Okay, here we go again.
From what I gather, your saying that furries should accept they are now seen as filth from the rest of the internet. Thats like saying that because I play games I should accept that I'm a fat, deppresed, socially awkward waste of space. Just because there is one group of people, who take being a furry to the extreme (which is disgusting, and seriously messed up) dosen't mean all furries are sex crazied loonies.

If you want to pretend your an animal/human, fine by me. But if your going to get involved in, frankly, some nasty stuff, then it's your reputation. Just don't be surprised when I pull out the flamethrower.

I know a kid who is a furry and I try to keep my opinions to myself when hes around.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I LARP (Live Action Roleplay) and I play a gnoll (Dog on two legs with thumbs BTW) Does that make me a furry?

And even if the current furry subculture on the internet got its start from rule 34 of Disney's Robin Hood or Sonic the Hedgehog, it's certainly evolved past that point and become a true subculture distinct from the fetish that spawned it. If anything, it currently resembles a cross between therianthropy and the aforementioned rule 34, with most members probably falling right square in the middle.

Pardon me but what's rule 34?
Behold mere mortal the rules of the internet!!!
OOOOH MYYYYY GOOOOOD!

Man I feel like I started a forest fire with this thread. I really was only asking for opinions out of curiosity.
Well, as you may or may have not heard, there are a few Furry escapists that have made themselves quite annoying over it.
People are just a little hypersensitive.

Still, why don't you share with us your personal definition of furry? I thought catgirls fit into the category! Now I'm confuz.
My personal definition? Well if you want to get detailed about it, I define it as a person who, as means of escapism from reality, imagines themselves as a non-human, anthropomorphic creature, and who finds comfort and centering when they are around others who share this form of escapism, and sometimes even bond over it, while also having great general interest in other anthropomorphic characters because they are not-human and thus, more interesting to them.

My short definition of it though, is a full grown adult make believing they are a cartoon animal character.

DAMN.... and i thought i was weird.

ok my opinions are kinda mixed here, ive always felt a strong conection to 'the animal within' so i can kinda see why people my want to express that altho for me i have no need to dress up to do it, its more a emotional thing and spiritual thing. ive studied a couple of the animal forms of kung fu and it helped to get intune with how the animal might think and how they move - i did this by watching nature vids and documentories. As regareds u lot dressing up in fur suits and shagging.. well if mr crowly was still around hed have a bloody feild day with that! I can definately see how there could be a connection to ideas like animal guides and even lycanthropy in the idea behind furies but to be honest i think its kinda strange.(not necesarily in a bad way.. just odd) I like bunny girls, I like cat girls, ive dated a couple of real bitches - but i dont think id like them if they were wearing a ful fur suit - infact id be trying to rip the fur off to get to the goodies inside. I guess thats like mixing killing and mating at the same time which should triger about every drug the body can produce so maybe u folks are on to something here.. duno. Also the carton aspect of the whole thing baffles me.. totaly baffles me.

In conclusion - if you enjoy it keep doing it, platonic or otherwise. Doubt ill ever try it, mostly because i dont feel i need to or i want to i guess.

Wow I actually had to read all of this. Pretty interesting first couple of pages. Wish I was in there to discuss as well but hey another conversation another time. It's interesting the number of people that appear to defend or flame the "weirder topics". Oh well.

I had to go ahead and check the "am one" button. Not to the extent of some but enough to call myself one I believe. But then it always depend on the definition I happened to find a nice one to.

Making a thread like this one is like saying "please flame now".

To qoute from above: "Furries are fetishists, and people would be absolutely fine with that if they would just stop bitching about being mainstream and just as normal as everything else."

That is very true.

Some years ago, I came in contact for the first time with their art and to be fair: ignoring what I just had to see (mostly gay M/M art :[ ) many were drawn very skillfully and some single female or straight pictures can be very hot. Please, dont start now like "DUUUDE, dont tell me you would like to fuck a vixen duuude ?!". Think about it: This is equally as "fantasy" as your underaged, schooluniform upskirt, oversized breat, please "dont" rape me, anime girl poster. Or your WoW Nightelve-Huntress wallpaper... So cease fire ;)

I think MANY people have a fetish. Some just might be more "extravagant" then "basic" stuff like leather, high heels, uniforms or asses. But I think it is very, very wrong to be proud of having your own one, making yours better or worse then others. Profiling yourself above the "normals" and drawing lines to decide what is right and what is not. Having an opinion is fine, but it should stay yours.

Furries brought themselves into the spotlight and are now under fire as every other "group" would have got if it tried or wanted to.

Because furry people doesn't fit my aesthetics for either entertainment or outright beauty. I mean, starfox was cool. Then they added Crystal, and I was all WTF!!! Man that's one ugly she-fox.

