If I ever got a tattoo (which I'm not) I would get a design based on a game. So yes, it is a good idea.

Thats what I would say, personally.
Just because it comes from a videogame doesen't make it any less credible. Atleast I choose to get a tattoo with meaning, rather than going around with something that lacks meaning and just "Looks cool" (Which I see nothing wrong with, I just prefer my body art be deep and philosophical.)
i think it's brilliant.
and i agree, just because it's from a game doesn't make it less meaningful.
Why thank you :D

If I were ever getting a tatoo, that Okami one would be it. Unfortunately, there are several factors which mean I will never get one. The first is that it's a bit...permanent for my tastes. Second, and more complex, you cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetery if you have a tattoo. This would not concern me too much, but A)I don't know who my future spouse will be ands how she would react and B)one side of my fairly is very religious. They're getting better, but around 20 years ago they would not go to my Uncle's wedding because he was marrying a gentile (there were other factors, some of which are actually legitimate, but that has been described as the main one). As I said, they've gotten better about it, but I'd rather not risk widening the schism in my family.

Also - Thought I'd add this as an example of how not to go about a game tattoo.

<img src="http://i32.tinypic.com/2ns410p.jpg" width=200>
Zelda back? tatt.
Notice the lack of any defining style, even the ink work itself is amateur in some parts.
Bad concept. Bad design. Bad shading. Bland result.
This is something I can foresee the owner regretting in a decade or so (if not, sooner).
That tattoo looks bad.

I'm not expert on tattoos, but I would imagine that having a permanent tattoo where an adult man's groin is obscured by a child's head is a bad idea, especially when the child appears to be blowing or sucking on something.

I know it's from Zelda, and they're both Link, and young Link is facing away... but to a casual observer the imagery is just wrong.

Yes, that tattoo is badong.
Bad wrong. Badong. however i stand for the forces of goonobad.

I agree 100%. I'm one of those "Games are art" people, but there's a lot of thought that goes into most games, a lot of work to craft a compelling story. Not ALL games, I know - sometimes you're just moving blocks down a screen (Tetris) but there's usually _something_ to it. Just because it's popular culture doesn't mean it doesn't have any meaning.

getting something from a game is probably not a good idea
sure you will like it now
but what if you don't later?
I fail to see how I could grow to dislike a symbol of gaming that I've literally grown up with for 20 years, if I took your advice to heart I'd probably never EVER end up getting any sort of tattoo for fear of regret :(

im planning my own tattoos (im 17 and my dad won't let me get one... im getting 4 once i turn 18)
one isn't super origonal( sorry spelling)
is the symbol for love in japanese. starting on the botom of my colorbone and going down my cleavage.(im pround to say that i HAVE cleavage)
two, i am part naitve- canadian and am getting an eagle feather tattooed starting behide my ear curling and going down my neck.
three, i am getting a cartoonish electric guitar (i play :D i also designed it!!!!) getting tattooed on my hip.
and finally four, i am getting Plus que ma propre vie tattooed onto my lower back (i know if i get it there i can't have meds if i deside to have a kid, but i don't want kids, so its ok)
and btw whoever can translate without using a translator, can have a cookie :)
Oh and would you be able to maybe share some pics of your designs? I love tatt designs! I drool over tattoo art books and the likes :)
The placing of the love one sounds hardcore, you realise that's like the most painful place to get a tatt? You can feel the needle rattling your ribcage :D

p.s *hi-5 for guitar* What type of axe do you wield? I've got a Fernandes Revolver ^_^
i has a fender telecaster :)
i know about the love tat
it will hurt but will be sooo worth it
as soon as i upload i will share

You should get "a man chooses" on your left wrist, and "a slave obeys" on your right...

If going with the chains try to be a bit original, I've seen 2 or 3 other people with just the chains and while keeping to the character's tattoo its a bit bland, when I did mine I had them made to look like they twisted and had the words intertwine with the chains.
These are good ideas. And then, like on your back or something, you should get a tat that says "Would You Kindly...?"

