Even though I love old games, I have nothing against remakes. Video games age very quickly. It's better to try to bring an old game back to speed than to let it be forgotten. Although nowadays all the consoles usually have plenty of nice old games for sale on their online network doodads.

The problem is that in this day and age a remake is usually made for a quick buck on the heels of a loved game rather than a real interest to reintroduce it. But I have nothing against remakes as a whole.

I love the Monkey Island special editions, even if they are just a facelift... But those are like 20 years old now, so it's okay =)

It depends on what game we're talking about. I wouldn't mind a remake of something like the original Castlevania since that's a more-than-20-year-old game (if the asking price was reasonable). However, I don't get why people want Shadow of the Colossus in HD. Seriously! That game came out less than six years ago! You can't afford a used PS2 (that come with a controller), a memory card, and the game? You just HAVE to have it on a next-gen console? I will never understand some people...

I wish there was an in-between option.

Some turn out okay, and then there's stuff like Earthworm Jim HD (or whatever the remake is called). They can do it right in rare cases, but they don't do it often enough for me to be confident in them doing it.

As long as the remake is more of an update, but stays close to the original, I'm okay with them making more games that way.

depends on how you do it, I liked how they did Chrono Trigger, I haven't ever been able to find a copy of it since I borrowed it from a friend why back on the SNES, but games like mario I'm not so thrilled with, mostly because they are all mostly the same anyway and come out every year.

It creates a new generation that likes the same stuff you did.

Edit: and sometimes it adds a new level or 2.

I was looking forward to Goldeneye Source, but it seems they were only making the multiplayer.. and it's either really ridiculous to kill them or you play License to Kill mode. Still, proximity mines kick ass.

I like game remakes as long as we still get a lot of quality new titles. I feel the same way about making a sequel versus a new IP.

I agree with what most have said about it needing some sort of update/improvement. It depends on the medium of distribution as well. For many games, such as Call of Duty Classic or Final Fantasy 7, a remake that is put on one of the Digital Distribution services is good. That lets people play them on current generation systems and may (or may not) have some improvements.
