I'm starting to see that as time goes on, game manuals are becoming a lot shorter. The ultima game manuals were the size of a textbook, but the one for BLOPS is 10 pages long and Assassin's creed brotherhood is only a diagram for multiplayer. So do you care about game manuals and are you worried about their size shrinkage.

I'm not too bothered about them.

I mean, I do like to flick through them on the journey back from the shop, or while I'm waiting for the game to install, but I'm not going to be too put out if they're too short or whatever.

I like them.
I have a thing for the artwork and lore they usually slip into them.
It's like a mini-Collector's Edition for me. I love artbooks. I think they're fantastic.
And any concept art I can get (especially without spending more money) is okay in my book.

EDIT: I do tend to read them for content as well. But that's usually a quick skim, only stopping to read something that's special to the game (like Fable III's sex section, even though I have the first two games it's good to see if there are any changes and if it's still just as fun).

I don't care how long they are, just as long as they have that new game smell about them.
As long as they smell nice, I don't mind at all.

Most people dont read manuals and most games are including instructions in the game, or better yet, in the gameplay. Oh and if you lose the game manual it can affect trade in value. Or at least it used to, not sure about now.

I say scrap manuals altogether and save some trees, put the extra money towards the game. Tutorials and internet have made manuals and even strategy guides obsolete anyway.

I love reading game manuals! Except when they are really, really boring. :(

I wish Left 4 Dead had a manual. All that came in the box was a little card with the controls on it.. ;~;

My option isn't there :(
I nearly always read the manual first unless It's a generic or simple action game RPG manuals I always read either for information on game mechanics or for info about the characters/back story, much the same with RTS's and occasionally fighting games but with most shooters I just skip the manual,
The exceptions being If the manual is thick(may have plot or weapon descriptions), the setting is unusual, interesting or unique

They need to sell new game smell as air fresheners. My Dragon Age: Origins and Fable III still smell like that (as the one has a metal case and the other is tucked away inside a fake book). xD

Hell I'd buy it, though I may slip away in to the ecstasy of a brand new game and never return.
Now I understand why they don't sell it. No one would ever buy new again. xD

I used to love game manuals when I'd buy a new game. Some games had really creative ones with interesting artwork, or written like a story book. I remember the KOTOR manual was a small spiral notebook that looked like a journal you would actually use while traveling around in space or something. When I was smaller it was always nice to have a game manual to look at in the car after I had just gotten a new game but couldn't play it right away.

Nowadays all they give you is the safety information, button configuration and credits... if you're lucky.

I only read them during long loading screens/big updates that take forever to download.

Really? I've seen a few familiar faces around I think...

Have I missed much?

Well, Pimppeter2 left, furburt get in a fight with mods and vanished to do his own thing, hubilub self banned himself, lord cuthburton sticks to just user groups now, and demented teddy was banned for being somewhat douchy to some people >.<

Oh, and an advice forum was added. I would recommend you to stay away >.<

Also, now there is allot less wiggle room considering piracy and stuff like that, you can get
banned pretty quickly for saying you do it or something like that.
Huh, so most of the big posters are gone...
Well then, I guess being back will be interesting. :p

And I already hate the sound of that advice forum.