I'm thinking of maybe getting Vault Boy [http://sjuonlinenews.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/vault-boy.jpg] and/or the Brotherhood of Steel [http://fallout.neoseeker.com/w/i/fallout/thumb/b/bd/Brotherhood_of_Steel_Logo.png/280px-Brotherhood_of_Steel_Logo.png] symbol (along with a bunch of other non-gaming related tats)

Fair enough. I suppose that if you were tattooing yourself as a statement that you will not be bound, marking yourself as a symbol of your rebellion, I could understand that, but what sort of man needs ink scarred into his skin to remind him to question authority?

Ahh awesome :) What type of game tatts you going for?
I was a bit pedantic in selection and tried to go for timeless stuff... (not so hard considering Nintendo and I basically grew up together)
i've been thinking about getting an okami tattoo actually, without the weapon. just amaterasu, down my back, probably on the right side.

then i'm getting a side piece that's a tree, to match the side-piece i have on my right side. but it'll have the lyrics from love theme [from metal gear solid 4], but i haven't decided the language.

i also want raiden's sword, as well as some quote. haven't figured that out yet. trying to find something that's not too corny. XP that'll be in the middle / lower back area. not tramp-stamp area though.

tempted to do a zelda tat too, but no real ideas yet. probably won't do it. we'll see.

My friends and I are talking about each of us getting a tattoo on our wrists with one of the triforces on it, one would get wisdom, the other would get power, the other would get courage (undecided which one will get which though...)

or possibly a dead space one on my back, slasher arms (necromorph) on my back...but i probably wouldn't get that ebcause it would suck now that i think about it.
That's a really good idea, maybe you could use challenges from Zelda to decide who gets what? Like whoever can complete a puzzle the fastest will get the wisdom, whoever kills a boss the quickest gets courage etc...
haha I realise that sounds really nerdy but hey.. *is a nerd* :)

p.s yep.. deadspace is something I'd personally advise against unfortunately :|

As a constant reminder that we're all part of the great chain.
One of Andrew Ryan's main beliefs was (Ironically enough, as he was a dictator of sorts) be your own man. If you feel that you must do something one way, then do it. Don't go by what a hierarchie tells you. Think for yourself.
As for him being a Dictator of sorts, if you notice, there are alot of dead people next to bible crates. True, he enforced free belief, as you can choose what you want, but he also wanted to keep religion out of Rapture. It's sort of an evil circle if you will.

Some good ideas there, Can't go wrong with Ammy :)
Who says you need a quote to go along with the sword? Pictures paint a thousand words!

Song lyrics can be excellent if done tastefully. I think a majority of the winning factor lies in your font choice so be ULTRA picky, yeah? :)

yeah, dead space is my favorite game of last year, but most back tattoos suck anyway (just generalizing) and I have been informed that fleshy claws are a turn off (as hard as that is to believe :p)

and I don't think you have to say you're a nerd, if we're talking about getting gaming tattoos, we're nerds without saying, am I right? :p

NERDS FTW

It's really not as bad as I made it sound. It really has gotten better over the past few years (hell, it got a lot better between that wedding and when I was born), to the extent I'm not certain it would even be an issue at this point. I can't go into specifics, but suffice to say they've reconciled and his wife ended up being a massive *****. Still, much as I love my cousins, they're sort of indoctrinated. I'm sure that will break in time and they'll become more like their parents (i.e, religious and free-thinking), but I can't be positive.

I'm going to get the Great Chain from BioShock on my wrist/lower arm whenever I can.
So are you going for irony with that ink? I mean, a man designs his own tattoo, a slave tattoos someone else's art onto his body.
I'm trying to make it as original as possible (Like, as I mentioned above, An arm outstretched over the chain with the chain themselves.)
It's more of an ode to the deep philosophical theme of BioShock and Rapture.
I'm a fan of the game and it's meaning, doesen't mean I lack originality...
And who knows, maybe that won't be my only tattoo.
I very strenously recommend that you at least read Atlas Shrugged first.
I actually picked up a copy a few days ago, and am planning to start reading it (hopefully) within the next few days.

I think you should XD I have a tattoo of the Seal of Samael from Silent Hill cause I'm a nerd. But what's wrong with that? That Ookami one looks awesome, plus that one of the triforce. <3
