The tribal one seems to be oh so common where I live, and the people who get them are just idiots and normally so uncultured it's painful to watch
right? it's like 'oooh i have bulging muscles. that makes me tribal!'
or does their logic not even go that far? and they just 'look cool.'

so lame, so lame. :[

Something like that, they do think it makes them look "'ard". I could understand it if you visited the country they're from and (at the very least) sampled the culture but this defiantly isn't these people

Yeah, it looks more like a Zodiac sign than some specific trademarked character.

If I were to get a game tattoo (not going to happen) I would pick something very niche-market and/or old (Like from my SNES days) or I'd take inspiration from a game. Like copy a game character's tattoo.
This sum it up nicely, well said.
You want something that can stand alone as a piece of artwork, that when all meaning & understanding of the game has been lost, it still looks good.
That's why I picked the Ookami, it looks good and stands alone.

The boo will always be a portion of Mario.

I'm going to get the Great Chain from BioShock on my wrist/lower arm whenever I can.
(Trying to make it as original as possible. My current idea is having a hand outstretched in the backround with the chain themselves.)
Most unique idea I've heard. Gonna add some Little Sister hands on it?

A friend of mine. Apparently it is based on artwork for WoW. There is more on his chest and right leg.

Bit excessive if you ask me.

That tattoo is made of pure win!

OT:
If you're into games, then why not?
As long as it's not a chinese symbol/dolphin/butterfly/tribal or something else that is very common.

Personally I have a Mjølnir, with a 2 dragon heads behind it on my right overarm.
Also I have the text "It's a good day to die" under it.
I'm getting a new one on next monday (YAY!), an egyptian ankh to my right forearm.

As long as the tattoo has a meaning too you, it's all good.

Actually, I'd say posting a ridiculously subjective opinion without backing it up with any coherent sort of explanation rates much higher on the Dumb-ometer.
Someone is feeling valiant today. I'm positively shaking!
Must be this cold weather :)

I'd definitely want to get a tattoo one of these days.

What it would be, I'm still unsure of. I'd like it to have more meaning than 'Oh, it's a cool symbol from a game I liked 20 years ago', but I'd also like to look at it and remember something. Thus, I think if I could work out something that made me remember my two dear dogs, aswell as something else, I'd go for it. If a game could provide that 'something else', I'd choose it, no question.

Right now, I feel I don't have enough life-experience, nor has any game really provided what I search for yet to really get that tattoo that I'll be happy with until my dying breath.
I can see where you're coming from, it's not something to rush into obviously but also, if you're going to spend your life waiting on the perfect design to come into your mind then you'll probably never end up getting inked. You've really gotta push yourself to design one and not wait for the idea to fall into your lap.

What you could do maybe is get some artwork together, some photos of your dogs as well or anything that reminds you of them (maybe their names in a nice font) - take these images//ideas//materials to a tattoo parlour and give them a rough framework to work around. They'll design something based on your criteria and their creativity. Most places will design your tatt for free, even if you choose not to get it inked!

I've got a gamer mommy tattoo. My son's name is Locke Douglas, Locke after the video game character in FF6 and Douglas for Douglas Adams. I'm a gamer chick (and into vintage games), so I wanted a bit of my personality in my tattoo, so I've got the sprite from FF6 and my son's name and birthdate.
Ta-Da, here you go:

Personally, I'm all for gaming tattoos. What you did was awesome! In my opinion.
My first tattoo was a charm bracelet with the charms my favorite video game characters growing up. Sonic, Tails, A Triforce, A FInal Fantasy Logo and etc.
It's discreet, and it doesn't scream to the public.
*befriends* Hooray for other gamer chicks!

Also a bit of a "guide" (and or funny take) for those thinking of tattoo as how the general public sees them:
See, i get away with forearms seeing as i always wear long sleeve shirts.

On topic, Anything that permanent on your body should be thought about long and hard. most games, alot like tattoo trends i suppose, ebb and flow in style. so it's important to pick something that means something to you (while not nessesarily being an essay indended for such shows as miami ink.) If that happens to be a game related thing, then so be it.

I am also reminded of the fellow on here whos devotion to zero punctuation has lead to yahtzee being tattooed on his chest. I think we can all agree where the line has been drawn and what a tiny insignificant spec on the horizon it is to some people...

I'm okay with tattoos from games you've played 10-15 years ago, if you still like them it's really cool. What I would be cautious of are tattoos related to games you've just played and thought where amazing. Wait 5 years with that, then think again. I generally love tattoos by the way.

I have pacman on my foot.
Drunken mistake, but hes there with pride now! :D

Thinking about having 2 ghosts chase him and afew yellow dots in front, its quite small anyway so wouldn't make it much bigger with these additions.
