As of today, (bewilderingly) the British Columbian Government is handing out a $100 'Environmental Impact Dividend', in cash to every proven BC citizen over 17 not in prison. I'm a bit more overcome of the simplistic generosity of the action than the impact it will actually have. (Or the incredible expense for that matter)
What are your thoughts on generosity and sharing? Personally I like helping out whoever I can because it makes me feel happy inside.

If somebody asks me for money with a good reason I give it to them, but I don't give regularly because I can't be bothered to. Both reflect how much I value money.

I like to think that I'm pretty generous - sometimes I'll just pick up the bill if my friends and I eat out, stuff like that. I'm definitely a big tipper - think about how many people out there give shitty tips or even no tip at all, I feel like I kind of need to make up the difference. I like to give pretty generous gifts for birthdays and stuff like that too, when I can. I'm going to get Rock Band for my dad's combination birthday/father's day gift, and I'm getting Wii Fit for my sister's birthday next month.

I don't like giving things to people I don't like. My friends and family though? They can take whatever they want pretty much.

I never used to be generous, but ever since I got cancer I understand how important it is to be giving, as it is only through the kindness of others that I'm still here.

I'll give money to friends and I won't expect them to pay it back, that's about as generous as I will be, this is due to my mom basically making excuses for 12 years to spend my money, she is convinced that all money I receive for any reason is hers. I will never give money to family, especially because I don't like my family.

I always try to help when I can. If a friend can't afford to go out with the rest of us to dinner and a movie I will pick up their tab. If someone needs a ride I'm always there. I know they would do it for me if I ever needed it so it's never bothered me. We all take care of each other, money is never an issue between us. If I'm standing in line for whatever and someone needs money because they are short a dollar and some change I will usually give it to them. I always stop to open doors for others and always help pick stuff up when someone drops things. Happened a lot in school. lol

And by the way, I try to be chivalrous to women in generosity. Hold them doors open, men! Ladies first!

Edit: 't'

I'm generous in the fact that if somebody cuts me off in traffic, most of the time I won't pull a PIT maneuver sending them screaming head-on into the guardrail. Does that count?

No, as that is not 'generosity', it is 'refraining from actions liable to get oneself beaten with a length of lead piping'

I am not generous. I value money far more than any healthy, or indeed sane person should. That being said, I generally buy my friends lots of drinks when we go out to party.

I'm sure it counts for something in the long run. I'd have to choose something between meh and very sharing. I don't have a whole lot of money so my donations are limited but I'll physically help someone out whether it is holding doors open or helping to move a new couch for the neighbor.

Meh.

I am generous enough with friends and family, but outside my circle, meh.

I don't believe in charity. Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a day. Set a man on fire, keep him warm for the rest of his life.
More like keep him hot for the few remaining minutes of his life.

I am especially amused by the fact you (I assume unintentionally) left the 't' off the end of the sentence, implying for me that you'd left so early you didn't have time to finish your sentence. Ladies first my fo!

No, it's more amusing when its a split second thought process. Loses impact if you have to explain it...

I refrain from generosity unless I'm sure I'll be able to benefit in some way from it later on. Example: I tip well at restaurants I frequent because I fear the staff will eventually find out who's stingy and thus I'll be deprived of my delicious, not-pit-into food. As for the BC thing, I can't help but think it'd be better to use that money to do something that will matter, like help fund a needy school or build a park. If they want to help the environment, use the money as a grant for alternative fuels and the like. What they're doing is just uncreative waste of a surplus.

I'm pretty much a dick other to my firends, family and the ladeez. Well, not a dick as such but I probably won't give to people unless I see a point. But I DO feel for animals and would give to those kinds of things.

So I voted: Hesitant about Giving.

The stimulus package was a horrible idea from the government's point of view. Anyone with any sense will hoard whatever money they're given and not go out and buy products to stimulate the economy. A better use would have been improving infrastructure like oil refineries which we're in desperate need of right now. However, I doubt that would have ever happened with the Bush administration due to the influence of oil companies. The only purpose I can see for this stimulus would be to distract the country while they try to stall for time.

If I can do something nice for someone, I'll do it. I fail to see a good reason not to.

There should be some middle ground between "very sharing" and "meh".
