In most instruction manuals for game (unless the deveoper know that no-one cares), and occasionally whilst playing the game (in loading screens, informative pop-ups, and the like), you'll be warned about certain condition under which you shouldn't play video games. These usually include when you're ill, when you're tired, when you have a headache, and how you should take a 15 minute break for evey hour you play. I saw some whilst flicking through a game manual, and it got me to wondering: How many people actually follow these guidelines? Do YOUUU?

I played games for hours. I played until the throbbing in my eyes and head was just another function ,and soon my body adapted to it.

I've never been hurt by my games. Plus I think those warnings are there for legal reason anyways, just so whenever some dumb epileptic kid plays a game and has a seizure, he can't sue the developers.

Only ones I can remember reading are

MGS4's: "You have been playing for 6 hours, take a break" and "It's 3am, perhaps you should take a break"

Civ 4: "You have been playing x hours time to take a break"

Oh and 1701AD telling me to take a break, no pop up, just a voice saying the bog standard take a break message

I usually take a break whenever I'm feeling stiff, which could be anywhere from 15 minutes if I'm on the floor to 3 hours if I'm in a recliner.

Hell no I don't pay attention to the warnings. As a matter of fact, i normally try to induce an epileptic seizure from playing an abnormal amount Mario Kart.

If I get really sucked in by a game I often forget to stay well-hydrated over the course of the day and, as a result of that AND constantly keeping my brain busy with the game, I tend to get monstrous headaches. Luckily I know my body enough by now to recognize the precursors to such an unpleasant episode and hastily pop a mighty painkiller into my mouth (very effective ones but take about 40 mins to kick in). At that point I usually turn off the console for an hour or two to get my head straight and maybe go out for a walk.

I've seen them before but I don't really listen to them. The only time I take a break is when I'm tired of playing the game or when I rage quit and decide to stop before I completely lose it and throw my controller at my $800 flat screen HDTV.

If I paid attention to the warnings, I'd never play as I'm tired all the time.
So I don't read the warnings.

I don't heed them because I never had any medical issues when I'm playing. Could be that I got a slight headache once after playing 10 hours non-stop on a certain game, but nothing serious.

I find it's my hands that start to go before anything else.... or sometimes the adrenaline will really get pumping and I'll have to calm down... especially in gears multiplayer.

Im not epileptic but I will generally get up and do something after an hour or two of gaming. Even if it's just having a stretch or doing some push ups.

No, I feel fine when I play. If I felt mentally sick, then yes I might. But I'm not... as far as I'm aware of.

The first time MGO gave me a news flash informing me that I had been playing for 3 hours, I was slightly amused. That amusement rapidly turned to annoyance when the message stayed there for about 20 minutes.

Bottom line; most gamers are smart and realize when they need to take a break, but there are the dumb few that require those warnings so they can't sue when something bad comes from them playing a 20 hour session