I like non-furrie anthro stuff. Like Dragon-born. General humanoid form. Dragon features. None of this trying to blend a fox's face with a humans. It just doesn't work. It's... an aesthetic nightmare. Like your avy. blech. sorry man, but.... >.>

I suppose it is inevitable that someone like me would make this topic, or someone already had, but I figured may as well. What is your opinion on the furry fandom?

Let me state that if you hate the fandom I don't blame you because frankly, despite and indeed sometimes because I am one,
then we are the same xD I really cant stand fandom though I am a Valve Fanboy as well as an Otaku!

I've been trolling the furry hideout Fur Affinity for a while and have had an account banned from Deviant Art for my anti-furry fanart. I smiled proudly when an anthro compared me to Hitler.

I don't mind seeing sexualised anthropomorphic depictions when they're just ears, tails and maybe two paws. (Maybe whiskers on a bunny.) But when it extends beyond that, I would prefer those freaks (I can't call them people since some of them go as far as to claim they were born human by mistake.) keep it inside their own hard drives and behind closed doors. Unfortunately they don't and instead plaster their crude drawings (rarely can you call it art.) on every corner of the internet, and parade en force in any convention.

My childhood has been violated so many times by Rule 34 and these...creatures.

Five months ago, I had the last straw. I work as a teacher's assistant for a first grade class. I helped a group of students search for some clipart of popular characters. The first search I made on Google with moderate Safe Search on returned results of mouse-sized Gadget from the Rescue Rangers engaging in urethral fornication with a full sized man. I hit back as quickly as possible but it was too late, the image was seared in our minds and questions arose. To shock and even traumatize me is one thing. But my students? The ones who hopefully don't even know what sex between humans is? The ones who only with their parent's permission learn "family education," in four years? No. No. No.

The old adage used in Soundbytes in every election rang in my head. Think of the children. I declared open season upon them.

Meh, finding spiritual meaning in nature or desiring to have the abilities of animals is totally different from furries. It's hard to explain the difference between werewolves and things like that from furries, but it is there and it is an amazingly fundamental difference.

Pretty much this.

HOWEVER:

In the pantheon of terrible people on the interwebs:

Pedophiles < Furries < Necrophiliacs < People who talk about babby < Nazis < everyone else
o_o Dude don't you think that's a little extreme? I wouldn't even put Twilight fans in that spot.
I think its a fitting place, I mean look at you, you fit the stereotype verbatim. One of the first things you did on this forum was draw attention to the fact you were a furry with this thread, not to mention your avatar.

Atleast someone in this thread makes sense....

I hate all that furry crap that has anything to do with the fetishistic side of it, "yiffing", animal porn and bestiality piss me off. Especially the pricks that play the victim and pass that shit off as a lifestyle, animal fucking is not a lifestyle.

That being said, I don't mind the ones like the OP, just do what you want and leave me alone

Normally I would have just told you that when you don't know, use Google. However I won't you will be blinded. My usual backup attempt would have been to Google it for you, but I would not recommend it.

So here is the best description:

Somehow, all I could think of, in all of my experiences with furries, is this video. Not spam, NSFW (ONLY for "language"), and not furry stuff (It's Penn Jilette -_-).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtgdP-A3a5k

Anyways...the thing is, people keep bringing it up when you don't ask. Oh, you have a tail. Or you have cat ears. Good for you. Ornaments, decorations, etc, dress up how you like. I don't really care, if you're cool, you're cool. If not...well it's not because I hate furries. People get so indignified about the strangest things, when most likely the reason is because of something much simpler. But meh, I suppose martyrdom has always been "in fashion" (if I get flamed for that, I don't really care). No matter how you identify yourself.

Holy shit! 30% of Escapsists are pro-furry. That's disturbing.
The people who found it interesting may only be perplexed. Hopefully.

But that 10.7% who classify themselves as furries are the ones we should worry about. They shall surely be our downfall, for as Rule 33 states, "furries ruin everything".

People differ so much in how they act. Just as racism you can't judge a few members of a group and think that everyone is like that. It is easy yes but it is not right.
Take this person Buccura. He seems to be a calm and balanced person from what I have read. Not like some of them you see. Dressed in fursuits, walking around being all wierd.

No, the image that comes to mind is a fox-like creature ramming Mewtwo in the ass.
That. is. Twisted.
No. Stubling on a picture of all the Sonic characters having an orgy is twisted.

That's an easy way to sum my reaction after seeing that.

I have sort of a fine line of what I'm willing to except with them. I'm interested, yet I find them pretty wierd.

LOL...LOL...Ok, Ok, I am better now. Hey, what ever floats your boat man. As long as you are not hurting anyone else or forcing your hobby on unwilling participants, then who the hell am I to judge. By the way, CSI:Las Vegas has a great episode based on the furry culture. Definitely worth checking out.
