Some gamers enjoy experiencing classic games remade with modern flair and some people think remakes are just a rationalization for rehashing the same old games. What do you think?

I like some remakes, just because graphics from 8 years ago are just so painful to transition to after playing on the current consoles. For Example, the heartgold soulsilver remakes were nice. Also, if FFX wasn't such a brilliant example of awesome graphics (for the PS2), I'd want a remake: as it is, the graphics step-up from PS2 to PS3 wouldn't be worth a whole new game ... though admittedly, if they did a 'zelda' and changed the plot but kept the core characters or something, and maybe had an option which was like "Game style: [Real Time] / [Turn-Based], so that we could play using anima and stuff in a more 'Kingdom Hearts' style, that would be fantastic.

I am for some remakes like FF I and Star Ocean, but against if they are remade way too early.

Remakes are fun, but where it fails, and what most developers seem to not understand is that you need to have something to show for all the years they spent not making the game.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a prime example of how not to do a remake. It's been years since the first Fire Emblem came out, but instead of improving on it, or at least adding what improvements they added in the other games since the first one hit store shelves they literally only "improved" the graphics- as if simply cutting it into 3d and removing the well liked, stylized 2d sprite animations that'd been previously used is an improvement.

Really in the 10+ years they've basically said, "Yeah. We got nothin' here."

Where's the option for "depends on the execution"?

What if the remade game comes packaged with new content like the Escape from Butcher Bay remake? Does the new content justify a re-release or is too early too early?

That option exists within the discussion. If one were to put an option like that in the poll, there would be no point. The purpose of this poll was to generate discussion by forcing the participants to make a choice and explain why. It is understood that the quality of a remake depends on its execution, just like any other game release; but, if you feel the need to point it out, by all means feel free to do so.

Im still pissed i bought that fire emblem game for $30 it wasn't even worth $10.

I love the final fantasy 6 remake for advance though i wish they had remade it for a console with up to date graphics like the ones on the PS1 versions cutscenes.

I prefer original ideas.

Remakes are like sequels. They're safe bets based on a pre-established fanbase.

If the game is less than 10, don't do it, just release it as an expansion or online or completely separate.

Remakes work if actual effort is put into them. If they are rushed to the shelves, you won't get your money's worth.

A good remake keeps the best things of the original, improves them subtly and interests new and interesting ideas.

If a remake is developed and produced with the budget and focus that an original is, it will be worth playing (as long as its not a remake of something that was dreadful in the first place).

But remakes aren't worth making until at least 10 years after the original, possibly longer.

No, not at all. If Nintendo remand OoT, besides the master quest thing, I wouldn't be happy. Old games are just that, old. Old isn't bad ether. OoT was good yes but I don't want to see games I love being twisted and made "new." Something about it just is wrong in my mind.

depends, i would love to see a ff6 remake with 3D updated graphics for ps3, while some games that are for ps2/xbox i could care less for a remake for, its gotta be around 2001ish and below to qualify for a remake in my eyes, unless its executed amazingly.

Depends on the game, really. Some old-favorites I'd love to play if they did nothing to change the gameplay, the dialogue, or anything of like that. Only change the graphics, remove some bugs perhaps, maybe add in some neat cutscenes, and stuff like that...yeah, I've got a list of games I'd love to have remade. :3

I'd like to see a remake of Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, keep everything the same gameplay wise just update the graphics to current standards. I actually loved how it was possible to get nailed with a 9mm once and die. There was alot less BS envolved with that game, you were either good or crap. None of the bunnyhopping crap or anything else of the run and knife culture. It was just a great game.

Remakes can be okay when they're done at the right time -- two+ generations, imo. Some of the good games are nice to play again, and it gives the young'uns a chance to play the old greats.

I really liked the Resident Evil REmake for gamecube, that was remaking done right. But mostly I don't think it should be done.

Most of the best remakes are fan ones anyway and they usually have to slip under the radar otherwise the big companies jump up and down on them. Fortunatly loads of really good remakes from the Spectrum/C64 era are out there. Atic Atak for instance. Oh and the Wizzball remake was awesome.

So many Fors...
I vote against. Leave them be, they're perfectly fine as they are. The Enix remake of FFIII made me feel like throwing my DS at the wall. I've heard there may be an Enix remake of FFVII soon too. If that happens, Keiji Honda and Yasuhiro Fukushima will find their lives will be made very miserable. *makes a sinister face*

Although I wouldn't mind if Squaresoft remade the pixelly Final Fantasies and changed nothing but the graphics, to make them more bearable. But unfortunately, Squaresoft doesn't exist anymore ._.

The thing about them is that they're designed to bring the games to the attention of younger people. The games I cared about, I played the first time around so I don't care really. I wouldn't buy a remake of a game unless it was Psycho Soldier.
