figured may as well. What is your opinion on the furry fandom?

Let me state that if you hate the fandom I don't blame you because frankly, despite and indeed sometimes because I am one, I hate the fandom myself because there are plenty of horribly retarded things about it just like any subculture, I.E. some of the terminology. I personally hate using the word "Fursona" to describe my anthropomorphic alter ego.
I've got nothing against them, as long as there's no "yiff" involved.

Indifferent. I don't see why furries cause so much rage and hatred. Yes, the 'sexaspect' is rather freaky, but so is a lot of other sex-stuff. As long as furries don't bother other people with their hobby lifestyle, let them be.

Having a good study of what I was dealing with I realised yes it kinda did turn me on, but thats when it hit; there already human. not entirely human, yes but human still. same human emotion, samilar skeletral structure, Replace them regular people and you'd get the same result, only they'd much more cuddlier. Take away the fur, ears and tail and theres your everyday porn.
This is pretty much the reason I don't mind the whole furry culture. If anything, it's rather interesting how their cliques work: but then again, I'm the sort of person who finds the lack of clocks in grocery stores and casinos to be fascinating.

There's also a point where I can enjoy the loli culture, but sometimes I put my foot down. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.115803]

It can be quite nice to look at. It's not a turn-on (well, most of the time it isn't), but I can still enjoy the occasional furry image. I kinda prefer if they're a bit risque, rather than downright pornographic.

If presented as a fetish, I treat it like every other strange sex fetish, like vore. If presented as people who fantasize about being different animals or half-animals, I treat it like a would a crossdresser, because it is like that, only interspecial.

It's true; how little clocks there are in my local shopping centre is ridiculous.

Anyway, as for the other bit, lemme get to reading that one.

Hmm, that makes me wonder... where did TheRedLucario go? I remember him making a topic on this. He was a frequent poster and now he is gone..

Uhhh.. my own opinion is that as long as it doesn't involve myself (or defames anyone i care about.) Then i am pretty ok with it.

Completely indifferent to your cause.
Although yelling "Burn it with fire!" towards anything is fun in it's own right. ^.^

I don't get why some people make such a big deal about it. People are allowed to like what they want to, right? And obviously the the idea of anthropomorphic animals is nothing new in media, so let people enjoy it if they want to.

Okay, here we go again.

Everyone seems puzzled as to where all the furry hate comes from - mainly because they need to, to borrow a rule, lurk moar. Basically, the furry fandom began with fetish porn, and revolves around fetish porn. Now, when this all got started a while ago, furries were in the obnoxious 'LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME I'M DIFFERENT AND LIKE WIERD STUFF BUT DON'T HATE ME I CAN DO WHAT I WANT LOOK AT ME' stage. Furry 'art' (read: porn) swamped the net, and what we're seeing now is still backlash from that. It's the 'mainstream' (as much as that word can ever apply when it includes places like 4chan) internet giving a firm middle finger to what was basically an invasion, and now it's become the norm.

Like it or not, protest it or not, the furry fandom is centred around porn. Always has, and from what I can see, always will be. As someone else said earlier, the anime fandom created hentai, but this time hentai created the furry fandom. It all evolved aound the porn. Nothing wrong with that, really, but it'd be a whole lot easier if furries would just come out and admit it. They're people with a fetish, like people who like crossdressing or BDSM. The reason the furry fetish gets so much hate is because of all the people clamouring that it's a lifestyle and freedom of expression and stop hating and oppression. Seriously, the cause of the problem is the people moaning about the problem itself.

And if you are one of the people who takes it to the extreme with a nice seperate 'fursona', then I'd advise sme counselling. I'm not making any judgements (no, seriously, I'm not; do what you want as long as it doesn't affect me), but it's plain to see that there are some issues around there to drive someone to imagine themselves as an anthropomorphic creature in what is basically a controlled, fetish-centred version of MPD.

So yeah. Furries are fetishists, and people would be absolutely fine with that if they would just stop bitching about being mainstream and just as normal as everything else. Calm down and be happy with your corner of the subculture.

I just looked up what "furries" are and no offense to you but all I feel towards it is "That's pretty gay."
